Unodus he/him Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) Turukseed considered the potato thoughtfully. What was the meaning of this unexpected gift? Was it poisoned, a trap? Was it a symbol of goodwill, a message? Or perhaps Hadrian was simply winding the other nobles up. Regardless, Turukseed wasn't entirely sure how to apply the mysterious plant. If Hadrian had intended them to eat it, he would have cooked it before he sent it. If he wanted the gift to be passed on, or to spark some sort of moral based actions- he would have hinted so. After a few more minutes thinking, Turukseed made his conclusion aloud- "I shall start a personal allotment, a garden starting just with just this potato. A man needs a hobby outside of his work, and its important for nobles to remember the values of life- a garden is a productive way of enforcing those ideals. If it is a trap, I won't fall into it- if it is intended to be passed on, I will have plenty to share. But first, to business..." With that, Turukseed put down the potato and reached for his seal so he could authorize his latest order. I've decided to not make Trying for an Heir my public action, to appease the current arguments against overusing it. Action 1 Who? - Turukseed Uethorn, House Lord What? - Uethorn is allocating 6 MP on Luthadel Public Law Enforcement in an effort to earn the favor of the local Skaa Where? - In Luthadel When? - Second action Why? - Partially to win the trust of the people of Luthadel, and to also keep crime down (since we're in an era of war and struggle to allocate food- I assume there's a lot of conflict to deal with) Edited June 27, 2015 by Unodus 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Right. . . Action one, trying for an Heir (Male name Fortis, Female Name Fortuna)
little wilson she/her Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Don't have time to RP currently, so I'm just going to do the action. Who: Lady Kyara Wilson acting in her capacity of House Lady What: Building a canal Where: Luthadel to Tremredare When: Action period 1 Why: To create a trade route between Luthadel and Tremredare for faster and easier passage of goods and services within the Final Empire. Also, after Farrsolin's declaration of raising his canal taxes, as owner of the canals to Urteau, Fadrex, and Austrex (and soon to be Tremredare), House Wilson would like to say that we do not believe in, nor do we condone, extortion. Feel free to ship your goods from where'er you may be in whatever dominance you call home to Luthadel using our canals. Fairness and Equality for All Nobles. That is House Wilson's motto. 3
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 I wanted to do RP for this post, but my parents distracted me with dinosaurs. . . Action two: Who: The Armed forces of House Tormander. What: Conquering the norther city of Tathwingden When: G3, T3, A2 Why: To fulfill certain promises, to further the glory of TLR, to start the Terris Subjugation, to make Money, and to prove that I can.
Unodus he/him Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Out of interest, who owns each channel? I mean, in practical terms it couldn't be a secret because they're used by all the houses (to transport goods)- right?
Wyrmhero he/him Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 Out of interest, who owns each channel? I mean, in practical terms it couldn't be a secret because they're used by all the houses (to transport goods)- right? Really, the only reason it's public as to whether or not they have been built is just because they're unique buildings (I'm only allowing one canal and road from Luthadel to another city, and one canal and road to a Dominance). Otherwise, it would be hidden information as well. Essentially you can think of it as being a transport company set up by a House (or by another company owned by a House), and the person who really owns the company is hidden away. The Turn will end in four hours and forty minutes.
Blank Fate Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Cyrus' feet were propped upon his desk as he leafed through the reports from the scouts and runners that had filtered back to him from the Eastern Dominance. Now this was something he could appreciate, and engage with - it had been many years now since he had ever fought below another's banner, and by now his life as one of Rashek's nobles was far greater in scope than his previous calling had ever been. But reading military reports and surveys, imagining what sights the writers' eyes must have seen... that had been what Cyrus had missed the most. And the reports themselves were not without merit, either...Who: Cyrus Artorius, on his authority as House Lord What: Constructing a mine Where: The Eastern Dominance, at the site uncovered during the expedition When: Generation 1, Turn 3, Action 1 Why: To take advantage of the discovery made during the expedition 1
Orlok Tsubodai Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Who: Lord Tekiel What: Constructing a canal between the Western Dominance and Luthadel Where: Western Dominance When: Generation 1, Turn 3, Action 1 Why: To establish a foothold in the canal trade and to prevent extortion by Lord Farrsollin
Aonar he/him Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Crap. Completely forgot when this turn ended. Well, I guess no RP from me this week, either. Got a little sidetracked. Who: Lord Izenry What: Constructing a Canal between Tathingdwen and Luthadel. Where: The straightest line possible between Tathingdwen and Luthadel, I'd imagine. When: This is my second action this turn. Why: Financial gain, and establishing a route for trade and the shipment of goods. Edited June 28, 2015 by Aonar Faileas
Renegade he/him Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Running a House was no easy task for Renea. Over the course of years and years, it seemed like she was getting nowhere closer to defeating Rashek. Sitting at her office in Keep Gardre, Renea turned to her son, Erinald. “Running a House is not easy,” she said to him. “And eventually, this will be your responsibility.” Erinald frowned. He hadn’t really ever believed that he was next in line to run an entire House of nobles. For most children, it would’ve been a dream to be in such a position. For Erinald, it was reality. And reality was unfortunate. Renea smiled wanly, looking out her window out at the vast expanse of Luthadel. The city had grown over the years, and for a time, Renea wondered if what Rashek had done was actually the right thing. But on the other hand, was the death of thousands, the loss of dozens of great kingdoms and histories, justified in making a single, expansive Empire? “The Lord Ruler,” Renea told her son, “is not to be trusted.” Erinald looked at Renea inquisitively, but said nothing. Quiet one, isn’t he? Renea thought. At least we shan’t have to teach him to hold his tongue. “The Lord Ruler,” Renea explained, “took all of the land that you’ve seen, from Luthadel to Seran, to Urteau, and made it his own. He claims that we ‘rent’ this land from him, that it is rightfully his, for defeating the Deepness. He may have saved humanity, but he also enslaved it. Does that sound fair?” Erinald shook his head. “It isn’t fair,” Renea nodded. “But it doesn’t mean that it is definite. The Lord Ruler cannot rule forever, as he claims. All things must come to an end, eventually. And when it comes time for the Lord Ruler’s fall, it’ll be your job to build us up again. Make an empire that can prosper for eternity, where there is no deceit or corruption.” “That… that seems hard,” Erinald stated bluntly. Renea looked at her son. “Yes… yes, of course, you are right. It definitely will be very difficult, and defeating the Lord Ruler will probably be the easiest part of the process. Afterwards, there will be a struggle for power, a war unlike any have ever seen. One day, you will learn how you can win such a war. Not with swords and shields, but with your tongue and mind.” Renea stared out of the window again, at the giant hill of spires, Kredik Shaw. "The best way to win a war," she said, "is to not fight in it at all." EDITED: Action 1 House Gardre is setting up a plantation just south of Luthadel, in order to help provide fine food for the House, and to sell off surplus goods for a profit over time. I'll change that in-thread as well. Edited June 28, 2015 by Renegade 3
Adamir he/him Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Back a bit earlier than I expected. Note to my anonymous allies; I forgot to mention in my last action that my canal extortion (I'll stop using the term 'tax' outside of rp) doesn't apply to you. EDIT: As I'm guessing infamy stacks if you keep repeating an action, I'll cancel the extortion. Not sure if that takes an action at the moment. Edited June 28, 2015 by Adamir
Wyrmhero he/him Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) Generation 1: Turn 4 Lord Tormander gently urged his horse on fowards, its hooves striking the road in time with the steeds behind him. He was at the head of his army, and feeling rather good about the assault that was to get underway as soon as they saw the city walls. He had brought a decent number of his own men, plus the Koloss, and that wasn't even all the preparations he had made for this. The army crested the hill, and Tathingdwen was in sight. So, too, was another army. "What?" Lord Tormander asked, hardly daring to believe what he was seeing. He burnt tin, and suddenly he could make out the heraldry on the flags. "Izenry!" he muttered under his breath. "Lord Izenry. Bastard. Who told him?!" He asked, rounding on his second-in-command. The man spluttered a little, trying to placate the angry Mistborn, but before either of them could calm down, their attention was drawn away. A coin hit the ground before them, followed by Lord Izenry. The man smiled at his counterpart, equal parts surprised and smug. "Why, Lord Tormander! This is a pleasant surprise." "Save it, Izenry," Tormander replied, unable to disguise the bitterness in his voice. "Why are you here?" "I thought it was our duty to the Lord Ruler to expand his empire?" Izenry replied, affecting confusion. "Tathingdwen has repeatedly turned down his order that they join us, so... Well, they have to be made to see reason, yes?" "...I suppose," Tormander admitted, scowling. "Fine. We'll conquer it together. With both our armies, and with two Mistborn, it won't take too long before they realise the futility of their resistance." * Lord Farrsolin looked over a map in a room in the Fortress Seran. "There are too many things on here..." he muttered, before brushing aside the little village markers and representations of troops. He smiled at the clear and barren map. "That looks much better, don't you think?" "My lord?" One of his tacticians asked. "What do you mean?" "The areas around Seran," Lord Farrsolin clarified. "Burn them, take whatever's worthwhile, and send the people to The Lord Ruler. With our compliments, of course." * In a tent out in the Southern Dominance, Lord Erikell stood hunched over a map as well, this one much less detailed than the one in Seran Fortress, but every bit as important to him. "My lord?" "Yes, what is it?" Erikell asked, as he waved the man to allow him in. "More complaints from the troops?" "A few, my lord. We've been out here so long, taking over these farmlands, and... Well, if we were fighting a proper army, we could kind of see why, but... All we're doing is forcing villages to obey us. It's depressing the men." "You can tell the men that we are almost finished," Lord Erikell said. "It will not be long before we are home, I assure you of that. Before that, however, we have this area here to claim," he waved at a part of the map. "More fertile land. I think it is better in the hands of House Erikell than some pointless skaa farmer, don't you? In the long run, the troops will understand why they are here. Now, go reassure them." "...Yes, my lord," the man nodded. * "Find!" The servant sighed, but obeyed, and was at Lord Urbain's side in a heartbeat. "My Lord?" "Find me a glass of wine," Lord Urbain commanded. "...There is one in your hand, My Lord." "Excellent! Good work. You're dismissed until after the tasting has completed." Find sighed and walked off quickly, before his master changed his mind. Lord Urbain, meanwhile, walked over to the host of this little festival, Lord Penrod. "Lord Penrod," he said with a chuckle as he barely avoided spilling wine on his shirt. "How go things?" "Very well, thank you, Lord Urbain," Penrod nodded. "We are just about to start the testing itself." He looked a little closer at Lord Urbain. "Are you nervous? Worried your wine won't win? Well, don't worry. I'm sure the judges will realise the quality of it is beyond measure." "They'd better," Lord Urbain muttered, before tipping his glass back and finishing it off with a gulp. "That's what I'm paying them for." * Tathingdwen is now a part of The Final Empire! The following canal trade routes have been built: Luthadel to Tremredare, Luthadel to Eastern Dominance, Luthadel to Southern Dominance, Luthadel to Western Dominance. I believe this makes all Canals claimed I have been informed at least two are still available. * The following children have been born: Cienthe Uethorn (female), Raine Artorius (female), Dido Tekiel (female), Noerin Izenry (female). Araris Valerian he/him Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Hadrian relaxed in his armchair, having just penned advertisements to the rest of the nobility. Now hopefully somebody would be interested in his Dueling Canes. After all, to fight against allomancers, wooden weapons should be the ticket.
Adamir he/him Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Mennet Farrsolin Lord Farrsolin put both hands on his balcony railing, trying to steady his own weight. He squinted through a pair of thick spectacles, watching hundreds of small dots gather around Seran. A similar number of armed men held them back, though the only distinction was a slight glint of sunlight reflected on their helmets. Of course, the invaders were only a small fraction of the skaa in the Eastern Dominance, but even they came close to outnumbering his own men. But everything would still go to plan. The skaa outrage was anticipated; he would have been disappointed if they just let him get away with looting their lands and burning their homes. "Push them back," he sighed to the Captain of the Guard. She nodded, then set off down the stairs at a brisk jog. Next, Lord Farrsolin turned to his chief adviser, a man more aged, and with a back more bent, than Farrsolin himself - if such a thing were even possible. "M'lord," he croaked through a thick Jeher accent, "if I might ask, what was the point of this? The looting? The burning?" "What do you do," Farrsolin whispered, "when you have countless miles of countryside, perfect for farming, but which residents squabble over like their neighbors are planning to come over with shovels and steal their worthless dirt?" He raised his voice, lifting a hand gnarled and worn by time. "Worthless! There is literally too much farmland to count! "Before I gave the order, I walked with my guardsmen from the Central Dominance border to Seran. I found not one, but three skirmishes between dozens of peasants, all fighting over who owned which worthless weeds were growing on some worthless patch of dirt. If I were a cruel man... if I were a crueler man, I would have these skaa butchered. I would bring in migrant workers from the Central Dominance, workers which had already been beaten and whipped into shape, workers who wouldn't squabble over land. But instead, I will melt down the blunt, inefficient hammer these skaa are. I will remake them in a better image, one which values efficiency above all else." He paused, letting the words sink in. "How... how exactly will you do that?" "First," Farrsolin growled, "I will wait until the rest of my forces come in from their border patrols - I should have a few hundred more men by tomorrow morning. By tomorrow evening, I will have routed this rabble back to the countryside. And by the next morning, the builders will have gotten to work. "Eight fields to a plantation, four hovels per field, fifty skaa to a hovel. Re-use stone buildings in close proximity as hovels, build from wood those that aren't. Make them well insulated - we can't have workers freezing to death in the night. Lord Erikell had useful ideas, though he took them too far. He pushed his skaa, and his men, to breaking point. I intend to bend mine, but not break them. I will bend them into a shape more useful, then leave that as my legacy. A skaa plantation." Through the uncountable wrinkles, his adviser gave a look of skepticism. "The skaa will never agree." "Their opinions don't matter. I once heard the words of a great man, one who trusted me to advise him on moral matters. I told him to do what was right. Do you know what he told me? 'One day, some future scholar may name me a tyrant who used a prophecy for his own gains. But for now, only one truth matters; I'm the one with the armies.' For decades, I thought he was mad. I was among his most vocal opponents. But now... I see that he was right. I am in control of well trained, well disciplined legions, whose numbers swell by the day. The skaa don't get a say in this." Action Summary Who: Mennet Farrsolin, in his capacity as House Lord. What: Building skaa plantations. When: Turn 4, action 1. Where: The recently ravaged countryside around Seran. Why: To create a weak-minded workforce to provide food for the rest of the Final Empire. Out of charater note How many soldiers does each MP point represent? 2
Wyrmhero he/him Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Out of charater note How many soldiers does each MP point represent? It's a little nebulous. There's not a soldier-to-MP ratio, as your Martial Prowess also includes things like the skills of your soldiers, your House's ability to gather information, stuff like that. You also wouldn't take your entire force somewhere for a simple thing like burning down skaa villages, for example. So it's a bit up in the air. Edited June 29, 2015 by Wyrmhero 1
Adamir he/him Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) To Lord Penrod My days are coming to a close. Death is on the horizon; time has taken everything from me, and will soon beckon me to leave this world. It has taken most of my sight, it has taken most of my hearing, and most importantly, it has taken my reflexes. I am not half the man I used to be; the man I was before Rashek's ascension would have been disgusted. The man I was just two decades ago would have been disappointed. I plan to leave a legacy behind, but I am running out of time. And so, I come to you. You considered yourself a historian, even before the Ascension. You maintain your tradition even now, recording the history of the Final Empire. And so I make a request; write my biography. There is no one I would rather choose to remain unbiased, and deliver the facts and motivations as they are. All I ask is that you keep to your reputation. Yes, I have committed atrocities; I ask you to consider the benefit to the Empire those atrocities resulted in, along with their costs. Yes, at times I worked for my own selfish agenda. I ask you to record the consequences of those actions, in their entirety, with nothing left out. All I ask is that you wait until my death - I still have a few months left, and I intend to at least try to secure my legacy before them. I will answer any questions truthfully, unless they jeopardize my allies, should you ask. Yours Truly, Mennet Edited June 29, 2015 by Adamir 1
Araris Valerian he/him Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Lord Farrsolin, I will consider your request in the coming days. I myself know that the time for my son Arandar to wield the resources of my own house is fast approaching. I recognize the moral dilemmas you have faced, for when one acts in the name of the Lord Ruler, a sliver of divinity itself, can one be considered immoral? Yet perhaps the rest of Infinity has a different idea of what is right and wrong. I think I will open an offer to all of the Lords and Ladies to have their stories written out. I suspect any who take up my offer will have their Reputation increase noticeably among the other houses. Just send me a missive at some point outlining my own benefits in the arrangement. Luthadel Historian, Hadrian Action 1 Who: Lord Hadrian himself What: Writing a Biography for Lord Farrsolin Why: To show the world and future generations his history and the reasoning behind his actions When: First Action Where: Imperial Archive Anyone that wants to have their biography included send me an offer, I won't ask for much. Also, this is a question for Wyrm: can you do large deals like this for one action, where each player has an opportunity to respond and trade? Edited June 30, 2015 by Araris Valerian 2
Wyrmhero he/him Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 Also, this is a question for Wyrm: can you do large deals like this for one action, where each player has an opportunity to respond and trade? You can trade as much as you want with a single player in one Action. 2
Araris Valerian he/him Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Bother. Well then, sorry folks, but only Adamir gets a biography, it seems. I'll edit my action to reflect that. 1
Adamir he/him Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 You could also write biographies for future favors - if they break those contracts, it would make them appear less trustworthy to other players, and you don't need to give up an action point for it.
Araris Valerian he/him Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) Hadrian was a bit upset. He had been trying to negotiate some trade deals, but the current economy was too unwieldy. He could sell his lumber for a profit, but then it would cost the other House just as much as going to some random vendor from another city. But it he made his prices competitive, then he would earn no more than if he gave the products to a less threatening buyer. The nobility needed a new level of currency so that both sides of such business deals could profit. For that purpose, Hadrian decided that Books, from his Archive, would make a perfect unit of currency. They were worth something on their own, but far more as a representative of half of the units currently traded about by the houses. And of course, since he came up with the idea, he could turn a small profit off of it for House Penrod. Action 2: Who: Lord Penrod Where: Imperial Archive What: Establishing a bank of sorts. Basically, this is supposed to allow everyone to use 1/2 units of wealth, so that both sides of a trade deal can benefit more than if they had used NPCs. Because as I see it, raw goods earn 2 wealth when sold to NPCs, and cost 3 when purchased from them. So only one side can win in a deal, making trades very limited in their usefulness. If Wyrm doesn't want to keep track of half wealths, then I am offering everyone the opportunity to buy in ratios of 2 Books from me at the cost of 1 Wealth, which can then be traded like anything else, and later back to me at the rate of 2 Books to 1 Wealth. As for me, I expect to gain a bit more passive income from my archive as a result of people visiting more often to exchange books. It's almost like a library now! When: Action 2 Why: Kinda explained about, but people can use books as a 1/2 unit of wealth Looks like this isn't going to happen Edited July 1, 2015 by Araris Valerian

It's just additional fiddly bits which make it harder for me to figure things out. The issue with there not being much benefit between trading between NPCs and PCs will be alleviated a little at the start of the next Generation. 1
Araris Valerian he/him Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) Ok. Well, that was mostly what I was going for, although I was/am offering to keep track of the .5 wealths myself. And they wouldn't really be Wealth so much as a placeholder. Edited July 1, 2015 by Araris Valerian
Quiver he/him Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 No time to roleplay, sorry; sudden, unexpected load of "homework". Turn 4 Who: Lord Tydan Queade Where: Imperial Court What: Tydan wants to establish a courthouse, with himself and his heirs as the judges When: Action 1 Why: As of right now, I assume that crime within the Final Empire is either being dealt with by the nobles, or by the Lord Ruler directly. Obviously, the former can lead to corruption -houses not policing themselves, or being sneaky and underhanded tactics to get an advantage- while the latter is time consuming for Rashek. What Tydan is sugegsting is letting House Queade be the administrators of the law, at least so far as criminal acts are concerned. As for why House Queade? Well, between rebuilding his city, supplying him armies and selling his daughter into slavery offering Raynah as a servant, I think Tydan has probably earned a reputation as being loyal to the Empire, and at least somewhat impartial, politically. He should also be (relatively) well-liked by the skaa, considering he rebuilt the city and all. While those qualities may not be reflected in his heir's, it's at least a starting point to establish a more long-term solution to beauracracy than having Rashek handle it all personally. As for what I as a player, might get from it? It's a pretty influential position, and I can think of a few benefits that being the Chief Justice In the Land, with the approval of The Lord Ruler would grant- not least of which is the fact that it does kind of shoot my own personal stock up a bit if I can secure that title.
