TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Well, if and when Sunburst becomes canon, we may be looking at some serious destruction. Or if Electro is given much free rein. Or if Electro and Sunburst fought each other. Whoops... I'll just say I certainly don't mean to come across as taunting in any way. Just... I'm filled with child-like glee at having the sequel to one of my favorite books and am prone to gushing about it. O.o .... Hold me. Oh, no. I knew it was just gushing. I just didn't want to come across as whining about everyone enjoying the book. Also, remember when we made WHIO sound like a nature documentary? I realized today that if Funtimes were an animal, she would be Kevin from Up. 2
Mailliw73 he/him Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 A couple things and I'll keep them spoiler-free: Does anyone have characters in Oregon from Houston? Just curious. You'll see why. A High Epic is defined here as an Epic who can't be killed by conventional means. I think that's the difference between High Eoics and those with PIs. PI Epics can't be killed without their weakness being activated, but High Epics just means that it takes unconventional means to kill them. The only thing I've seen so far that's contradictory is that we have too many "nice" Epics I think.

Mailliw73 he/him Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I don't. That makes everything make a lot more sense. Well, that was contradictory from the beginning, so nothing unusual there. That's not a bad thing. Yeah. I liked that clarification. True.
Kobold King he/him Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 O.o .... Hold me. Oh, no. I knew it was just gushing. I just didn't want to come across as whining about everyone enjoying the book. Also, Prof would have a heart attack at the number of nice Epics in Oregon. @Mailliw: I don't know of any characters from Houston, but the Trattners came from San Diego. 2

Bullets, pepper spray, Nighthound. Oh, but she's smart. She outwits me at every turn. I've tried so many times to smoke her out of that hideous cottage she calls a home, but she's a clever one. I've lost so many Warriors…." It does. "No." "Um, yes?" Prof shook his head, eyes wide. "No. It can't be. Can't be. You—giving indestructible puppies to Portland out of the goodness of your heart? Flashpoint—admiring the soldiers under his watch? Funtimes—kidnapping regular humans and feeding them cinnamon rolls? No. This isn't real. You're faking. All of you—you're faking." Chimera watched Prof as he put a shaking hand to his chest, then moved it to his pocket and put on his goggles. "You're faking. Oregon—it's all one big scam. A trap. I'm burning it down." And that is what really happened in Oregon. 2

Also, Prof would have a heart attack at the number of nice Epics in Oregon. @Mailliw: I don't know of any characters from Houston, but the Trattners came from San Diego. I'm pretty sure he'd self combust. And David would laugh, saying "I told you so!" Until he saw Nighthound and the Trifecta of Terror. Oh. That's just as bad. 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 MHM. AND IT'S RENDERED ME UNABLE TO TURN OFF CAPS LOCK I AM SO SORRY. SO SO SO SO SORRY. I'm going to Walmart tomorrow, and I'm going to spend the time before work reading a few chapters. And then, on Saturday, I am going to spend all day long reading Firefight so I can finally indulge my temptation to view the spoiler board.
mail-mi he/him Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Trifecta of Terror. THAT IS A SURPRISINGLY ACCURATE NAME THAT WE NEED TO CALL THEM FROM NOW ON. EDIT: I'm going to Walmart tomorrow, and I'm going to spend the time before work reading a few chapters. And then, on Saturday, I am going to spend all day long reading Firefight so I can finally indulge my temptation to view the spoiler board. DO SO. YOU WILL LOVE THE ENDING COMPLETELY. AND HATE IT. Kobold King he/him Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I too have finished the book. I've decided I'm going to devote all my time and energy into developing a cryogenic suspension pod. See you guys in Spring 2016. If anyone else is finished and would like to discuss the novel's ramifications for the RP, shoot me a PM.

Mailliw73 he/him Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Ahhhhhhh!! I just don't have enough time in the day! Tomorrow. Tomorrow I should finish. Thursday for sure. If you've finished the book, do not comment on this in any spoilery way: You guys know what would be the coolest thing ever? If we learned what happened in Oregon in this book and Peter had seen this RP and mentioned it to Brandon and he named dropped some of the Epics. If only.

Was there anything that contradicted the RP in a significant way?

Russel is Revolution, the naive but kind person who sees good in everyone and wishes to assist others. Uh... Nathan is... Doug, somehow? And Nighthound is Alpha? I believe this metaphor is going the way of the porridge-brick. 1

But then Funtimes showed up and she was all—SQUIRREL! Hi there." Definitely went the way of the porridge-brick. I think there was one big thing, but the rest were pretty small. Game-breaking big, or something we can work/retcon around? 1

On the other hand, imagining Nighthound with a squeaky voice is doing wonders for my morale. It's... without giving spoilers... Okay, in the spoiler tag I tell you what we learn more about. Not what we learn. What we learn about. In the spoiler tag I tell you which topic of the Reckonerverse is elaborated on in a canonically perilous manner, but I do not divulge any narrative details. Got it? So it's not really spoilery. It's just telling you the basic type of reveal we get. Feel free to either read it or skip it--but know that I divulge nothing of the plot in said spoiler tag. Ready? Here goes. It's about the weaknesses. We are given more info on the pattern to Epic weaknesses, and mail-mi and I have agreed that few of our Epics' weaknesses make sense in light of the novel. Several of mine seem patently ridiculous now, in fact. 1

Well, you can always fall back on Schrodinger's Gun: I think you've only revealed Aldo's weakness in canon, so whichever other ones don't fit, you can change them. I won't judge, nor will I tell anyone. Though I think I saw what you're talking about when I accidentally clicked on a Firefight spoiler thread. (The reason why I am NOT going to the Reckoners forum until I've finished the book. ) If that was accurate, then….I don't think I'll need to change much. Maybe retool Koschei's a bit, but in light of what I read, Funtimes' seems to fit. It doesn't sound game-breaking, though, from what little you told me. 2
Voidus Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Yay other people have finished! What did we all think? Awesomtasticamazingerrifyingly great? On the plus side certain plot-sensitive reveals justify a few Epics I've been holding back for feat their powers would be non-canonical.Anyone else on their second trying-to-catch-all-the-clues read yet? (In case the dozen or so pages of Epics weren't clue enough I can be a bit obsessive at times)

Nighthound finally met his Nightmare Retardant. A few other details will probably wreak havoc with a few Epic's backstories. Once you've finished the book you can lead us through this troubled time, and tell us whether we should retcon everything or defiantly wallow in our non-canonocity. Yay other people have finished! What did we all think? Awesomtasticamazingerrifyingly great? On the plus side certain plot-sensitive reveals justify a few Epics I've been holding back for feat their powers would be non-canonical. Anyone else on their second trying-to-catch-all-the-clues read yet? (In case the dozen or so pages of Epics weren't clue enough I can be a bit obsessive at times) I loved it! Personally I felt Steelheart was a little better, at least in its organization, but I loved the sequel as well. There were a heck of a lot of WHAM moments. I'm considering re-reading both Reckoners books in a row now.
Edgedancer he/him Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I'm of the opinion that Obliteration could curbstomp everyone in Oregon at once, assuming no one set off his weakness. (I don't know what his weakness is at this point.) So you do know already. Welp, here she is: I might edit her a bit once I finish the novel. It's hard to focus on a good ponification when you're aching to get back to reading. He does seem awfully powerful, although I´m with holding complete judgement until I know the complete detail of his powers, especially how fast his danger sense reacts and how far his emergency teleportation range is. By the way don´t tell me. While, I agree that Nighthound would want to get away from him I don´t know why you think he would be to evil for Nighthound´s tastes. You know, I've noticed that as a general rule canon Epics are more powerful than RP Epics. A lot of the characters in Oregon have prime invincibilities or mild offensive powers, but nothing as spectacular as Steelheart's invulnerability + wind control + strength + energy blasts. Ironic, considering our main goal is the complete destruction of a state. Thanks. I'm tempted to do Newton and Obliteration as well, but I've already been away from Firefight for three hours and I don't think I can stay away any longer. That´s what Astoria is for, right? Seriously, our strongest Epics are in backstroy only at this point and I could easily chunk out more Epics of mass destrucion, if I wanted to just kill everthing in Portland. Alas, this is a game, which requires some form of balance. "'Lord Divinity' is a bit much. Master will do." I just read that in Alpha's squeaky voice. …I think I died laughing. Aaaahhhhhh. I see. Well, you can always fall back on Schrodinger's Gun: I think you've only revealed Aldo's weakness in canon, so whichever other ones don't fit, you can change them. Now, I´m wondering how many of mine will get their weakness tanked.
Voidus Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 From my memory I think most of my Epics weaknesses will be fine as they are.I had a similar idea to the pattern of Epic weaknesses though I got it slightly off, so luckily I shouldn't need to change any.
