Teravangian Posted July 24, 2025 Posted July 24, 2025 I'm sooo curious about the mechanics of the surges, and how they work, and the new lore, but obviously I can't find out how they work in the new game. It's driving me crazy. This really is sad. I can't justify buying the game just to get the lore, and I can't justify buying the game when I have nobody to play it with. Storms! 2

Once the conmmercial release is available, you can pick-up just the worldbook for the lore - it's like buying any other book for your shelf (physical or digital). As far as playing, there will probably be a number of games in this forum and the 17th Shard Discord (But I too bought the material with no exptectation of ever playing it as a game) Edited November 17, 2025 by Treamayne SPAG 2
DSCrankshaw Posted July 25, 2025 Posted July 25, 2025 I'm sure a lot of the lore will end up in this forum or the Coppermind. But FYI, while the lore is considered canon, the mechanics are not-- they're designed to approximate the book mechanics in a game context. And I've spotted some lore statements which don't fully match what's in the books. Spoiler For example, the Handbook states that Bondsmiths do not get Blades or Plate (I consider this lore instead of mechanics because Bondsmiths aren't mechanically statted out for the game). Blades make sense, as the Stormfather refuses and the Sibling's already manifested, but Plate spren were forming around Dalinar as early as his vision with Venli in Oathbringer. That doesn't necessarily mean he'd get Plate once he reached the Fourth Ideal, but that's how I read it at the time. 2
AsherCrane Posted July 25, 2025 Posted July 25, 2025 Honestly, same. I was hoping the oaths would go up on Coppermind, but some are still missing. 1

I won't quote them here, as I'm away from my computer, but I will say the following: Spoiler Fifth ideals are not given for any of the orders. And all Fourth ideals appear to be personal, so the book describes the idea without giving exact words. Edited July 25, 2025 by DSCrankshaw Spoiler, not quote. 1
DSCrankshaw Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 So, as I have the book open, and it was asked earlier, here's what's revealed about Radiant Ideals in the Stormlight Handbook. I'll skip Lightweavers and Windrunners, as we've seen those in detail: Spoiler Dustbringer Second Ideal: "To control my power, I will control myself." Third Ideal: "To understand my power, I will understand what power is." Fourth Ideal: Specific to the person, but the idea is to acknowledge that all power is accompanied by obligation. Edgedancer Skipping the first three, since we already got them from Lift. Fourth Ideal: Specific to the person, but it involves advocating for the unseen and ignored. Elsecaller All ideals after the first are specific to the person, and reflect aspirations, what you want to become and how you want to grow. Skybreakers Second Ideal: "I swear to seek justice, to let it guide me, until I find a more perfect Ideal." Third Ideal: "I swear to follow ..." Fourth Ideal: Specific to the person, but it requires taking on a personal quest to root out an injustice to your spren's satisfaction. I note that these are the same as what Szeth said, and do not reflect a different set of Skybreaker oaths which Wind and Truth suggests exists. Stoneward Second Ideal: "I will step forward when others fall back." Third Ideal: "I will be the foundation on which others can build." Fourth Ideal: Specific to the person, but recognizes that you need to care for yourself and shouldn't sacrifice your needs. Truthwatcher Second Ideal: "I will seek truth wherever it is hidden." Third Ideal: "I will reveal the truth to all who seek it." Fourth Ideal: Specific to the person, but requires you to share the truth despite the risks. Willshaper Second Ideal: "I will seek freedom for those in bondage." Third Ideal: "I will fight oppression even . . ." The rest is specific to the person, but requires you to expand your search for oppression beyond the individuals who need to be free and to its sources. Fourth Ideal: Specific to the person, but requires making a lasting difference for the people you've freed. Bondsmith These are specific to the person, because the spren are very different, but the ideas are the same. Second Ideal: "I will unite instead of divide. I will bring people together." This requires seeking peace and cooperation, mediating disputes, and considering carefully how they engage in conflict when necessary. Third Ideal: "I will take responsibility for what I've done. If I must fall, I will rise each time a better person." This requires the Bondsmith to acknowledge their mistakes, and become a better person and leader over time. Fourth Ideal: Specific to the person, but acknowledges that all life is precious, and a Bondsmith cannot make the enemy faceless, but should try to minimize the cost of conflict. 5

Did we learn any new forms of power?

This is just in the lore book so I don't know if they play into the plot of the campaign: Spoiler We learn that Ba Ado Mishram made her own fused called Shadowform and that these fused have been trapped in gems in the City of Shadows. The city is likely called this because these Shadow forms haunt a specific area in some way. 1

Minor Stonewalker spoilers, specifically concerning this question: Spoiler In the Stonewalker campaign, they are described as Regals, but they are kind of like Fused. Quote Caught between the Physical and Cognitive Realms, the shadowform Regals were the result of a plan enacted by Ba-Ado-Mishram to create powerful assassins. They each bound a shadowspren to their gemheart, making their bodies incorporeal—but unexpectedly, their gemhearts stayed solid. Ever since, the shadowform singers have been torn between two realms and have endured millennia of torment. ... Shadowform zealots are created when a human pierces their heart with a sharpened shadowform gemstone, allowing their body to be consumed. The resulting entities are driven by the fragmented memories and passions of the ancient singers.

This is exactly the sort of list I've been looking for.
