What instrument do you (want to) play?

So, I just recently picked up a new instrument and it made me think, what instruments do you all play? And if none, what would you like to play? And if you wouldn't like to play anything, well I don't know why you clicked this thread. :D

I just picked up an Oud. For those that don't know what an Oud is, here: Oud. For those that don't want to click the link, it's essentially a Middle-Eastern lute. So, I haven't really learned anything on it yet as most of the online tutorials I find are in Arabic, which I don't understand at all. I am currently trying to learn to read music so I can learn in that way. Most likely, after I get a basic knowledge of the instrument, I will just play songs I make up.

So yeah, I want to know what you guys play/want to play/like to see others play/anything.

Readysetdiscuss!

Very nice! I almost bought a violin instead of an oud, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to learn the oud. The hammer dulcimer seems like it would be super sweet to know how to play. You should do it.

I'm a doublebassist by "trade". Not terribly good, but then I don't practice, or play other than rarely at the uni music society orchestra. I'd love to be able to play well, on the bass or any other instruments. Music is awesome! <3

I play the piano, and I also own a violin. I'd like to learn to play the hammer dulcimer, I foun some videos of people playing it on youtube and I really like the sound of it.

there's a regular at my local rennissance fair who plays the hammered dulcimer, and he's an expert at it. It's actually his full time job, and he travels internationally doing it (he's in italy at the moment, just got there from greece)

Hammered dulcimers are awesome.

I don't play any instrument, because i don't have a whole lot of manual dexterity, and i'm not very good at carrying a tune, but i would love to play several instruments, like piano, guitar, or really any stringed instrument.

Neither do I, my motor control is lacking. doesnt stop me. it's something you can 'get' through practice, I guess.

I don't play any instuments but I wish I could play the piano. I think I am going to take lessons over the summer but I wish I could just play it really well cause it sounds so cool. Or I would want to play the pipe organ because it looks and sounds so cool and stuff.

Clarinet and voice. Yes, voice is considered an instrument. I used to be an excellent clarinetist for my age, but I haven't played in several years, so I doubt I'm that good anymore.

Now you must learn to play them both at the same time. Not alternatively, but both at the exact same time. The challenge is set and the game is on! angry.gif

Endra thought of me!

Voice is not only an instrument, it is the BEST instrument. No, I'm not biased because I took three years of choir in high school. Who's asking?

I dabble in piano as well. As in there is exactly one tiny thing I can play well, with one hand. I pick out notes, but it takes me forever. I could probably learn if I just sat down and DID IT, but I haven't yet.

To prove that voice is an awesome instrument:

and
. I would also recommend perusing their channels for additional awesome in a similar vein. I especially like Temptation Eyes and It's All Rock and Roll to Me from the first channel, and Hallelujah and Viva La Vida from the second.

I sing Soprano 1 - bit out of practice though - and can play a decent tune on a piano if you leave me to it long enough. Sight reading is a bit of a challenge for me, though. As for what instrument I WANT to play, I'd love to play guitar. And fiddle - not classical violin (though that would also be awesome), but good old-fashioned celtic fiddle. Maybe one of these days.

well, since people are considering voice as an instrument, i have to contradict my previous post and throw out there that i do sing a bit. I don't think i'm that great, but others tell me i'm pretty good. The choir teacher at my highschool was always hounding me to join choir, but i never did. I acted in the plays, which included musicals, and yes this means that somewhere in this world is a VHS that contains singing and dancing Eero, and no you can't have a copy.

I second the desire to have singing Eero on YouTube. And in the interest of full disclosure, there is footage of me singing onstage on YouTube. I'll tell you that the show was How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, but that's it. Good luck finding it, and better luck trying to pick me out since I was a chorus member, not a major character.

I've been playing bass clarinet since my freshman year of high school and clarinet since fifth grade. I also learned to play trumpet last year and will be learning trombone for marching band next year.

I'd also like to learn piano, beyond me just being able to tap single notes out. It'd be really cool if I could just sit down at a piano and pour out my soul into the music. But alas, I'm too lazy to teach myself. =(

My favorite instrument is the cello. The mellow timbre just really speaks to me. If musical instruments could be familiars, the cello would be mine.

Oooh, a fellow marcher, eh? My parents would never spring for flute lessons, but I got my share of marching in the color guard. Also, I completely agree: the cello is absolutely gorgeous.
