I stayed at work today from 10am to 9:30pm, preparing a website for tommorow presentation. Among many others there was this simple bug to fix. When your input is too long in one form, the site crashes. Something to be fixed in less than 5 minutes. I was sure I fixed that and even checked that it was solved. So now my boss starts her testing and what happens? The site crashes from a too long input. Now I'm tired and look like an incompetent fool :/ I hope this won't be an issue during tommorow presentation...

Was her input significantly longer than inputs you used to test your fix?

Or maybe she used special characters or stuff...

Nah, just normal words.

Anyway this day just got worse. It's just unbelievable. I wanted to eat McDonalds so I check McDonald's app and see that there is one near my home. The journey begins.

Arrival time: 23:03

Card on the restaurant door: Sorry, due to technical difficulties we're closing at 23:00.

That was irritating, but I checked the map and not that far away, there is another McD that should be open.

Arrival time: 23:24

Card on the door: Today we close at 23:20.

Riight, love you too mister McDonald. I decided that I won't give up! There is McDonald's open 24h in center of Warsaw. I go there.

Arrival time: 23:35

Card on the door: Technical break 23:30-00:30.

Now, I'm gonna take a nap in my car in front of the railway station in which this restaurat is located and I WILL HAVE MY BIG MAC! YOU WON'T STOP ME, YOU STUPID CLOWN!!!

I borked up my knee something good last night.  I'm not entirely sure how.  All's I know is that I'm just fine walking, but if I put weight on it while it's bent (i.e. standing up from a chair or going up or down stairs) it hurts and buckles a bit.

yay

Yeah, such fears like being let go after a probationary period are part of the adult experience! The good news is that probationary periods don't usually work like that... It's usually just a precaution in case you never show up.

I remember when I was a contractor... I was always concerned my contact would not be renewed or that I would be summarily dismissed! I'm now employed and am concerned about other things ending my employment. It's a pain! ;)

So should I ask for things I could improve on? I know that in the past, I haven't been half so close to certain ruin as I thought, but still.

I think you should sit back, relax, and re-corral the brain weasels.  If there were problems with your performance, they would tell you.  Setting aside the fact that Twimom is nuts and normal people do not think the way she does, remember that it takes rather a lot of investment on their part to hire and train a new person.  Setting you up to fail the way you fear they might be is both malicious and stupid.

First, follow what Kaymyth said.

Second, just asking for things to improve is the "wrong" way to frame it. You'll want to frame it as you taking the initiative, like "I noticed 'x' the other day and thought 'y' would improve on it. What do you think of 'y'?" In that way, you not only find areas to improve, you show initiative and a willingness to work with others to do stuff in the best way!

Twi, those fears are literally all "this is what Twimom would do". She's not exactly a blueprint for how people think and act. Tis the brain weasels! Stomp! Stomp!

Okay. You're right; if I'd done something worthy of being fired over, they'd just fire me instead of drag it out 'til October. Keeping me on until then makes no sense, if I've really done something that bad.

If I think of something to improve on, then, I'll ask. I can't think of anything in general that needs to be improved; it's just my need to be sure I haven't made some terrible mistake that's compelling me.

I know, I know….it's just really hard to get her out of my head. Like, I thought I'd done it the other day, and I realized that when I cook or get a snack, I still take pains to dirty as few dishes as possible, because if I left any evidence that I'd eaten something at sometime other than mealtime, there was a pretty good chance I'd get a passive aggressive lecture. "You do realize that dinner is in three hours." "Okay, I'll put the crackers back." "Well, I don't want you to think you can't eat, I just want you to know we'll have dinner soon."

I still have to remind myself that I can get a bowl of cereal an hour before I make dinner, if that's what I want to do with my life. -_-

Though on the upside, I haven't eaten fettuccine alfredo in almost two months.

Yup. Some of these weasels are still hiding deep in the subconscious it seems. DIRTY ALL THE PLATES!

Or as one of my friends would say when eating something unhealthy and delicious for a meal: "ok I am making bad life decisions. How sad." (Read last words with heavy sarcasm)

Yay! :D (What's the Alfredo bit of fettuccine Alfredo?)

I buy ingredients and make things she wouldn't like. Like stir fry, two or three times a week. Baby steps.

It's usually someone you don't know, but sometimes that can't be helped.

I don't know anyone named Alfredo….which just heightens the existential horror.

Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with dirtying as few dishes as possible - less cleaning up for you to do, or longer before you have to clean all the things.

These are habits and ways of thinking that have been drilled into you for almost your entire life.  It's going to take some time to work them out of your system and rewrite your brain with healthy thoughts.  Sanity will prevail!

did roll my eyes at a text message exchange with my dad earlier. For context, I got a message over the family group text asking me how I'm doing, I mentioned that one of my coworkers said people seem to like me, and my dad said, "How could they not?!" I don't know, Dad, maybe because of all the flaws you throw in my face whenever you're mad at me?

For the record, I don't think his preferred tactic would work now. When my mom does something similar, it just makes me angry.

Through a group text? Really? What, did he want witnesses in case you eviscerated him?

One of my cats is missing. It's been about a month since she showed up at the house, so... yeah.

So, my grandad had a stroke a few weeks ago, and then developed a chest infection. Things aren't looking good...and when you're halfway across the other side of the globe, you can't really help but feel out of your depth

Polish minister for environment wants UNESCO to remove World Heritage Site status from our Białowieża Forest... why? Because without UNESCO interfering he'll be able to authorize even more deforestation  :( He has already raised the number of trees to be cut dramatically... The Law and Justice party won the elections last year with slogan "for better change" and since then, they're doing their best to ruin Poland, destroy our relations with UE and USA, they're trying to control the courts and as we can see, they won't even let our most famous forest in peace :( And people voted for them, because they promised 100€ for every child (every month)... and that will ruin our budget even more...

I'm sorry. :( Sometimes just a call can help. I know you're probably already doing that, but it's more helpful than it feels sometimes.

Ugh, politics troubles. Believe me, we in the USA know how you feel. <_<

Well, Bruce has fleas. <_<

The vet said it's a mild case, fortunately, but it still meant I walked out having paid more money than I'd wanted to, including the meds for an ear infection. And I now have some scary words about heart worms ringing in my ear (along with an absolutely terrifying picture, thank you for that, Mr. Vet) along with the knowledge that if Bruce is infected, it won't even show up on a test for a few more months. I'm going to get him on preventative care as soon as I can, but the thought of heart worms is kind of existentially terrifying. On top of switching phone plans and groceries this week, I'm just done spending money, and I'm getting a stress headache.

On the upside, I had a profound realization: I don't live with Twimom anymore, and am thus under no obligation to come clean about the fleas, which would result in a long lecture about everything I've done wrong with Bruce. Hello, lying.

Isn't getting rid of fleas as simple as spraying your dog with something? It works for cats that way... and why did your vet suspect heart worms? Are there any symptoms to suggest heart infection? :(
