Slowly making my way through The Last Continent. It started off a little heavier than the previous Rincewind books, and I am a little busy these days, but after how good Interesting Times was, I have high hopes.

At some point I will probably need to take a break from the Discworld and read Peter V. Brett's The Skull Throne. But that's in the future.

So I am about 50 pages into The Martian, and aside from the language, and it is quite good.

I just finished Hunter, the latest Superhuman book by Michael Carol. His books are very good so far, YA, any of you who have really enjoyed the Reckoners would probably like them. Start with the Quantum Prophecy trilogy (they start fairly average, but Carol's skill grows) and then continue to the Superhuman prologue series.

I really liked The Martian. Looking forward to the movie too.

Just finished Steelheart and reading Firefight now. I didn't know if I'd like these non-cosmere books but I should have trusted Brandon he hasn't let me down yet.

Before that finished Ready Player One I really liked this a lot.

I finished The Blade Itself too sorry to all the fans it just didn't do much for me.

Ok so I have all but the first Malanzar: Book of the Fallen books and have heard that the first few books are fairly standalone. Would it be ok for me to read the second book first or should I wait a month for the first book to come in?

BTW Ready Player One is awesome. I read it when it first came out  still have fond memories of it. I'm currently reading the Throne of Glass series. Anyone who enjoyed Mistborn would enjoy it (though the Throne of glass series is more YA in most cases).

I had to stop reading Eye of the World

again.

I am sick of school work. I have to read Things Fall Apart. Do not like it.

I liked Things Fall Apart when I read it for school, but then, compared to most of the other books I had to read for world lit, it was a masterpiece, so it might just be that I had very low expectations and it was able to scoot over them.

So far, I don't like the way its told. There doesn't seem to be a clear plot, the timeframe moves around so much that its confusing, and the style itself doesn't appeal to me. I like the culture in it, and reading a book by someone who's actually from that culture, but I don't feel like it was delivered as well as it could have been.

You should definitely read Alcatraz next, they are more made for a younger audience, but they are still pretty good.

Funny you should mention that I just ordered the first two from Amazon. I'm planning on reading them with my son. Need to start working on another generation of Sanderson fan.

Definitely wait for Book 1. 3 won't make a lot of sense without 1, and 2 continues a couple of things from 1. Reading Malazan out of sequence can be a bad idea.

Name of the Wind. 'falls asleep', Chapter 5, nothing happened yet. 50 pages in... but I survived Robert Jordan, I can survive this...

It's a kinda slow start but gets a lot better. Second book was meh for me but I liked the name of the wind.

I'm almost done with The Magicians and not sure what I think. It feels like a rip off of Harry Potter and Chroncals of Narnia just rated R. I've heard the second and third books are better I'll at least give the second a chance.

This is pretty much it, only I believe Lev Grossman did it not as a ripoff, but to show a different direction the genre can take tropes that have become standard by now (e.g. the school of magic, the chosen one, the secret world, etc). I don't know if it has become evident yet, but by the time you finish the first book you should realize that this is not another Harry Potter or Narnia book. It takes those series, kicks them in the genital area, and then proceeds to kick them in the kidneys. Repeatedly.

It's okay, I felt similarly during most of the first book. I thought the second one was a bit of a letdown, but for entirely different reasons. The third one was an improvement over the second one overall, with strong ending. I am not unhappy I read the series, though at times it didn't feel the most exciting or original literature in the world...

You and I have very different opinions.  The second book was my favorite.  Basically all of the Julia chapters are amazing.  easily better than all the rest, in my mind.

I just finished Throne of Glass today, I almost did not because it slowed down a lot from the middle towards the end. But it got significantly better towards the last 50 pages.

I actually liked The Emperors Soul al lot more than Elantris. I hope we get to see more Forging in another book someday.

My biggest Sanderson surprise (that I would like it) was the Reckoners books I just finished them can't wait for Calamity.

I, and most people I know who have read the Cosmere works, generally consider Elantris to be the weakest one.  Still enjoyable, but the others are better.
