Southpaw89 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 So Bands of Mourning is book 3 of 4? I was under the impression that Wax and Wayne's story was a mere trilogy. Does that mean we should expect good Uncle Edwarn to return for the grand finale, aka The Lost Metal?
Argent he/him Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Originally (but not originally originally) Wax & Wayne was going to be a trilogy, but I don't know how official that was meant to be. I am pretty sure quadrilogy is the final word on the topic though.
The Invested Beard Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Who's to say Edwarn isn't going to show up in BoM? I think it's safe to say he probably will and then from there will carry on into the events of the 4th book.
Pagerunner he/him Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 As he describes here, Brandon originally wrote Alloy as a standalone novel to keep Scadrial from gathering too much dust. After he finished writing it, he plotted out a full trilogy (SoS, BoM, and TLM). But Alloy is supposed to have some foreshadowing for the middle trilogy (1980s analogue), so Edwarn and the Set might be more relevant to the future of the Mistborn series than the present. That being said, I agree that it would be a waste to leave Edwarn out of the next few Mistborn books. His personal connection with Wax adds a great deal of personal conflict to the story, especially since he claims to have Wax's sister. I'm confident that Brandon will find a way to fit him in throughout the remaining Mistborn Era 1.5 books. 1
Blaze1616 he/him Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) I'm confident that Brandon will find a way to fit him in throughout the remaining Mistborn Era 1.5 books. Just to note for consistency, Wax & Wayne is officially Era 2. 1980's tech is then Era 3, and SF tech is Era 4. Edited January 20, 2016 by Blaze1616
Pagerunner he/him Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Are you sure? WoP from a month back indicated 1.5, and that's how Brandon referred to them in the latest State of the Sanderson. 2

Well then maybe I'm wrong. The original reason listed for using the "Eras" system and not the "Trilogy of Trilogies" system was to avoid confusion with middle-series such as Wax & Wayne and a potential Current Tech book(s).

And neither of the naming systems leave room for the 1940-s era story ideas that Brandon used to mention. There's just no winning... 1
WeiryWriter he/him Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Originally when Brandon instituted the Era convention Wax and Wayne was Era 2. In December he decided to change it to Era 1.5 "to be less confusing". Frankly I think it's more confusing now.
AndrewStirlingMacDonald he/him Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I have it on [my own] authority that when the 1940's novel comes out, it's going to officially be "Mistborn era 1.5b"
The Invested Beard Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Followed closely by the 1960's era 1.5lsd. 4
flying_shadow she/her Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I wouldn't complain if that happened.
Michael Portz he/him Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Do we count this thread under the derailed ones now?
The Sovereign Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Do we count this thread under the derailed ones now? Nothing to see here... 1
Blaze1616 he/him Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 And neither of the naming systems leave room for the 1940-s era story ideas that Brandon used to mention. There's just no winning... I disagree. The Eras system automatically shifts numbers, so any additional Eras pushes the later Eras up a number (so if 1940's became Era 3, then SF would become Era 5). The Trilogy of Trilogies system didn't allow for that, as you had the three trilogies already announced (tFE, 1980's tech, SF), and so additions such as Wax & Wayne suddenly require a sentence to a paragraph to describe.
