Does anyone here do any sort of craft-type thing, like knitting or crocheting or sewing?

I'm learning to knit and I was just wondering if anyone here does that. >.>

I can sort of crochet, and I've been sewing since I was three. I do mostly cosplay, but I'm hoping to broaden into sewing everyday and business clothes for myself as well.

The most I can crochet are a few simple chain stitches. My mom was supposed to show me more but she hasn't yet. Ah well.

I can theoretically crochet, my mom used to crochet like crazy, making many cozy blankets that still exist and a number of stuffed animals which do not, and she gave me a sort of introduction. That was like three or four years ago.

I...uhhh.....*scratches beard*....oh yeah, I sewed up the sleeve of my jumper....badly >.>

I'm sewing a teddy bear for my girlfriend. It's simple but time consuming.

On the other hand, if we're just going with crafts I'm not a terrible wood and metal worker... Built like half the furniture for my parents house.

Hey, chain-mail is awesome. I'd love to know how to make that kind of stuff. My next project, I think, is going to be costume armor and propmaking - using things like foam, wood, and fiberglass to make good-looking costume pieces.

Chain-mail is just TOOO awesome!

and I've been know to be a novice paper folder (origami-like). As in I can follow patterns, and nearly get good models out of them. I have no fine motor control, so the fiddly bits get a bit gunked...lol

You can get a lot of interesting skills from renaissance fairs, thats where I got the chainmail skill from, and candle manking too but I suck at that.

I made chain mail the other day. It went something like this.

IF YOU DON"T SEND THIS EMAIL IN 5 SECNDS TO 50 PEOPLE YOUR HEAD WILL EXPLODE. TRUST ME IT HAPPENED TO ME. THAT'S HOW THIS EMAIL GOT FORWARDED.

If you send it to one person, you will die slowly and alone.

If you send it to ten people, you will die with someone holding your party.

If you send it to 50000 people, you turn into Hoid.

If you send it to 50,000 people, you die immeditely.

You get a wish if you do it right NOW! Go do it! Spread it like Malaria! Make your wildest wish come true!

I did this, and I got my kiss from my lifelong crush! And then magically added that detail to all the emails I forwarded! Yay!

(send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it now send it nowsend it nowsend it nowsend it nowsend it nowsend it nowsend it nowsend it now)

I'm putting together a plan to make a wooden dinner table with a Table of Allomantic Metals inlay in it. This could be a while in the works, but if I can put it together, would anyone else want one? It wouldn't be free, you'd have to pay for materials, but it would still be a baThis post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules dining room piece. I was also thinking of putting lerasium and Atium on an expansion, so the table can expand if you have huge amounts of company...

I can knit scarves. That's about it...I'd like to make some sweaters and stuffed animals, but it's hard for me to teach myself that kind of thing. I can hardly even purl.

I cross stitch from time to time. I would love to learn how to knit. I have a sewing machine but I've only used it on some hem issues.

Sprite Stitch is a pretty neat site - video game inspired sewing crafts for the most part.

Are you by any chance the one who knitted the Mistborn scarf I saw on DA?

lol, no. The fanciest scarf I've done had 6 stripes on it xP

Edit: One day I'd like to embroider a sweatshirt or shirt with the allomantic chart on it, though.

It's not that bad, really; you can do a lot with just a simple satin stitch. I find the best way to learn is get yourself an embroidery hoop and thread, sketch a design on a scrap of fabric, and practice! I managed to get a good bit of embroidery done for an Aes Sedai shawl I was doing, and I hadn't embroidered anything in years.

Yeah, I think it'll be pretty easy, I just want to make sure I have it all down before starting on the sweater. Plus, I can't get the materials at the moment.

I finally ordered my own set of knitting needles a few days ago, I cannot wait till they get here. :D It'll be nice not to have to base my projects on the one pair of needles I borrowed from my friend.... XD >.>

I'm knitting a blanket right now, which is going okay, although I haven't been progressing very fast since school and work started. :D

I'm also going to knit this for my brother, and maybe his friend (if he pays me):

I tried to have my sister teach me to crochet, but she barely knows the basics, so that didn't work out too well.

I used to be able to embroider a little bit, I have an embroidery hoop with a partially-completed project from over 10 years ago in my room somewhere. I probably still could, if I wanted to, but I am definitely not big on sewing.

Oh, and the best knitting pattern I've ever seen was entitled: "EXTERMIKNIT!" ;)

I want to learn how to crochet. My mom just told me her church has a group that does it weekly. What they make goes to people in need. I might have to sit in and learn.

How hard was it for you to learn knitting?

I started a bender (from Futurama) cross stitch pattern this weekend). It just seems like I would rather learn how to crochet Amigurumi.

Hmm, it wasn't that hard for me to pick up the basics. My friend gave me this DVD that showed me how to knit, and she helped me with the few things that didn't make sense to me.

I haven't gotten into anything really complicated yet, but at the rate I'm going, I don't anticipate too many problems.

I don't think knitting is really that hard to pick up, although that could just be me. My friend did comment that I did very well for a beginner, so maybe knitting is just one of the very few things I'm good at. :P

In all seriousness, though, knitting shouldn't be too hard to learn, as long as you start out easy. My friend gave me a pair of US 7 needles, and some black yarn, and told me to give it a go. I'd say starting out with medium-ish needles and "normal" yarn (2 bucks at wal-mart kind) can make a lot of difference. If you're someone who needs visual demonstrations, look up videos or ask a friend to show you...if not, there are plenty of books out there (my sister had one that I stole and now use to reference whenever I forget something).

Amigurimi is actually one of the main reasons I want to learn to crochet. I've seen so many patterns for awesome stuff, but it's all supposed to be crocheted! I gotta learn how to do that. :D
