The problem is that without being able to use either the Reckoners or Epic tech for fear of breaking canon there's a limited amount of plausible vanillas to play as.

Our Vanillas thus far have mostly either been the in charge of a city or protected by other Epics.

I think the world in our game easily allows for other vanilla characters. We could do more with the Black Fist in Portland, or even focus on a group of vanillas within one of the different territories and what they go through trying to survive. The life of a Thoughttown guard could be a fascinating story. We could hear from the rank-and-file vanillas trying to survive Lucentia's brutal regime, or Salem residents and how the arena messes with their lives, or Corvallis residents who find themselves caught between a brewing rebellion and an angry dictator. Their stories might not be as flashy as those of Epic characters, but they're every bit as interesting.

This world is a lie. I know. I live in a destroyed world. The Faeries call to me. I will quench the light. The night will rise again.

I am the Soulkeeper. The Faeries flock to me.

I am coming.

So. This is the beginning of my audition to Astoria, 'cause Soulkeeper is a powerhouse. Okay.....

Where to?

Soulkeeper is an Epic. A powerful one. She believes that Epics are Faeries and she is the queen of them. Wacko.

Her power is very simple. She takes powers from dead Epics. (Can someone confirm if that is possible. Thanks!)

She kills Epics and steals their powers.

Powers:

- Flight up to 200 MPH

- Animal controlling in a 200 meter radius

- Not affected by extreme cold or heat

- Does not need to breathe

- Enhanced intelligence

- Capable of firing laser blasts with a range of 400 meters

- Limited pyrokinesis

- Able to look into others memories

- Superhuman durability

Okay. I know it is kinda OP, but that is why she belongs in Astoria. She will be there to kill Epics and collect their powers.

Boring Info:

She wears normal clothes, and is tall, with deep black hair and piercing green eyes. Her original name was Amanda Walter. She is a fan of drinking blood.

Thats it.

Comments? Questions? Screams of Terror?

Yeah, I'm kind of with Voidus that her basic powers aren't really enough to keep her alive once people start targeting her, plus the whole question if that would even be possible.

Since Epics cannot use Epic power items, i don't think stealing Epic powers would work.

To be honest, I'm not sure about all these new Epics. People are making up new Epics when they either don't even have one in the game. Or they do, and they aren't maintaining them in favour of bringing in new ones.

Can we please stick to fewer Epics guys? I know the draw of having a bunch and using every cool idea you think of, but in the best interests of the game, can we stick to one to begin with, for new players? If you overload yourself, the game will just be dragged down.

I'm seconding this.

Also an important point to bring up. A option that may be a kind of inbetween for some people is a vanilla either in the Vapor Snake unit or in the Voidbringer one.

and my hunter!(who has been nerfed to the point of near obscurity, but is still awesome as a sort of batmanny character)

I also think it would be kind of cool to see some vanillas who have worse mental problems than epics. a sort of: torture-you-all-for-fun kinda guy. (that sounded creepy...)

so I want to officially announce my goal of creating (the first?) vanilla to be placed on the ATTD list.

a very interesting idea. Perhaps a high-ranking vanilla servant for an Epic? An enforcer of sorts, for occasions that do not deserve an Epic. We know from Steelheart that vanillas had a place of importance in Newcago, not just as managers and accountants, but as gangsters, gangleaders and vicious mobsters.

In a more civilized city like Corvallis for instance, the Queens could have a use for a bloodthirsty psychopath in the Security department who will do bad things to keep rebels in line that lazy Epics can't be bothered to.

And Portland is so chaotic people could do what they like and no-one could stop them.

Okay,  thanks for the comments. I'm slightly confused. Should players stop making new Epics?

I don't think people should stop making new Epics, we just need more people to start making new vanillas.

Mostly, although people not essentially spamming every Epic idea they have, even though they already have characters that they are doing fairly little with is also a part of it.

Actually, Anamaximder, now that you're actually here, aren't you still up in Salem with Countdown?

Personally, I think people should only make new Epics if they are managing their current Epics well. No point someone making a third Epic, until they know they can handle two.

Looks like I'm a perfect new player with one Epic and one Vanilla ^^ especially with Summer being more active than Argon :)

It is the term most of us have started using for normal people without powers.

whats the history behind that? what conversation lead to that?

Edge's first Nighthound post had him referring to non-powered characters he was abusing as "vanillas," and the term caught on.

I'm pretty sure Jo was using the term before me. I just liked it. :P

ah. thats funny.

on  different note can I have the Hunter in Portland?

Portland is still generally open to non Epic characters. So what did you have in mind for his current incarnation?

Vanilla characters can certainly be interesting, my concern is more about their involvement with the plot, without some kind of protection most interesting Vanilla characters would be murdered pretty quickly.

A vanilla character flying under the radar, though, could be protected by anonymity. David survived Steelheart's regime by remaining unnoticed, so it's not inconceivable that a vanilla in Oregon could go about their business, working for whichever Epic happened to be in charge, while quietly plotting rebellion or escape or just trying to survive.

Right, they just shouldn't go shooting anyone important in the face at random.

Although, getting some old characters adopted also wouldn't be bad.

They could but then most of their viewpoints are just internal monologue, given how long game days have been the times that they'd actually be away and able to plot would be pretty far apart.

But I suppose if enough people made Vanilla characters it could work, guards could talk to each other when not around Epics, servants could spit in Epics tea while they're unobserved and gossip, etc.
