There's a banana in your drawer

At one point in Shadows of Self, Aradel pulls out a note stuffed into his cigar case that reads "There's a banana in your drawer."  His only comment is that the "woman will be the death of me."  No one else comments on it.  It isn't mentioned again.

I feel like this is a clue somehow, but I can't figure out what it means.  Anyone got any ideas?

"The banana in your drawer" is probably note Wayne left in exchange for some cigars.

Edit: ninja'd by hoidhunter, he's right, I guess.
The whole situation reminds me of Vimes and Sybil from Diskworld - IIRC she kept scheming to ensure he eats properly and he kept counterscheming to get his bacon.

I think it's funny that she's trying to get him to stop smoking...and his immediate response is..."She's going to be the death of me."

by the way...anyone give me a quick reminder on how to do spoiler tags?

Scadrial is an earth equivalent planet meaning it roughly follows earths technology timeline. Era 2 takes place in the 1940s when they didn't know how bad cigars are for you.

As for quoting I tap on the post and it gives me an option to quote I assume you just have to do the same but click for a computer.

Thanks...but I think your timeline is a little off.  Antibiotics, the atomic bomb, color tv, and the microwave oven were all invented in the 1940's.  I don't think Scadrial is there quite yet.  The wild west-ish time that Alloy of Law seems to resemble is probably closer to the begining of the 1900's.

Also...I understand how to quote people...I just forgot how to hide things behind spoiler tags...

That being said...I do understand your point.  Medical knowledge probably hasn't advanced to a point where they have proven conclusively that tobacco is very bad for your health.  However, people have been suggesting that tobacco is bad for your health since the 16 or 1700's...they just didn't have medical evidence to back it up.

Seeing as how it's his wife and not his doctor...I feel it's safe to say that she may be trying to push him into healthier habits.

I think his wife is forcing him to be more health conscious. He opened his cigar case to get a smoke...his cigars were all gone...his wife had left him a note telling him to eat a banana instead...

Ha.  That makes sense.  Because no one really knows Aradel's age, when he was first introduced I assumed he was a kandra or something. Now that I've finished it, I'm not so sure, but I'm probably was seeing "clues" where there aren't any.

Edit: The not mentioning the age thing, if it does turn out to be insignificant, was a delightful red herring.

I hadn't really thought about it much...if I had been paying attention like a good sanderfan should...I may have come to the same conclusion...but considering the events of the story, I think it's safe to say that he is not a kandra.

Maybe there is something else going on though...

Yeah, IIRC the Era 3 books are supposed to be set around the technological equivalent of 1980 while Brandon dropped 1940 as an idea he had for a story he could tell between Eras 2 and 3. Or something like that, I forget the exact quote. Era 2 technology is more late 19th/early 20th century, with the automobile but not yet any form of radio.

Now I'm imagining Aradel being played by Andrew Robinson from his days as Garak on Deep Space Nine in a hypothetical adaptation. "Hidden in my drawer there is a banana. If you don't here from me in two days, I want you to take that banana. And eat it."
