RenegadeShroom Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 3. What were the "aspens" in TFE and WoA? Did they survive post-Catacendre? Aspens are a kind of tree. We have 'em here in the real world too. Given that... I'd wager that they did continue being a thing post-Catacendre.
ecohansen Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 So, were aspens the only green-leaved flowering plants in the Final Empire?
RenegadeShroom Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Green plants were a very foreign idea to the people of the Final Empire, so I don't think so. I expect that Rashek changed them during his Ascension to be more yellow/brown leaved, and if they continued to exist post-Catacendre -- which I believe is likely since Scadrial is the Cosmere's Earth-analogue -- Harmony probably changed them back to how they are for us on Earth.
Oversleep Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Can Listeners maintain their form indefinitely long or do they need to change it every so often or atleast supply it with Stormlight by coming out in the highstorm? (Much like Returned need to consume Breaths)
Asperity he/him Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Has Adonalsium gone by another name? Was Adonalsium its true name or a given name? Was Adonalsium self-aware? (I feel like we know this one but I honestly don't remember)
timasp he/him Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 What about brass? Well, since Soothing is not a Feruchemical power, then that argument does not apply. I'd imagine the Lord Ruler is a brass savant, for one thing (it's pretty much a given, considering how long he burned it). Brandon also said in the annotations that the Lord Ruler used Hemalurgy to pull off his most astonishing tricks, so that could have something to do with it. I may be wrong, but I think there's WOB that it works through feruchemy. Basically, it works both ways. You can burn your reserves, or you can burn a metal with the added amount of the attribute in it.
Alisto Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 What effect does old age have on the Spiritual and Cognitive selves? Is there degradation? As an application, if you have an Allomancer/Feruchemist who is about to die of old age, does spiking them to take their powers have the same effect as spiking someone in their prime? 1
Yata he/him Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 What effect does old age have on the Spiritual and Cognitive selves? Is there degradation? As an application, if you have an Allomancer/Feruchemist who is about to die of old age, does spiking them to take their powers have the same effect as spiking someone in their prime? In the Spiritual realm all the Time and Space is the same thing. There there is a "perfect version" of yourself therefore your aging can't change anything there. In the Cognitive Realm, probably your Cognitive Aspect ages together with you. Anyway I don't think your Investiture will be influenced by your age (also if in your entire lifetime, you may became an Allomantic Savant and therefore your power became more strong and your body more addicted to it).
Asperity he/him Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Is the Adonalsium galaxy secluded from the rest of the outer universe? (Completely made that name up in lieu of a known one; maybe we'll get it when we get the star chart.) (Maybe we'll get all Shardworlds named too!)

STINK he/him Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If Ruin was a parent, and made the usual threats such as 'where the Sun don't shine' and 'I'll stick it so far up your arse...', would it actually spike his children and benefit him even more for discipline?
Jondesu he/him Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 If Ruin was a parent, and made the usual threats such as 'where the Sun don't shine' and 'I'll stick it so far up your arse...', would it actually spike his children and benefit him even more for discipline? Bahahaha, that is a hilarious (and crude) mental image. I do wonder if any of the Shardholders are/were parents, that's something I hadn't even thought about before. I don't know if they would have had to be parents before they took up their Shard (and in that case their children are long dead if not for one of the magic systems that allows for nigh-infinite lifespans) or if it's possible for them to have children after becoming a Shardholder (which would raise a whole set of ethical and Realmatic questions). jW
Eagle of the Forest Path he/him Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 If Ruin was a parent, and made the usual threats such as 'where the Sun don't shine' and 'I'll stick it so far up your arse...', would it actually spike his children and benefit him even more for discipline? That depends on what kind of spike it is. As far as I know, the only spike that uses a rectal bindpoint is one granting feruchemical bendalloy.

Oversleep Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) Is Zahel just using "Your Stormlight to mine" Command on Roshar? Would that be possible?(BTW, how this thread even works? Is somebody constantly adding the questions to the List?)Another one, rather important: Does atium and gold REALLY share a bronze pulse pattern? Marsh said that there is a pulse pattern for physical metals, mental metals and higher metals. Edited February 15, 2016 by Oversleep
Eagle of the Forest Path he/him Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 ...Why that power? Out of perhaps morbid curiosity. Isn't it obvious? Feruchemical bendalloy is the only power that offers the possibility of bypassing the digestion system. Evacuating one's bowels is not really possible with a spike shoved in there.
Oversleep Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 After Recreance, people picked up the Shards. But the discovery that adding gem to the Blade allowed for it to bond and be (de)summoned was made later. My question is: how did people manage the Blades? They cannot be sheathed. Were they just dragging them around or what?

Evacuating one's bowels is not really possible with a spike shoved in there. It doesn't remove the mass of the food, just the nutritive value and the calories. Much like Crashers can't store their mass in a metalmind, just the weight that mass exerts. Spiking someone in the chull with a F.Bendalloy spike would cause them to have, uh, buildups.

WeiryWriter he/him Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 (BTW, how this thread even works? Is somebody constantly adding the questions to the List?) There's a google doc linked in the first post of this thread that gets updated with all the suggested questions usually before a tour (not happening for the Calamity tour because I just haven't had the time to go through and sort everything). 1

Would you like help from the community? Other people suggesting or (dare I suggest it) editing in new questions? There'd have to be an announcement post saying "Tour X is now over, do not alter the doc until the next one!" or something.
ecohansen Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 My question is: how did people manage the Blades? They cannot be sheathed. Were they just dragging them around or what? Only the edges and tips would cut the sheathes. You could have a sheath modelled after a Lastclap, where you had two flat sheets sandwiching the blade, and hold the whole thing together with something like C-clamps or lashing.. I don't have the book with me at hen moment, but I remember Zahel used something during practice to dull the shardblade's edges. I don't know if that would have been discovered before or after control-gems, but a thingum like that would obviously remove all sheathing problems.
Asperity he/him Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Were all sixteen of the original Shardholders born on Yolen?
Dunkum he/him Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) You'd need the calories as well. Otherwise The Martian would be a very boring book. right, but I assume a multivitamin has some slight (non-zero) amount of calories. the beauty of compounding is that it rises exponentially. even a very small starting amount becomes unfathomably big after just a few iterations. if a vitamin had only one one thousandth of a calorie, it would only require about 7 rounds to get it to an amount that lasts more than a day (10^-3 * 10^7=10^4=10000=5 days worth of food calories). another three rounds and you have several years worth. so a vitamin and a little bit of water (sugar water if the vitamin really doesn't have enough caloric value to get the process rolling) would be all you need for...well ever, really Edited February 17, 2016 by Dunkum
