A Budgie she/her Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 @Cognizantastic I kinda understand what you mean there. I go to an acedemically select school, which means people expect us to be good at everything. I mean, I am pretty smart? But whenever people go on about how clever our school is, it makes us worry, and this 'smart' label puts high pressure on all of us. To most people I know, getting 70% on a maths test is awful.
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 yes. I hate it when people set expectations. They go on about "potential" etc. Just hurts more when I am forced to deliberately let them down, so they don't expect anything of me.
A Budgie she/her Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 So, one thing that annoys me: people who assume that all guitar playing is either electric guitars playing riffs or acoustic guitars playing chords with singing. There is an instrument called the classical guitar and it sounds wonderful... 4

Electric guitars can also play chords behind things too, and acoustic guitars can be used for incredible solos, and…yeah, I agree with you. EDIT: An amazing example to me is "Perspicuity" by Phil Keaggy, Wes King, and Scott Denté, three of the most amazing guitarists I've ever heard (though there are of course many others who are equal or better). This is it on Spotify if you want to hear: Edited March 5, 2017 by Jondesu
Elenion he/him Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 @Cognizantastic I have the same problem! I began taking college-level classes as a high-school sophomore, and got a 36 on the ACT that same year, and people started looking at me like I was some sort of walking computer. And then some people took it further, attributing things to me that I didn't do, which is really awkward to defuse. Also, everyone always tries to compete with me in test scores, etc. because they want to prove to their friends how smart they are. They don't understand that I'm human, too. They don't see my weaknesses; only my strengths. And so they think that I'm on another level than them, when really it's because I'm paying attention in class while they're chatting with their friends or playing on their phone. It's even affected my dating life: it's hard to date a girl you're compatible with if she assumes that she isn't smart enough for you.
A Budgie she/her Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 @Jondesu I had a listen, and although I'm not a huge fan of jazz, it is quite nice. I personally like Andrew York's music, with probably Sunburst as my favourite. 1
Silverblade5 he/him Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 People who take things from others just for the lolz. It's gotten to the point that I'm just done with it. Now, if it's something I'm currently using, I just take it back.
Mistrunner Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 One of my pet peeves is this whole "time" thing. It's March already. I'm legally allowed to drive and get jobs. This is unacceptable. It's still 2014. Someone tell it to stop. 2

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 "What do you mean, you don't know what I'm asking you to do? I gave you the vaguest, most confusing request I could! You're the worst librarian ever!"

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Brain weasels that plant thoughts, Inception style. This morning, I was thinking about the new employee my department is getting soon. And I thought about the newest employee, Formerly Pushy Coworker, hired about a month after I was. And I thought, I bet they'll both get promoted over me. And now I can't shake the thought. It doesn't help that it's happened before, at a different job, despite other coworkers saying it was unfair and I should have been promoted first.
Orlion Blight he/him Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 .@TwiLyghtSansSparkles How promotions work are a Mystery. I hope the library recognizes and rewards you for your merit!

At one job, a fellow host who went out of her way to avoid side work--even, in one instance, on Mother's Day, when her refusal to roll silverware very nearly sunk us--got moved up to takeaway server presumably because she'd been there the longest. And then the same manager promoted two hosts who were hired well after me before I was even allowed to take the menu test. So, I don't have much faith in the Promotion Fairy.

Line up other potential work, and then complain... My last job was like that too. I got my promotion after a year of hard work and expressing interest. A bit later, they promoted some guy who had been there 3 weeks and had no prior experience with management or any industry experience... He quit less than a month later due to drug use overtaking his life and making him not come to work. Yeah, that bothered me a lot. It was a really lax workplace, drug use wise. They warn you they may do drug tests, but I'm almost certain they never tested a single person. I don't really mind that the place closed, but I was comfortable there
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 "I have never been here and had you say all the study rooms were full." Congratulations! You get to experience something new! A little change is good for everyone. Also, no amount of whining will enable me to create another one just for you so please shut up.
