TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Okay, guys, I need your help with something. I'm about finished with Way of Kings, and while I know I'm going to read Words of Radiance, I have a problem: You. No, no, I didn't mean it like that! Please stop crying! I love you guys! Not in a creepy way or….anything…. I'm not helping, am I? Sigh. Let me start over. I'm almost finished with Way of Kings, and I'm loving it. I know I'll read the sequel. However, this forum has a lot of fans. And a lot of fans means a lot of people who read the same books, and a lot of people who read the same books means a lot of people who talk about the same books. While browsing the forums—even carefully avoiding spoiler topics—I come across people talking about things. Things like Stick, and a Dor, and Wax and Wayne and everything that happens after the last original Mistborn book. And frankly, I'm stinkin' curious. So! Vote in the poll and tell me what mysteries I should unravel next! Do I read Words of Radiance and learn about this stranger called Stick? Do I read Elantris and learn what a Dor is and why a door is too cool for a second O? Or do I finally stop lazing around and finish the original Mistborn trilogy so I can find out who the heck Wax and Wayne are? Vote! Let your voice be heard! I believe in you! 7
Esaias he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Words of Radiance is my favorite book by Brandon, the best he's written so far in my opinion. If you loved The Way of Kings I would suggest Words of Radiance next. If you want to take a break from massive thousand pagers, I would say Elantris then the Mistborn Trilogy. They're all great honestly.
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Warbreaker! Warbreaker doesn't get enough love, despite having Brandon's favorite romance, the awesomest Sword, and a Drunken Money God.
Kobold King he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Warbreaker! Warbreaker doesn't get enough love, despite having Brandon's favorite romance, the awesomest Sword, and a Drunken Money God. She's read that one already, though. Remember the conversations about how insane a Returned Funtimes would be?
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 What's your point? I've read Warbreaker more than any other two Sanderson books combined. But fine, if you really want to read a new book, try The Emperor's Soul. 1

Iredomi Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Sixth of the Dusk if you haven't because that is nice and short and pretty interesting. But Well of Ascension for next proper one I would say.
the Gleeman he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Finish the original Mistborn series then read Elantris. (I would say Wheel of Time next since it is partially Sanderson... but I don't think it truly counts )
Winds Alight she/her Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I'd recommend Words of Radiance while Way of Kings is still fresh. The four years between those two were bad for my memory.
Curiosity he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Elantris and Well of Ascension are both a bit slow, but they are worth it. Truly. Let's hold off on WoR, just because there isn't a sequel coming out for that one just yet.
Young Bard he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I think Warbreaker's the only major component that you should probably know for Cosmere tidbits before WoR, but since it's the cosmere's connecting grounds, I would read it later. Of the 4, I would go Elantris, simply because it introduces the Cosmere and a few of it's aspects. WoA begins to discover more about Shards, their properties, and their limits. While not having a direct affect on Elantris, it still is nice to go in sort of ignorant. Also, the small thingo's (sorry, memory blank on the word) that precede each chapter may have some mention of Sel, I'm not sure.
Quiver he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I'd recommend Words of Radiance. Mistborn is getting some more sequels at the end of the year, so I'd actually suggest putting WoA at the end of your list; if you time things right, you could probably jump straight from the old trilogy and hit the new one running, while still keeping things fresh for the Stormlight Archive. Besides, I want to be able to talk about stuff that happens in those books to you.
Bort he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I'd recommend Elantris, followed by WoR. As Quiver suggested, leave off reading Mistborn until the end of the year, when we're expecting Bands of Mourning to be released. Then you can do the first trilogy, and the Wax/Wayne trilogy all together.
Edgedancer he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I'd say don't read Elantris next. Most off all because the 10th aniversarry version is coming out soon and you might as well wait until it's there. Plus, while not a bad book, the fact that it is Brandon's first published one shows. Which leaves us with WoA and WoR. I'd say read WoR first. It's the better book, you have all the knowledge from other books to fully appreciate it and you still have WoK fresh in your mind. Should you decide to read Mistborn first read HoA right along, given that it does have some nice tid-bits on relamatic. 2
Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I'd say don't read Elantris next. Most off all because the 10th aniversarry version is coming out soon and you might as well wait until it's there. This. Elantris is interesting, but since we are getting an updated version and it really does not add anything (yet) to the enjoyment of Stormlight like Mistborn and Warbreaker, I would say read the original Mistborn trilogy first. Spoiler alert: Stick is a stick! 1
king of nowhere Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I'm quite confused. you are one of the main posters in this site, and you haven't read all the sanderson books yet? how can that be? 3
Kobold King he/him Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 I'm quite confused. you are one of the main posters in this site, and you haven't read all the sanderson books yet? how can that be? Oh my gosh king of nowhere you can't just ask someone why they haven't read all of Sanderson's books. 3
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 22, 2015 Author Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) I'm quite confused. you are one of the main posters in this site, and you haven't read all the sanderson books yet? how can that be? Because when I was a little receptionist, back in graduate school, my teachers would pile homework so heavily upon me that I could barely think! I had little time for reading, but still I had a quest: to find the perfect book about superpowers. So I read, and many of those books were awful--really, you don't know what awful is until you've read some of those, Perry the Judgerpus--but then one day I found Steelheart. It was as if I could hear angels singing as I read it, it was so good! Well, not literally because that would've been distracting, but you get the idea. I loved it so much that I immediately sought out everything else Brandon Sanderson ever wrote. But alas! I was still in graduate school, and still laden with homework, which prevented me from really reading everything in one sitting, as I wanted. But now that I have my degree I shall read everything in the Tri-State Area! Edited May 22, 2015 by TwiLyghtSansSparkles 8
vineyarddawg Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Since you're fresh off of WoK, I'd definitely read WoR next (though once I found out that Brandon almost named it "The Book of Endless Pages," that's always my headcanon name for WoR now). WoR is, without question, my favorite Sanderson book, and it's even better when you're fresh off of WoK, so you remember everything that came before what you're reading now. I also agree with other posters who have said that after WoR, you can tackle the rest of Mistborn once the Wax & Wayne book are out, so you can read straight through those, and then read the 10th anniversary version of Elantris once it's out.

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 23, 2015 Author Posted May 23, 2015 Roughly 24 hours later…. The votes are in! With 16 for WoR and 12 for WoA, it looks like I'll be returning to Roshar next. Thanks for helping, guys! In thanks, please enjoy this gif of a pug puppy discovering mirrors: 3
WayneSpren he/him Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Mistborn 4. Wayne is too funny to be ignored.
king of nowhere Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 huh, i had assumed from your reputation and your post count that you had been a long-time sanderfan. now i see that you joined us one year ago. and you made 8000 posts in that time I upvoted just for that. congratulations! also congratulations on finishing your graduation despite reading most of sanderson books and having that kind of activity in the forum. 3
