@Mestiv Wikipedia says root beer's dominant flavor is sassafras. Dunno if that helps describe the taste to you at all. XD But it's one of my favorite sodas/soft drinks, after red creme soda and grape soda.

Hmm... that explains a lot. If only uncle andy and the others had given him more root beer how much trouble might have been avoided.

Wonder which world has the best root beer though? Roshar since that's the system Odium is in? Thrennody? Maybe Silverlight has the best?

I don't understand how can there be so many ways to read the same word in English. And they say that English is an easy language :/

Whoever told you that is a liar. English isn't even a language - it's three languages (German, French, Latin) stacked on top of each other wearing a trenchcoat. And then like the trenchcoated thug it is, it lurks around in dark alleys beating up other languages and rifling through their pockets for loose vocabulary.

@little wilson I agree with that wholeheartedly. It's weird how caffeine affects different people. I don't really get anything from it, I go more for the flavor of the drink like you, but my mom insists the caffeine in Coke helps her with headaches.

That's accurate, depending on the type of headache. Caffeine has a constriction effect on blood vessels. Migraines occur when the blood vessels in the back of your eyes constrict, then suddenly relax, springing open and causing a rush of blood that in turn causes intense pain. Caffeine helps regulate that effect so that they don't spring back so far.

I rarely drink pop/soda/carbonated beverages at all anymore. But generally the reason behind caffeine not being a stimulant to some people is due to some kind of attention disorder. I have ADD, and just about everyone I've talked to who caffeine doesn't work on like normal have either ADD and/or ADHD. Caffeine should wake people up. If it doesn't, there's something going on.

Yep. I noticed when I was young that caffeine didn't have much of an effect on me. It's only been in the last year or so that I've realized that I probably have the inattentive form of ADD. I'm still pondering my options on how to put caffeine back into my diet without overloading on sugar calories.

My pet peeve today (and always, but it happened today): being called "Rosie"

Don't ever do this, please, because it drives me into a frothing rage. It is not my name. It is a perfectly good name, and there's nothing wrong with it in general, but it is not me. If, by chance, any of you should ever meet me at a convention, signing, or what have you, you may call me Rosemary. Or Kaymyth. Or Kay. Or Red (though that's going to be less appropriate as my henna grows out and my hair colors get crazier). Or Hey You With The Face.

But not Rosie. Words cannot express how much I loathe this. Never, ever, ever. Unless you're my aunt Sally because for some reason she gets away with it I don't know how but none of you are so just no.

To be honest, it never occurred to me to call you "Rosie"!

My uncle-aspect does wish to say something groan worthy like, "Hey, Rosemary! Where's Parsley, Sage and Thyme?"

*You'll be happy to know my cat bit me for writing that*

Heh. The joke is hardly original, but I still find it fun to play with. Oddly enough my husband is never amused when I start making autocannibalism jokes while we're cooking.

But. Yeah. Someone on Facebook did it this morning. We were having what was already a contentious political discussion, and she called me "Rosie" in an attempt to talk down to me and I just said, "nope," and blocked her without another word.

I get migraines but caffeine doesn't help me at all. My sister was the one who recommended it to her, I don't know if what she has is a migraine or just a headache, and she tried to make me try it but I hate Coke so it was never going to be pleasant on that part. The only solution I've found that works is getting to sleep since I always feel better in the morning.

Rosie is a lovely name, especially if you're a riveter. But I get you on that. My grandpa always called me Charlie Brown when I was little and I hated it so much! My real name is Douglas and I hate when people try calling me Dougie Fresh, after that song and dance that was so popular a few years back.

I've got another nickname for you: Mary with the Rose.

Pet Peeve: conspiracy theories.

This weekend I had a long, in-person talk with someone who was leaning towards some conspiracy theories (never been to space, fake moon landing/etc.). At the end of that convo I am fairly confident that I convinced him not to buy into that crem. Which is great.

And then I go onto the internet and noticed the comment sections of a few posts, including a couple NASA related. It made my heart hurt.

Seriously people. 99% of conspiracy theories are utter garbage. People are terrible at keeping secrets

You can't motivate people enough to keep a conspiracy hidden unless it involves a bare handful of people (2-20) and then only for a short time (the more people, the shorter the time). People just don't work that way. You can't get hundreds of people to lie convincingly together. Let alone thousands. Let alone millions.

The more people involved, and the more severe the conspiracy, the faster it'll break down.

Snowden is a classic example. The NSA was monitoring people it wasn't allowed to monitor. It was allowed to monitor some people. This illegal monitoring program was also somewhat successful, it may even have saved lives! Certainly people were told it saved lives. And they were promised draconian punishments for breaking silence. And not that many people were in on it.

The conspiracy still broke down, and quickly. People had an inkling it was happening. Leaks started coming out that it was happening. Some believed, some didn't. Then Snowden, at great cost to himself, blew the whole darn thing open.

This particular conspiracy was much better set up to succeed than most proposed ones are, yet it still failed within, what, two years? One?

If the NSA can't keep that under wraps, with incredible motivation, how do you think NASA - somehow working with their worst enemies the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War - managed to pretend that they'd made it to the moon when they hadn't? And have kept it up for 50 years.

Tens of thousands of people were involved directly. Hundreds of thousands indirectly. Millions watched it happen. Hundreds of thousands were present for the rocket launches. Hundreds were present for the capsule recovery operations. Dozens went to the moon in person over the Apollo missions.

Thoudands, if not hundreds of thousands, have seen the landing sites with their own eyes and their own telescopes.

Meanwhile, Russia glowered in defeat, with the technology, ability and will to prove their greatest enemy a fraud they.... didn't?

None of it makes sense.

And don't even get me started on the flat earth.

I think that would be a power beer @Oversleep

I thought caffeine would energise me and wake up as well. Not disappointed as everyone knows its the amount you drink that is important! *chugs a litre bottle. Still trying to find the optimal amount!

@Erunion

Personally I find Conspiracy Theories quite fun to read, if not very plausible. I love it when I come across people who genuinely believe some of the more ridiculous ones.

I mean look at that xD

Don't be quick to join them, there are plenty of things that debunk these claims as well, like science, logic and common sense.

Funnily people take the monitor to computer repair shows because they think that IS the computer.

Actually, regarding the moon landing, one thing I've heard is that at the time, it would have been very difficult if not impossible to actually fake a moon landing to that level.

Regarding conspiracy theories I don't necessarily believe them, but I am not there and do not have all the facts. There is a lot of information out there that someone like me would not know so how can one say 100 percent if something is true or false? One can be mostly sure on something, but it's hard for one really know these things. To believe otherwise well...that's a lot of hubris.

Like ammanas said, I think most of the conspiracy stuff is blown out of proportion, but... I ate an extra cookie from the refreshments once, and didn't tell anyone.

What it's like working with my mom: After being too busy to check request forms yesterday I checked them this morning. A majority were asking for extension cords but one was asking for a power cord, not saying if it was for a laptop or projector. I ask my mom about it and she snaps at me that she already got with the teacher on the matter. I tell her "I don't know if you've contacted teachers or not" since she never said anything before that she was getting information from a teacher on a request form. She said her favorite shoot down phrase when she's wrong but refuses to admit it "I'm not going to get into it with you!" I can't even ask a simple question anymore with her!

My mom does the same thing. She'll leave out important details and when you ask for clarification, she gets mad that your "questioning" her.

What's worse is she did this in front of another employee and he didn't bat an eye. She makes me want to quit more than anything.

You really should. It seems you're just accumulating more and more excuses to do so, looking for them at times.

But make sure you approach it right if you do.
Your mother seems stressed, leave her a letter or something explaining clearly why working with her irks you so much. Idk if she will have the time or patience to have a chat with you without blowing up.

Wait wtd am I doing giving advice. Ignore me.

She blows up at the most minor thing with me anymore, but she's also thinking of leaving after this year.

If she's stressed then she's been stressed for the past decade. My sister doesn't even like talking to her anymore because of how she acts (two years ago we went to my sister's place for Christmas and my mom treated her as selfish for not wanting to spend all day at my grandpas grave, which she did by the way and when I talked to my dad earlier this year and our conversation came around to that incident she had apparently made it out that we hadn't gone to the grave at all and it was her first time going during the trip so he was surprised when I told him that was her second trip with her first being when we arrived in California.) and the other day we texted because I couldn't get ahold of her to call her for her birthday and my mom was so angry at her she didn't want me texting my sister anymore so when I told my sister that her response was "This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules???" and pretty much our conversation ended with us not looking forward to Christmas because of her attitude over a couple missed calls.

It just seems like she's just becoming a bitter old woman who doesn't want anyone around her since she's always turning away her friends these days. My sisters fed up with her, my dad doesn't enjoy being with her anymore (luckily he's a trucker so he can get away from her) and even I've given up trying to talk any sense to her since broaching anything serious is lieable to getting my head chewed off by her. I'd have given up on everything a couple years ago if I hadn't met a very wonderful person online who makes my world much better and easier to live in.

She needs a proper holiday on her own.
