theory [Bands Spoiler] Identity of the One-Eye Spike Man
Mikanium replied to CaptainRyan's topic in Mistborn
Or, we're thinking about this all wrong, and Spikey is not a person, but an ideal, spiritual reference, or an organization's logo. Just think of the Chaos we would cause if we sent 50 US Quarters (one with each state stamped on it). Would they try and melt it down to see what metal it really was? Or would they try and figure out what all the symbols meant. Also, I don't think we should completely eliminate Marsh for this reason. -
I was thinking of when Shalan made her illusion, then inhaled the stormlight to banish the illusion... That's what made me wonder about the shadeplate. Could anyone with the ability to invest/infuse stormlight have taken the stormlight from her illusion? I would hope not, but I don't think we have any facts to say otherwise. And about the plate, I don't think you have to see a gem to be able to use it's light.. Which makes me wonder if the plate itself is protecting it. What would protect it? Aluminum? Could ShadPlate be made from Aluminum?
-
Can someone who can infuse themselves with stormlight, from gemstones, take the stromlight from shardplate? If not why?

Oh, I was close =)

The most devastating shard weapons
Mikanium replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
Even though we will probably never see it, I would love to see Dalinar weilding The Stormfather. I can picture the blade in my mind, with the blade made of pure stormlight. -
http://coppermind.net/wiki/Susebron The wiki says He "WAS" the god king of Halladren. Is this just a typo or am I not remembering something,

Has anyone asked Brandon.. [Spoilers Zahel/Sword]
Mikanium replied to Mikanium's topic in Stormlight Archive
Vasher slew Shashara because she was going to release the knowledge on how to make sentient sword. And now he's on Roshar. Anyone else see the irony in that? -
Has anyone asked Brandon.. [Spoilers Zahel/Sword]
Mikanium replied to Mikanium's topic in Stormlight Archive
So the general consensus is that Nightblood would not harm Vasher, and if Szeth tried, it would be bad for him. I wonder if perhaps Nightblood could compel Szeth to give nightblood back to Vasher (whether Vasher wanted it or not). If the first few hours are read only memory, then Nightblood might as well call Vasher Dad. It's a little weird that Nightblood dwells on the past, yet has no concept of time. -
Has anyone asked Brandon if Nightblood would allow Szeth to use it against Zahel? I can't stop speculating that Nightblood decided that Zahel is evil for some reason now, and that's how he lost it. He does mention he misses it. Also, in the timeline of Stormlight Archive, does/would Zahel feel sick around Nightblood? I know someone who has drawn Nightblood has the nausea suppressed. We know Brandon doesn't just say 'It would be cool if people who were good felt sick around the sword', the mechanics of the magic system (oxymoron anyone?) cause the effect. Luckily, Brandon never comes to Florida, because I would ask something stupid like 'What would happen if Hoid had all 10 honor blades ducktaped to his body, and consumed Aluminum, Duralium, Malatium, and Lerasium at the same time, while sitting on a giant soulstone floating in the purelake?'

I also really liked "The Diagram". It's not a moment per-say, but I just have this picture in my mind of Brandon renting a storage shed somewhere, furnishing it, and actually writing all this stuff out all over the room in brilliant insanity. I'd also like to know if he wrote the in-world "Worlds of Radiance" book completely.
-
I'm answering this before I read anyone else's replies so I'm not swayed. 1) Kaladin finally stop whining, the glyph appearing behind him as he states 'The knights radiant have returned' 2) Lift and her Awesomeness. 3) Realization that Hoid has used the Lerasium, and is using Allomancy on Roshar, Which 'pushes' a theory I made over a year ago that there is a pattern to the magic systems on all the shards. My original theory is in my sig. 4) Pattern saying "Voidbringers have no pattern. Besides, I have read of them in your lore. They speak of spindly arms like bone, and horrific faces. I should think, if you wish to find one, the mirror might be a location where you can begin your search". I had to stop reading, and I was wheezing with tears in my eyes. 5) Syl changing from sword to spear to shield to hammer. 6) Last, but not least, "The Lopen".

“I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.”

“I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.”

Wouldn't that depend on the if Roshone could defend himself or not? Because if he didn't protect Roshone if he could not protect himself then he's not following the ideals. That's my point. There is contradiction. -
“I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.”

I find that debatable. Kaladin doesn't do it because he's a good person. He does it because Alokahr is important to Dalinar, and he was killing Syl. I would say he does it because he changed his mind and decided it was right thing to do, after ignoring his conscious and Syl for so long His motivations seem more related to the guilt of the people around him dying then being a good person. -
"Oh, you mean that other one. No, Brightness, I sold that one to a slaver a few weeks ago." Liss grimaced. We have no idea which slaver it was sold too. The Parshendi had not decided to kill the King until that night, when Dalinar had shared 'his plans' with them. We don't know how the stone got from the slaver, to the Parshendi. Again, this is a theory, but the Parshendi knew what the oathstone was, I think Liss knew where the slaver was headed, and knew the Parshendi would get ahold of it. A lot of speculation, I know. But there are no coincidences.

Does anyone else find the third oath a little disturbing? It's so... Wishy Washy. It took Kalidin putting together that Alohkar was Dalinar's "Talin" for him to snap out of all the uncharacteristic virtues that he had from the first book and utter the oath. Good Ideal: “Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination.” Good Ideal: “I will protect those who cannot protect themselves.” Does not fit for me: “I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right." Seems another way of saying: "I will defend people I think are incompetent and the world would be a better place without, as long as it doesn't kill my Spren" OK, I'm being a little sarcastic here. It just does not fit in my eyes.

Forgive me if this has been tossed around, but my wife just finished the book so I was able to talk freely with her (she hates it when I accidentally gives something away, I asked her to see if she could spot Vasher and she about took my head off) . But we hashed this out a little and it makes sense to me, at least. Anyway, Jesnah. In the prologue, she ponders on hiring all the assassins she could as a 'precaution' against anyone else hiring them. One of them is Liss, who obviously had (and presumably sold) Szeth's oathstone. Does this make Jesnah accountable, directly or indirectly, for the murder of her father and Szeth's oathstone falling into Parshendi hands? If Jesnah didn't keep Liss around it's probable that Szeth would not have been put in the exact position he needed to be to kill the king, then eventually fall into Taravangian's hands. There is some speculation that Liss is a Herald. Paperhouse thinks she's Vedeledev but I'm leaning towards Paliah. I believe the "Divine Attributes" have been perverted, either eroded by time, madness, or intentionally. Paliah was "Learned and Giving", and I can see how these Divine Attribute being perverted would fit into what we know about her. If Liss *IS* a Herald, she was manipulating even Jasnah, which is no small feat. If she has a blade, it would most likely be an honorblade. I'm not sure if a herald picking up a blade of a dead Spren would cause the screaming, but I would guess that they would avoid them like the plague. Remember, Shardblades came about after they deserted, and it was the Spren themselves who imitated the blades. I also think Jesnah has visited the Nightwatcher, but I'll post that theory when I have finished the research on it.

It was the puppies Peter, wasn't it.

While it's a decent theory, I think a better theory would be the number of Kohlin's running around surge binding. My first guess is he's a Skybreaker, and second guess is a Dustbringer. I don't buy that it was really Nalan giving the Nightblood to Seth.

Ya know, it's not fair that audible hasn't changed their format to allow images. But I love Michael Kramer and Kate Redding way too much to get my Brandon any other way.
-
Verbatim, just as a FYI: The Almighty turned to him. “I was surprised when these orders arrived. I did not teach my Heralds this. It was the spren—wishing to imitate what I had given men—who made it possible. You will need to re-found them. This is your task. Unite them. Create a fortress that can weather the storm. Vex Odium, convince him that he can lose, and appoint a champion. He will take that chance instead of risking defeat again, as he has suffered so often. This is the best advice I can give you.”

But what is his REASON for conflicting with Kaladin? His conflict is with his own people for making him truthless. Kaladin is proof that his people were wrong, so he's going to blame everything that he has been commanded to do with the oath stone on Kaladin? I wonder how NightBlood will react to that. Also, NightBlood fed on breath. Vasher said that if it used all his breath he would die. It will be interesting to see if it feeds on stormlight. I asked Brandon what would happen if someone downed Lerasium on Roshar what would happen, and his reply was "It depends if he/she knows what they are doing". Hoid did it on Roshar. He knows what he's doing I'm assuming. I have a crackpot theory that if a Knight Radiant knew what he was doing, and ingested Lerasium from Scandrial, that he would get all 10 surges. Just like it would turn a normal person into an Allomancer or make an Allomancer extremely powerful. Hoid downing a vial makes me want to upgrade this from crackpot.

From the Wiki: A "good" person, someone who wouldn't want to use Nightblood for evil purposes, feels sick in Nightblood's vicinity. This sensation of nausea is suppressed if the user has drawn Nightblood and had his or her breath drained. It is of note that Szeth makes no mention of any sensation of nausea or lust for the sword upon encountering Nightblood. So the question is why does Szeth not feel sick. I think if he's a coward and a follower he would act just like the people that would grab Nightblood when Vashar would throw him into the middle of a group of 'bad' people and the sword would compel the person who grabbed it to kill everyone then the wielder.. I dunno.

Is it that big of a stretch? Shallan was what, 10 when she killed her Mother by summoning pattern as a sword..
