Pity. They'd have been "totes adorbs," as the kids say. :P

Though honestly, Obliteration is the most destructively psychotic character I've seen in the Reckonerverse yet.

If by "totes adorbs" you mean "she'd dub him a dirty meanieface full of the most lameness in the history of lame and he'd tease out dark!Funtimes in thirty seconds flat," then yes, they would be totes adorbs.

Good Gandhi. This guy is a psychopath's psychopath.

Even leaving aside all the murder he´s to much of a stuck up.

While he´s definetly the most destructive we have at least one Epic that could easily murder him, assuming he doesn´t have another ace. Yet again, don´t tell me.

Corpsemaker, while I´m still in doubt about his power being possible, he could negate Obliteration´s teleportation and after that he´s dead in 5 second flat.

Also, I noticed that his teleportatipn only set in after something dangerous actually happend, i.e. after David shot at him and not when he aimed at him with the intend to shoot. Which means "insta kill" attacks that leave no reaction time might be able to put him down for good.

Sparks, two of the Epics I have over in Astora are at least capable of fighting him off, depending on the above maybe even kill him.

Concerning Obliteration's personality:

I really don't think Obliteration is a "stuck-up"--he struck me as the kind of guy who has a goal, will see that goal completed no matter what, and will remain entirely unphased by anything along the way. If he met Funtimes, he'd probably explain slowly that he was going to kill her and everyone she loves, and would then try to murder her. I don't even think changing his coat pink would enrage him. He is calmly and collectedly insane.

I liked him since he struck me as a very different kind of Epic than Steelheart or Regalia--while they want to rule, all he wants to do is destroy. He wants to destroy the world. And while that may be a corny motivation for some supervillains, Brandon Sanderson handled the trope beautifully.

And by "beautifully," I of course mean that reading about Obliteration made me want to hide under my bedcovers.

Oh you´re absolutely right, I just tried to use the Funtime´s perspective. :P

From her perspective, he is a stuck up meanieface who is so creepy it's like he's trying. She stayed far away from him. Far, far away.

Even when she heard he'd been sitting in the middle of downtown Houston shirtless. Especially then. :P

I can imagine Aldo trying to talk to him before he came to Oregon.

"Hello, good chap! Mind sitting down for a good chat with my assistant and I?"

"And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory."

"...so, is that a yes?"

"And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."

"I'll take that as a yes!"

Remember Sunburst? I realized that she and Obliteration share eerily similar power portfolios. Up to and including the fact that both draw energy from the sun to power their abilities.

I´ll be honest. My happy place for the last day was imaging Epics powerful enough taunting and insulting Obliteration. I wonder how he would react to someone that could outmatch him.

Talking about Revolution, after meeting a couple of people her name doesn´t look that out of place anymore.

I have a feeling that this is what I will hear every time Obliteration makes an appearance.

No. I do not ship it. :o

I like to imagine that was the day Nighthound took an unscheduled and ill-advised trip to Houston.   :P

Mizzy?

That is perfect. Not only does it fit the character, but I might be listening to that piece a lot of times in the future. :D

Nor would I encourage you to.  Hopefully Sunburst wouldn't be quite as destructive or Revelations-spewingly insane. Though I imagine thousands of people would evacuate the city if she decided to go sunbathing in a bikini. :P

Of course! Meeting Nighthound was what set Obliteration over the edge, it all makes sense now!

No, Infinity.

Now, get some religious/omnious latin chanting in the background and we are golden.

What were the details of her powerset again?

Ponderment: how would Obliteration and Koschei react to each other?

Ponderment: how would Obliteration and Koschei react to each other?

My guess: They throw some "I´m a god" lines at each other, Koschei´s being more free form, and the Obliteration nukes him a couple times until he decides to destroy the entirety of the Dalles and move on to a new place.

Now excuse me while I imagine the Metal calling Obliteration a coward and an ant. I just need that from time to time.

Ray + Upgrade + Much longer in Nighthound's presence = Obliteration-level-explosion. :o

Oh. Somehow forgot about that one. :P I should re-read that book.

Sunbursts' powers were a little nebulous and open to change, but essentially the ability to absorb energy from the sun and use it either for projecting bolts of fire or transforming herself into sentient energy. The latter ability was attached to a prime invincibility--she'd shift into her energy form whenever exposed to any form of harm.

Ponderment: how would Obliteration and Koschei react to each other?

Probably not well. I doubt Koschei would have been happy if a shirtless Obliteration waltzed into The Dalles and set himself a lawnchair. And I can't see Obliteration working for an Epic who could neither oppose him or offer him anything of value.

I could see Lightwards descending to Obliteration-levels of insanity after a bunch more deaths.

Do that, it certainly won´t harm you. :P

In that case, depending on how much she can save she might actually be worse.

Nah, Obliteration is to collected for that comparison to work. :P

All of these thoughts are quite interesting indeed. Allow me to ponder them from beneath my bed. Holding my pugs.

Shaking.

...What have I done? :o:P

Sunburst would have a greater ability to oppose the Astoria Epics than Obliteration, certainly. (Which is why there's a possibility of her being my What Happened in Astoria character, if I decide to make her canon. )

Don't worry. Pugs ward away evil. It's a scientific fact. :P

So as long as Sam is holding Protector Pug, Nighthound won't be able to get near her! :D:P

Spoiler alert: pugs are Obliteration's weakness. :P

Of course! How could anyone not see it? :P

Don't go any further if you haven't read at least a quarter of the book.

I'm already beginning to see a problem with Funtimes' and Sightline's teleportation, though. I'm not sure if this will be cleared up in later chapters, but it seems taking people along is impossible in this 'Verse. I mean, the big deal they were making over whether or not Obliteration took objects along consciously or unconsciously seems to imply that taking people along is, if not impossible, then very unusual. I will pay attention to this as the book goes on, but I'm already considering how scenes where she took people along could be edited.

You can guess what the spoiler is about.

It´s possible. The thing I´m more worried about is the high amount of new Epics we have (planned) but I don´t have all the details on that yet.

Seriously? That's a load off my mind. Especially considering, as you pointed out earlier, that the entire turf war began when Sightline trapped CorpseMaker in a wall.

I haven´t noticed anything about some kinds of powers not being possible, yet.

Maybe we should set a few ground rules about what we're willing to retcon. Minor references that Firefight disproves should probably be edited--someone claiming to have visited Houston recently, for instance, should probably be edited to San Antonio or Dallas. However, I think trying to retcon details with massive narrative weight, like Funtimes taking people along with her or Lightwards engaging in necromancy, would only result in a lot of headaches and frustration.

At a certain point we might have to concede that we're in open rebellion against canon, is what I'm saying. :P

Neither have I, but you're farther along than I am. Though, harkening back to your previous post, the fact David said Newcago only saw a new Epic "once every four or five years" does put a damper on introducing Epic!Unicyclist and Epic!Revolution within such close proximity to each other. Especially since Lucy/Scribbler is a fairly new Epic, and Koschei and Reader both got their powers fairly close to one another. Maybe it'll be revealed later on that there are certain "spurts" where a cluster of Epics will gain their powers, and then it'll die down for a while?
