Landis963 he/him Posted December 9, 2015 Author Posted December 9, 2015 Or both. Either one would be a major distraction for someone in Harmony's position.
Plaeggs he/him Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 No, no no. Spoilers It falls right on top of both Wax and Steris, who are the only ones to die. The story follows Wayne's quest to exorcise Wax's cognitive shadow from Marsh's body before he can absorve The Lord Ruler's powers and take over the Set to build new bodies for him and his bride using Hemalurgy. I have no words. Well, technically, this response counts as "words," but...What?
Jess Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Unfortunately, as they walked the remaining distance around the rotunda, his discomfort increased. He felt nauseous. Sweaty. Sick, like the feeling he had gotten the few times he had been forced to run from a killer and leave innocents in danger. Does anybody else think this sounds suspiciously like emotional allomancy? 1
Moogle Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I imagine Harmony is busy either investigating that new God Metal or Marsh is back from South Side and he has brought interesting news. Harmony's got a brain the size of a planet... surely he can hold a conversation or two with the kandra (and tell them what he's doing?) AND investigate a god metal? Thinking more on it... huh, I guess if he's trying to view other planets then maybe it does take all his concentration.
DreamEternal Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) Harmony's got a brain the size of a planet... surely he can hold a conversation or two with the kandra (and tell them what he's doing?) AND investigate a god metal?Stormlight 11 spoilers: All major shardworlds are giant supercomputers designed to find the true name of the God Beyond. More seriously, even with greater cognitive capacities shards seem uncapable of focusing on many different places at once or perceiving things they are not actively looking for. EDIT: Also, I think Steris may have planned for the ceilling suddenly collapsing, and very few people will die. Or it was the one thing she didn't plan for, but honestly, it would be good if the book didn't open with everyone in the party dying. Edited December 9, 2015 by CognitivePulsePattern 3
Zea mays Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Does anybody else think this sounds suspiciously like emotional allomancy? Ayup. My first thought too. Who would desire to break up the marriage though? Silly Wax, to not wear a tin-foil lined hat on his wedding day...
DSC01 he/him Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Maybe Marsh is just messing with him, in retaliation for not listening to the kandra. It certainly doesn't seem like terribly subtle emotional allomancy, after all... I'm not totally serious. But, you know, maybe something like that.
GoddessIMHO Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 A subtle touch that points to the problem with the current class system:Both Wax and Steris treat the valet, Drewton, like an appliance. He exists to dress Wax and disapear. They talk like he doesn't exist. It took me second look to realize the "ash girls" were flower girls. 1
StormingTexan he/him Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 ^ Took me a while to figure that out to. I was like what the heck is an ash girl. I have a love/hate feeling about these teaser chapters. Especially one that ends like that. What the heck is Sazed busy with!
DSC01 he/him Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 He's trying to find the other Shard(s), I'd wager, since he just found clear evidence of a Shard from outside Scadrial messing with his world.
Delightful Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 When Wax looks to the side and realises Steris isn't Lessie......ouch. And did we know he was married to Lessie before? 1
Kaymyth she/her Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) When Wax looks to the side and realises Steris isn't Lessie......ouch. And did we know he was married to Lessie before? Not officially. One of the earlier drafts of the SoS sample chapters that were up way back when actually has him thinking of her as his wife, but it's edited out in the published version. (I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) Edited December 13, 2015 by Kaymyth
Iarwainiel I she/her Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I don't think that Saze can worldhop without messing with Scadrial's Investiture. He's probably got kandra out doing it for him. I imagine he is freaking right the frell out about that new godmetal. Heh-heh. I caught that "Farscape" reference, Kaymuth. Such a useful term, is it not?
Kaymyth she/her Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Heh-heh. I caught that "Farscape" reference, Kaymuth. Such a useful term, is it not? It is! The sort of thing that I can let slip out in mixed company without parents getting mad at me for damaging their poor children's innocence.
DSC01 he/him Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) Tor's got the second chapter up! That last line! Man. I can't wait for this book! EDIT: Oh. Apparently, there's a while other thread for that. I wondered why no one had said anything about it yet. Edited December 14, 2015 by DSC01
