Mikanium Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 When Ruin was killed by Vin, and his body was described, it struck me odd that pretty much the only description we have of him is that he had Red. I was wondering if anyone thought of reasons for why this was significant enough to be basically the only descriptor of the guy other then he was male?
Shardlet he/him Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I get the impression that it was because red hair was at least very unusual on Scadrial.
FeatherWriter she/her Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I as well, Shardlet. I took Ati's red hair to be a sort of hint that he wasn't a Scadrial native. A cosmere clue, so to speak.
WeiryWriter he/him Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I always read it as Brandon mentioning Ati's most distinctive feature. I'm pretty sure he did the same thing with Leras' big nose as well. (If I remember correctly) 1

Mikanium Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 I don't think anyone knows where the shardholders come from. But Ati and Leras don't come from Scandriel, and I don't think that was the reason to point out hair.

Argent he/him Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 The original Shardholders come from Yolen, as does Hoid. Where Adonalsium Shattered.
Oudeis he/him Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 It's possible it was just meant for literary drama. A shocking color to appear out of nowhere associated with some random man. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Argent he/him Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 True. But a cigar on a world with no tobacco... suspicious. 6

Swimmingly he/him Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 No tobacco? But...Breeze was always smoking either a pipe or a cigar in my imagination...
Ete'ni Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 what colour was Tinwyl's hair? Wasn't it auburn? I think auburn is pretty close to red...
FeatherWriter she/her Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Tindwyl's hair color is never mentioned, as far as I know. Her hair is described as long and in a braid, and in the same sentence she is described as wearing red—if I remember correctly—and that has caused some people to associate her hair and the color red together.
Ete'ni Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) FeatherWriter well, actually I remember word auburn in sentense. I was stunned by it actually. I might be wrong, but my friend is reading it right now, I'll ask her to pay attantion to that. I knew, I saw it. The key is Sazed. He loved her, so he told everything. Tindvyl had an auburn hair. And isn't it considerd to be a shade of red? Tindwyl didn't respond. She looked at the table, with its scattered notations, each drawn from one or another of their copperminds, scribbled in haste, then shown and reread. What was this night, then? This night of study, this night sharing thoughts and discoveries? She was still beautiful. Auburn hair graying, but kept long and straight. Face marked by a lifetime of hardship that had not broken her. And eyes ... keen eyes, with the knowledge and love of learning that only a Keeper could claim Edited November 8, 2013 by firstRainbowRose Please use the edit button instead of double posting
The Rooster he/him Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Slowswift in Fadrex City smoked a pipe. Brandon mentioned he envisioned him as Tolkein. No tobacco? But...Breeze was always smoking either a pipe or a cigar in my imagination...
Argent he/him Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 It was a metaphor... Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. = Sometimes things are as they seem. But a cigar on a world with no tobacco... suspicious. = Yes, but sometimes even if things are as they seem, those things are strange in nature.
