I was going to read about Rainforests for the Diaemus Project, but I ended up reading up African languages instead...

I wrote a research paper on those a year ago. Specifically, Zulu, Xhosa, and another that I can't remember off the top of my head. Started with "Ng" if I remember right.

At least one of those ponies have her safe hoof uncovered! Scandalous! This is a family site!  :P

Let's be honest, the only woman who needs it and doesn't, is Jasnah, and her's are at least partially covered.

(And she probably thinks Safehoofs are a silly tradition any way. :P)

Working on it. I've always wanted to go to a convention, honestly.

Cosplay? If so, I'm kind of tempted to go as a sexy Rosharian lighteyes. I'll button up in silk to my chin, but leave my safehand uncovered. :P

They're fun.  Admittedly, WorldCon is rather expensive (though I believe that they're going to have lower non-voting memberships available later), but it's kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing to have it in my home city, so I'm excited.

You know that I'll be cosplaying the heck out of that con.  My armored Jean Grey outfit will definitely be ready, and I'll have my Zelda: Warrior Princess costume to wear, too.  And I'll probably have a cosplay done for Eva by then.  Possibly two.  (I have some ideas for a quick-change ballgown that has a skirt release.  Eva would be exactly the sort of person to wear a crinolined skirt specifically because of the sheer amount of weaponry one can stash under there.)

When I did mine, I was rather intimidated going into it, but it was quite alright on the inside.

Thanks xD

I was pretty comfortable the whole time. I got them laughing and engaged pretty quickly and that always makes interviews easier. I only struggled with a few questions, and I just stopped, thought about it, and gave the best answer I had and I think they liked that.

Well, we were supposed to have a realtors open house today, which is like a cruel lie. Nobody who comes is going to buy it, but we still have to clean the whole thing. My sister and I had planned to take the dogs out so they wouldn't be in the way.

And our fridge hasn't been working, so someone came by to look at it. Mom didn't tell me ahead of time, so I had to grab both dogs and take them up to my room so Bruno wouldn't bark at him. While I was up there, I texted Mom to ask if the fridge guy was still there so I could get the dogs all harnessed up and ready to go before the open house. She never replied.

Ten minutes later, my sister pounds on my door. The realtors had arrived. Half. A freaking. Hour. Early.

I don't know if my mom had warning or not, but at any rate I had to carry Bruno through a crowd of realtors to my car and drive to Petsmart. I have no idea when those stupid realtors will leave or when I can go back.

I hate realtors.

I'm never buying a house, that's how much.

I love conventions <3 although the London one's are getting a bit too popular over here. If you could see into Shadesmar at a Con and see all the tiny lights that represent people, you'd see a giant radiant, glowing ball of dazzle, it was like a sea of people   and LFCC last year was even worse. It was like walking into a tsunami of people (granted Stan Lee was doing a signing so.....that only added to it). Really would love to go to few American ones but time and money >.<

Yeah, that's about how Dragon*Con's gotten over on this side of the pond.  Too many people; that's why I stopped going.  When you're fudging your numbers down to keep the fire marshals from having a collective stroke, you might want to start considering capping membership.

WorldCon is major, but not nearly as ridiculously BIG as things like D*C and SDCC

Hooray for SLCC! :D

...which I would give my left foot to be able to attend. THE GUEST LIST, SWEET HARMONY, THE GUEST LIST.

"Having an aura of menace is like having a pet weasel, because you rarely meet someone who has one, and when you do it makes you want to hide under the coffee table." --Lemony Snicket

You are referencing the Man With a Beard but no Hair, and the Woman With Hair but no Beard, I assume?

Whales and walruses, as defined by Moby Dick:

the whale is a fish...the whale differs from other fish...lungs and warm blood, whereas all other fish are lungless and cold blooded. ...a whale is a spouting fish with a horizontal tail. ... A walrus spouts much like a whale, but the walrus is not a fish, because a walrus is amphibious

Basically they had no concept of aquatic mammals at the time of Herman Mellvile. Edited by The Honor Spren

I am indeed.

Yep. And Melville assumed that every person in England and America at the time had always wanted to know everything there was to know about whales and whaling, because that book is roughly 15% story, 85% WHALING INFO DEAR PASSIONS MAKE HIM STOP TELLING ME ABOUT WHALES!

Oh, they totally did.  Melville just disagreed vehemently, and used Moby Dick as a platform to spout his fishy opinion to the world.

I didn't get the archivist job in Cheyenne, but I just applied for a job as a children's librarian in Park Ridge, IL. Which I only just now discovered is a suburb of Chicago.

-_- Maybe Steelheart has a spot for children's librarians in his forthcoming regime.

Ugh, my brain is being drained by all this training document stuff.  Rewriting all the things.

There's this annotation function in Microsoft Word that lets you make comments on things that won't make it into the final document.  Only the training & documentation team will see them.  So I've started making them entertaining.  Nothing major, just stuff that makes an otherwise dry process go a little smoother.

Except for one thing.

I...might've written a limerick about fonts and snuck it into one of the documents.

...I blame Brandon Sanderson.
