"He... mm.... He was going with someone else. But he'll be warm."

Last yall saw of him, he was in the burning building

For all y’all know, he’s dead.

She nodded. “That’s important. Very important. If you aren’t warm, you’ll DIE.”

"We'll see."

“No, you’ll see!” She sticks out her tongue and darts away.

The old man cringes slightly. “I’m ever so sorry. Ever since we told her about her brother, she’s been obsessed… why… why can’t she see?” The last part was almost to himself, a morose frustration.

"I did see Nikolas... but I don't know if I saw him make it out of the tavern."

The man shook his head. “Coincidence. There’s no way that he could have survived the accident, unless he crawled through the snow back to town. Along with him, mind you, went our only connection to society. That car was the only safe mode of travel.”

"I'm sorry. Though sometimes it doesn't feel as though there's much left to connect with. We can only hope Jakob will return to us."

"One of the Grey Folk. His absence from this world causes the cold."

The man laughed, the sound joyless. “Does that mean anything though? All the Grey Folk are absent in our plight. Except, as you say, the Still Wind.”

"They wish to help, but as this winter was put into place by one of their own. They are physically unable to help."

A guard was situated on the other side of the wagon, and there were 4 other prisoners with them.

The guard looked at them. “You’re awake. We’re taking you for questioning - currently, we approach a secure facility.”

Kasha let out a groan and brought her head up, squinting at the guard while her head continued to throb. “Questioning why a woman can’t go to have a drink?” she muttered, leaning her head back.

He sighed. “Don’t worry of us, my lady. We’re just… well, we’re a people holding on to a life we don’t deserve.”

“A terrorist attack happened in the building you were in. We want to ask you about some details.”

The guard nodded. “I understand. Just some questions about events not far from where you were when we picked you up.”

Kasha’s expression fell a bit as she sighed and rubbed her eyes. “Yes, of course,” she grumbled as she stared up with hollow eyes, “like I remember that. Not to mention that there’s no better way to ask for ‘some details’ than to hog-tie eyewitnesses and drag them off to chills knows where.”

The soldier stared at here hostilely. “I would appreciate, Mask scum, that you do not give me lip. My patience is wearing thin.”
