Yeah, fair enough. I can get behind that. I won't change my post, though. I still like how I expressed my opinion.

And stand by insisting you change or delete your post. Forums are organized in threads, topics, that should follow a single main idea. This one's won't be any surprise to you - it's about mapping the cosmere. Your reply is completely and entirely off-topic and therefore should not belong in this thread. And neither should my previous reply to you, for that matter.

@Geekrituque, this is shaping up pretty nicely. I should point out, however, that Roshar (the continent) is located entirely in the southern hemisphere of its planet - which is a bummer, because I don't want you to have to redo all that coloring =\ The Final Empire too is in a weird spot - close to the north pole of Scadrial, I believe. That probably doesn't affect your map as much though.

I know. I was looking at other maps after I finished and I realized Roshar is located too high on the planet. damnation. Oh well. Hope to do a new one each year with updates as new info is attained. The map of Scadrial is difficult because that's literally the only map there is of it. Instead of making up land masses I'll just make that the face of the map for now.

The Final Empire was not on/near the geographical north pole of Scadrial.

While I happen to agree that his comment was made needlessly bombastically, I disagree that it was off-topic. The OPer himself wants to know what the various planets should look like. Someone suggested that Nalthis would have a ton of color, someone else mentioned that we'd only seen T'Telir have a ton of color, and Dent made his comment about what we've seen of Idris. While I fault him in that the manner he expressed himself was a failure of the 17th Shard's general standards of discourse, it was as on-topic as any post could be. He added that he thought that along with the deliberately boring colors, the scenes themselves were boring, which was tangential, but hardly uniquely so on this site.

I'll agree with Outis on this. While I take some small issue with Dent's tone—probably not enough that I'd bother to call it out, but we all have different thresholds—his topic of discussion wasn't offensively tangential.

Respectfully, I want to point out that you have gone off topic before. Every single person on this forum has gone off topic at least once in their lives. I appreciate those who defended me on this (Kurkistan and Elin specifically).

If you have a problem with me personally, please private message me so we can work it out.

As for the map, I do like it so far! It's really cool. You're doing a great job with it :)

Just popping in with a friendly reminder that we should all try to keep our posts fairly civil and polite. On the other hand, if it's not profane, an attack on another member, or in some other way problematic, everyone is free to express their opinion. If there is a genuine problem with a post, please report it rather than calling that person out or anything of that nature. Staff members can take a more unbiased look at the situation and actually resolve problems. Clicking report doesn't hurt anyone, it isn't a black mark on their profile or anything, we just get a little icon that lets us know there's something we might want to look into. If anyone has any further concerns here please feel free to get ahold of the staff and we'll help you out. :)

Moving in a more positive direction, I agree that the maps are looking pretty great. I'm impressed that you've drawn this. Personally, I couldn't freehand anything to save my life.

Any update on this? I'm definitely planning to hang a copy on my wall, once it's finished!

This is very cool! Looks amazing Geekritique.

I wanted to share one tidbit from a question I asked at the Steelheart signing way back. Turns out Taldain is tidally locked with it's sun which is why it is always day on one side and night on the other. Doesn't change your map, but I thought it was a cool stray piece of cosmological info.

Another thing about the map that I just thought of: I have to wonder how far Braize is from Roshar since I'm assuming Kaladin is going to travel there by virtue of Stormlight what with the calculations ran to see how fast he needs to accelerate in order to break orbit.

BY tidally locked - do you mean in a geosynchronous orbit? I tried to put this on Taldain's page on the coppermind wiki and I had to take it down because not everyone had read the book...

Also I remember there being a post about the moon's of Roshar being at LaGrange points - they hd plotted the night skies and the times of Roshar's rotation - might be worth looking at for more info :)

Is it possible that any of the planets take a figure eight like orbit on roshar this could be explained by the ocean stopping them from seeing the second sun it is just a small theory but other planets like yolen we have not seen yet could have this

Maybe talns scar is the star belt, just red-shifted, although I don't think it can be that visible.

stars in the same galaxy won't be affected by red shift in the visible light, otherwise all stars in far edges of Milky Way would be red. color of stars is only a representation of their age and type.

Another point - apparently Braize, Ashyn and Roshar are the only Shard planets in the greater Rosharan System, but there are other planets with some sort of sentient life on...

Posted

So what you're saying is that First of the Sun or Threnody is on Greater Roshar?

Not at all - as far as I am aware, there is no evidence that FotS or Threnody are in the Greater Rosharan System.

If I remember correctly he actually said that the other worlds might have life, but if so it is not sentient.

One completely off-the wall thought: Since roshar orbits a young white star, the spectrum coming from the star would be more blue than it would be in other systems.

Assume Roshar's star is Harvard Class A (X-axis) or Yerkes Type VII. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stellar_classification

So, light coming from other stars would look "red" as compared to the light from your own star.  Roshar and Threnody might be receiving the same spectrum from Taln's scar, but while Threnody would perceive it as "bright", Roshar would percieve it as "red".

There are problems with this, of course, since colors on Roshar seem to match colors on earth.  Plants are "green".  I guess they could actually be what we'd call blue-green, and use a different type of chlorophyll than we do, but--probably a stretch.

edit:yep, I was an idiot about Threnody and Sel.

edit 2: and crud, it's alled the "red rip" on Scadrial, too.  Forget this whole post!

Threnody is not in the same system as Sel! Scroll to the end of the topic - Peter clarified that there was a misunderstanding at the signing, somehow.

There is a WOB saying that Sel and Threnody are in the same system! Here is the thread...

http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/53260-an-interesting-wob-on-sel-and-threnody/

If you read further in that thread Peter posts about how the reporter was mistaken.  He spoke to Brandon about it and Sel and Threnody are /not/ in the same system.

Could it be Red shifted by a really large cadmium or bendalloy bubble...like one a shardholder could create (maybe around a whole system, so that he can speed up time inside it, and let the people there develop some sort of space travel and FTL, so they could travel to a different world purely in the physical realm?

Do we know that a bubble is red hue?
