Curious Anamaximder he/him Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Ticketing in Washington D.C. crashed within hours of opening Ruined my day. Oh no! I am in DC!
ThirdGen Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 It has not been mundane. We talked about the nonexistent Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. What a weird conversation. Controversial opinion: Andrew Garfield is a better Spider-Man, better Peter Parker, and all around better actor than Tobey Maguire. The Amazing Spider-Man movies carry themselves on the strength of their characters (a big component of why 2 didn't work as well is the villains don't make any sense. "Spider-Man? There are cops near here. I go from worship to hate now!"). Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies... well, 2 was good at the time, but looking back, it's got just as bad of a Raimi problem as the other two. Going crazy broad with the comedy, music, and posing while saying lines acting is not good movietime. T + K + Geekosity = wavefunction ( madness + cos(arbitraryridiculousness) * Fibonacci + 42) - hubris At least when the neutron flow is stable. Otherwise, there are a bunch more variables and one of those big calculus symbol thingies.

Zathoth Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I thank video games and music for my ability to communicate decently in english. We should all just switch to Lojban so we can make a little more sense.(I jest, people will never make sense)
Mailliw73 he/him Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I had my first Cosmere dream last night. I've never understood how you guys had them, but now I know. I don't remember much about it, but Bleeder was some huge brute of a guy trying to kill me and then my alarm went off and I woke up. 1
Guest Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Learning Lojban is possibly one of the most uselessly geeky things possible...
Zathoth Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Learning Lojban is possibly one of the most uselessly geeky things possible... Yes,, but it is cool! I need to pick that up again... barely remember anything... If others can learn Klingon and Elvish I can learn Lojban.

Kaymyth she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) OK, kids, it's limerick time! Translation under the spoiler tags: The integral d squared d z From one to the cubed root of three Times the cosine Of three pi over nine Is the log of the cubed root of e I love being a nerd. Curious Anamaximder he/him Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 OMG! It has been thirty minutes since someone posted in Random Stuff! Is the forum asleep?
Zathoth Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 If I ever become an epic math is a good guess for my weakness.
Kaymyth she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 OMG! It has been thirty minutes since someone posted in Random Stuff! Is the forum asleep? And now we know: calculus limericks kill threads. 1
Blaze1616 he/him Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 And now we know: calculus limericks kill threads. Did you want someone to solve it? For z?
Kaymyth she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Did you want someone to solve it? For z? You can if you want to, but I've had a cousin poke it to make sure it's true. It is. There's another calc equation that reads like a limerick out there, too, but I don't remember it offhand. This one is the one I learned in college. It's...also the only thing I actually remember from Calc.

That last bit is a "natural log"! And is also equal to one third....
The Honor Spren she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 We need to provoke discussion here! Twilyght, how did you feel about this part of Gravity falls?
Kaymyth she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 That last bit is a "natural log"! And is also equal to one third.... I know, but "natural log" doesn't fit the rhyming scheme! And neither does reducing down the fraction!
Kaymyth she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I think this video makes everything clear. You're right. That song is much better.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) We need to provoke discussion here! Twilyght, how did you feel about this part of Gravity falls? It just brought up more questions. 1. Why does he have to get them across the US border? Unless Canada loves pugs even more than we do, he'd get a better price for them on US soil. But it seems like they're going to Mexico, which makes even less sense than Canada. 2. WHY ARE THOSE PUGS IN BARRELS PUGS SHOULD BE HELD WHEN TRANSPORTED 3. Why are they "cheap" pugs? The least expensive pugs (without papers) can go for $500 apiece. Stan price gouges on everything else, so why not these pugs? 4. Why are the pugs so docile? Real pugs don't sit that still unless they're asleep. My theory regarding that scene is that these are no ordinary pugs. Rather, they are superpowered pugs, thanks to some Gravity Falls weirdness, and Stan is sending them across the border to get revenge on whoever sent him to prison in Columbia! Delightful Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 What is Lojban? Also .....I kind of assumed that Gravity Falls was an acted, Sci fi kinda show. It's a cartoon??? o_O 1
Zathoth Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 What is Lojban? Also .....I kind of assumed that Gravity Falls was an acted, Sci fi kinda show. It's a cartoon??? o_O It is a cartoon, a pretty, storming good cartoon. Soooo... Twi could you say something weird? I really want to say "You have entered The Twilyght Zone." 2
RippleGylf she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I haven't seen it, but the impression I get it's in between those cartoons that young kids watch, and "adult" cartoons.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Is it officially a kids show? Officially, yes. But it's intense enough, with enough jokes guaranteed to sail over kids' heads, that I tend to think the creators made it for adults and marketed it on Disney XD as a strategic financial move. It blurs the lines between kids and adult shows brilliantly. As for something weird I could say....um....do you think Pattern could twist into the shape of the McDonalds logo? If so, what would Shallan think of it? Would Wit say "I'm loving it," or not? 2
