When Lightsong gave up his divine Breath, was the corpse left behind Stennimar, or the gorgeous body of Lightsong?

I thought it was in the annotations, but I can't find it right now. I know I've heard WoB that it's at least possible for a Lifeless to remember some of his life, especially with Yesteel's mastery of Lifeless Commands. If Lightsong were given a Breath and turned into a Lifeless, would he remember being Lightsong, or being Stennimar, or both?

It almost seems like it should be possible to burn a metal and not actually "use" it, and just get the happy-warm-stomach feeling from having some Preservation in you.

This is true. Remember, when you just burn Iron or Steel without Pushing or Pulling, all that happens is that you get to see the lines indicating where metal objects are.

I have a question for the List: If "Stormlight patterns" cannot be seen by the naked eye (as Navani wrote in one of her illustrations), then how do artifabrians like her know about the patterns? Is there a device used to actually see such things?

If you stuck a camera down an Allomancer's throat while he burned metals, what would it see? Do the metals give off light as well as heat? Do they simply disappear, bit by bit, or do they disintegrate as they burn?

We know kandra are a Created-Race on Scadrial. Are there kandra native to any other world? OR are the kandra on Scadrial based on a race native to some other world?

Could you make a different kind of Kandra by going to a different shardworld and infusing the spikes with other stuff?

This WoB certainly suggests that, at the very least, you could get new Blessings on new worlds.

Are there more kinds of kandra blessings than just the four we've seen?

Potentially, yes.

Why does a spike lose charge when it's left out of a body between theft and bonding to the hemarlurgist, but Vin's spike doesn't seem to lose any charge when left out of her body for literally years after the initial bonding?

There is a lower bound of power that can be in a spike. After that, it can't lose more power.

I know... but...

I'll try to find the quote, but I seem to recall Marsh thinking to himself that the charge in the spike he left in Penrod was so weak, it might as well not even bother. Yet Vin was able to pierce copperclouds with ease, with her additional spike. Sure, she's a strong Mistborn to begin with, but surely even she is naturally more than one quantum away from piercing copperclouds, and doing so with such ease. Sensing Ruin when no one else can, being the only person to sense the Well.

She ingested some of the mists back when she was a child, which adds a lot. And the spike he left in Penrod may not have had much to begin with. If the lower bound is something like 1/10 of the original strength, her spike would be more powerful than Penrod's. Combined with the mists, that could be enough.

She's also a pretty strong allomancer in the first place, so even a relatively small boost could be all she needs. And you notice that in the beginning she has to work at piercing the clouds for a while in order to get it to work.

So we know that soulcasters (the fabrial) affect the skin of whoever uses it. How would soulcasters affect Kandra or Parshendi if they were to use them?

Posted

Hypothetical.

Bob, the Awakener, Awakens 50 tiny straw men and Commands them to dance about.

Bob dies.

Bob Returns as JiggyWithit the Smoove.

Could JiggyWithit retrieve the Breath stored in the straw men?

Be warned, in my experience FTL questions are RAFO-bait, but if you feel strongly please don't let me discourage you from asking him if you ever get the chance.

A WoB in the otherwise-unreliable MAG suggests that Aluminum Ferrings are able to do something tricky and access metalminds belonging to other people. Could a Trueself/Awakener steal Breath from Awakened objects, Lifeless, or even just normal Nalthians?

Looking at the Ars Arcanum, you could probably get 4 more types of Kandra blessings without leaving Scadrial.

(the first 8 metals have 2 to steal allomantic ability, 2 to steal Ferrochemic ability, and 4 to steal human traits [Kandra Blessings]. The last 8 metals have 2 more to steal Ferrochemic abilities, at least 1 to steal Allomantic ability.

It stands to reason that the pattern should continue, granting 1 more to steal Allomantic ability, and 4 more to steal human traits.)

(Oh, and Atium is outside the normal system: it can be used to steal Anything you want.)

At any point during Scadrial's history, Does the answer to the following Question ever change :

Does atium do anything if swallow it but cannot burn it?

[aka, if it is swallowed by someone who cannot normally burn allomantic metals.]

Is the name of ralkalest, the unForgeable metal from The Emperor's Soul, inspired by the alkahest, the universal alchemical solvent?

Good question, Argent.

Is it theoretically possible to Awaken in your sleep? Could someone with a lot of Breath have a nightmare and wake up to find that their linens are restraining them and their pillow is grey?

What would happen to a Feruchemist with multiple personalities disorder if they were loading and tapping the same metalminds?

Posted

I'm reasonably sure that isn't how actual dissociative identity disorder works...

Can you Command multiple things at once? For example, could you hold two straw-men and two colored handkerchiefs, and Command them both at once to "Dance About"? I'm guessing not since Vasher awakens the straw men one-by-one when he's looking for that tunnel with Vivenna (I think, if I'm remembering the scene correctly... I've just begun a re-read so I will see it again soon enough). What about withdrawing Breath? If I have 10 ropes, and I've simply stored 5 Breaths in each, and I wrap all ten around my arm and say, "Your Breath to mine," will I suck up all 50 Breaths at once? Or would I have to do it 10 times?

Sidenote: I may have asked this before on this forum, but I don't think so. If I store my Breath in a shawl, then get more Breath, can I simply add them to what I've got stored? Or would I need to withdraw the Breath, mix them together in my own body, and deposit the new, larger amount? Can two different people store Breath in the same shawl? (Remember, two different feruchemists can store the same attribute in the same metalmind). Can two different people give the same piece of rope two different Commands? What if they both give the same Command? If a Command takes 50 Breaths, and two people, each with 25 Breaths, hold the item and say the Command at once, will it draw the combined 50 Breaths from both of them and function?

These may have been answered in the past:

1. what happens to a spren, or a seon if it travels to another shardworld, such as Nathis or Scadrial?

2. Are shardblades usable on other worlds?
