Orlion Blight he/him Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Got the hard drive out of the personal laptop that failed and turned it into an external hard drive. I'm copying music, photos and notes to another (older) laptop so that they exist in two places. Later, I'll hook up my massive external hard drive and back up there as well. So, I'll have to get a new laptop, but that purchase can be postponed for a bit!

I use CrashPlan, that gives me unlimited storage for one machine, for something like $5 a month. I have > 500Gb safely backed up, somewhere safe.

Sunbird she/her Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 I'm in complete shock. I just finished placing orders to buy/rent all the textbooks my schedule says I'll need for this upcoming semester, and I only spent $81. That's INCLUDING shipping. I have NEVER spent so little on textbooks for one semester. 2
Chaos he/him Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 I'm going to Japan next year!!! I am so excited. Now I just need to, you know, plan it all. But I definitely am going in 2017. 5

I'm only familiar with Tokyo and Chiba, and a little bit with Ishinomaki, where I did some cleanup after the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami. jW

So I could go anywhere. Probably most places that are more English friendly (so cities), as it's been too long since I've taken Japanese and forgotten almost everything. It's kind of scary to fully plan the trip yourself... But I'm excited! 1

I'd make sure you spend a good bit of time in Tokyo, but also visit Kyoto and one of the areas in both the south and north if you can. Hiroshima or Nagasaki too, though you probably don't need to go to both. In Tokyo, Akihabara is fun (the electronics district), Harajuku (fashion and crazy costumes), the fish markets, Asakusa shrine (tons of cheap trinkets in front, but the shrine is way back in there). If you're not claustrophobic, you can try a capsule hotel; we used a youth hostel once that was nice too, or there are plenty of more regular hotels. Try every kind of food you can. Even the non-Japanese restaurants. Japanese food to be sure you get: Okonomiyaki, Miso Ramen (if you're okay with spice, get the red kind), Tsukiyaki, anything sold on a stick at street vendors (usually beef or pork, but sometimes octopus or other things), Takoyaki (octopus fried in batter, served as fried balls). There's more, but those are the ones you might not just run across. Anyways, I happen to really like Japan. jW

Orlion Blight he/him Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Felicidades! As they might say in some neighborhoods in Denver, Colorado.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) We must make certain her first word is "Cosmere." First sentence, "And then Nighthound died." Edited August 23, 2016 by TwiLyghtSansSparkles 2
WayneSpren he/him Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) Congratulations, @Voidus! Also, I would think you had better teach her to say "I am a stick" first. You know, priorities. Now that I can find the picture... Would it be annoying if I used it, thus caused everyone to think I was you and give me upvotes? Edit: This post gave me my 1000th upvote. Thank you, "someone". Doc12 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I took my the first step of obtaining my driving licence today, the rules and regulations of the road test. Its a fifty test question where you're tested on everything from signs, to the different traffic acts, to the different penalties for different acts, to scenarios where you have to choose the correct outcome or action. Man I was nervous. Turns out? 49/50 YASSSSS 3
