The Bands Of Mourning preview chapter (SPOILERS)

The first chapter of The Bands of Mourning has been released on Tor.com, and I didn't see a thread for it yet.  Shame on you all (:P

It's Wax and Steris' wedding.  And sure enough, someone causes an almost-lethal disturbance. Someone should check Steris for atium spikes.

Well they were trying to plan for those anyway.

EDIT: Back. Nice to hear the name Larsta again.

Sazed apparently busy with something important and hasn't told the kandra what yet. Interesting.

“Not going to leave as I change?” Wax asked, amused.

“We’re to be married in less than an hour, Lord Waxillium,” she said. “I think I can stand to see you bare-chested. As a side note, you’re the Pathian. Prudishness is part of your belief system, not mine. I’ve read of Kelsier. From what I’ve studied, I doubt he’d care if—”

Wax undid the wooden buttons on his trousers. Steris blushed, before turning around and finally putting her back to him. She continued speaking a moment later, sounding flustered. “Well, at least you agreed to a proper ceremony.”

This. Oh, man, I shouldn't read this stuff at work, Brandon is far too good at making me laugh.

Also, this:

Wax did up his buttons and Drewton took his shirt off the hanger nearby. Steris turned around immediately upon hearing the sound, arms still folded, and didn’t miss a beat—refusing to acknowledge that she’d been embarrassed. “I’m glad I had copies made.”

“You made copies of our wedding pendants?”

“Yes.” She chewed her lip a moment. “Six sets.”

“Six?”

“The other four didn’t arrive in time.”

Also also this:

Wax grinned, doing up the buttons on his shirt, then letting his valet handle the cuffs. “You’re one of a kind, Steris.”

“Technically, so is Wayne—and actually so was Ruin, for that matter. If you consider it, that’s not much of a compliment.”

Really, anything with Steris.

The ash girls are another really cool - and a bit weird - addition.

Excuse me?  Bowties are cool, you idiot.

In Wax's defense, he probably doesn't know that Doctor Who is Cosmere.

(It is Cosmere, right?  Because I am totally sold on the "Adonalsium is a Time Lord artifact" theory.)

I thought he had a little bit, that's why she asked if he needed a moment or if he wanted to call it off.

Well, he probably at least had to say the "I killed my wife" bit again because everyone can tell he was visibly upset. That Harmony himself had him put on the job that lead to that is a different matter.

No prologue this time? Or is it just not shown in the preview?

Linky to the chapter, in case anyone hasn't found it.

Thoughts...

So, Wax survives, and Steris probably will as well. (They go off to New Seran for the story.) But, tons of water crashing down on the Church of the Survivor... Most of those guests won't survive. I wouldn't want to be a friend of Wax. The casualty rate is too high.

Oh darn. I wasn't going to do it this time. I wasn't going to lessen the impact of the book by reading the individual chapters. That lasted all the way until I saw this topic. I had to read it NOW.

Loved the dialog but couldn't help some tears. Steris wants this marriage and she knew he really wasn't ready and feeling trapped.

How did I totally miss that Wax and Lessie were actually married? How was she planning on explaining the part about being immortal to him?

No, no no.

Spoilers

It falls right on top of both Wax and Steris, who are the only ones to die.

The story follows Wayne's quest to exorcise Wax's cognitive shadow from Marsh's body before he can absorve The Lord Ruler's powers and take over the Set to build new bodies for him and his bride using Hemalurgy.

As I explain here, Doctor Who is not Cosmere, because Reckoners isn't Cosmere.

Doctor Who is Cosmere in my headcanon.

(The Doctor isn't an Epic; he's not even human!)

....we should probably stop derailing this thread so badly.  Um.  Steris continues to be made entirely of awesome.  True facts.

We're going to need to talk.

Anyway, What's distracting Harmony? Autonomy's influence? Or is Sazed worldhopping?

I don't think that Saze can worldhop without messing with Scadrial's Investiture.  He's probably got kandra out doing it for him.  I imagine he is freaking right the frell out about that new godmetal.
