Okay let's see if this works.

Hey there! Spark and I have been talking about rebooting the Fantasy--No Magic RP, by starting a sequel thread. The rp ended up going inactive after I decided to start my soft rp hiatus. I’m finding now though, that not only do I have time, but I really really miss roleplaying with guys and having fun.

We decided it might be a good idea to open the rp up to new players because we’ve lost a few (I miss you wyrmie), and I thought it would give us some momentum as we get started.

Original people: (If you no longer want to be involved, that’s cool, just pinging you because this is your story just as much as mine!) @Spark of Hope @Through The Living Glass @TheRavenHasLanded @Exotic Almond @BlueWildRye

For older players, I'd recommend making a character sheet still, whether you plan on playing the same character or a new one. I'll help me keep track of things, and is a good way to introduce your character to new players.

For new people:

FNM is an old rp that was started last August by Witsthebest, the only premise being to tell a medieval(ish) based fantasy story that didn’t include magic (I mean, it’s kind of in the name). I ended up directing a lot of the plot after I brought in some of my own original characters and we decided to let their story play out.

In general, we’ve tried to keep this roleplay a bit more grounded and less chaotic. That said, we have pushed the line on the ‘no-magic’ rule to some degree. As I see it, we’re telling a story that falls in the line of magical realism. Certain folklore-like things can happen if they make sense in context, and have good reason to exist.

For example, we had a religious character who could experience visions because of her religion, or a ninja character who had ki-powered martial art abilities, allowing him to pack a bit of a harder hit. But no outright wizards with spell books. Hopefully that makes sense to some degree?

In the end, if you have an idea just reach out and we’ll chat about it!

As for ‘season 1’ of the rp, here’s a brief summary of stuff to know so you’re less confused as we get started. (It’s over a hundred pages, so I definitely don’t see anyone going back in and reading it). I’m going to do my best to make the start of the roleplay as new-player friendly as possible, but hopefully this will help give some context:

Spoiler

The Worru empire is in chaos. Just a few weeks ago, during a trial held at the palace, the emperor was murdered. Three main contenders remain to fight for the throne: February from the north, January in the middlelands, and October in the south.

Before his death, the emperor disowned his own children, dissatisfied with their potential as heirs. Instead he adopted individuals collected from across the land, whether for their deeds, talents, or abilities. He believed that they could lead his empire into an eternal era of prosperity, and to represent this hope he named them after the months of the year. Some chose their place, and acted as powerful warlords. Others were taken and held against their will.

Now that the emperor is dead, three contend to take his place, and the others have run, gone into hiding, or completely disappeared.

The capital of Jouken, where the murder took place, is now under January’s control. He seeks to take out as many other months as possible, validating his claim to the throne.

Having murdered the emperor with his own hands, June is now facing the terrible consequences of his actions. He travels with August, despite how much he dislikes him, because of a promise made to his twin brother July. August plans to meet with some of his old war friends to discuss the conflict. He’d fought against the empire long ago, before being captured and forced to become one of the emperor's heirs.

The duo are waiting at an fairly nice tavern in Teth, a smaller city just outside the empire's massive capital of Jouken. It’s quiet enough that they can avoid the attention of January’s army, and regroup. Hopefully here they can discuss with friends and allies their next move.

In Truehearth, a large city just outside the Worru empire, waits Jolane, a friend the months made during their travels, as well as September and July, who have travelled ahead of the others in pursuit of safety. August and June plan will include meeting up with them, but first they have to escape the empire.

(Unfortunately all the months are established characters, whether involved in the current plot or not. If you’re super set on playing one, we might be able to work something out, but you’ll have a lot less freedom for character creation for the sake of story continuity).

On top of the chaos in Worru, rumors of a civil war in Shennai have made their way across the ocean, and advanced weapons of war developed over there have started to seep into the empire.

(Shennai was created by Wyrm, but is currently being controlled by Spark. If you want to play a character from Shennai, or that has Shennai weapons (firearms) ask her).

The role play is going to start at the aforementioned tavern, whether you want your character to be aware of the meeting of old characters or not is up to you. I'll do my best to weave your ideas into the plot! (I know starting at a tavern is cliche, but it works every time, and I like it, so that's what we're doing). I will reserve the right to veto any ideas that I think won't work, but I'll do my best to work with you all so we can still include your ideas. The goal is for everyone to have fun, and I'll just be here to try and preserve the fairness of that.

(I'll be making a zoomed in version on the relevant area soon)

(if you have any questions for places I didn’t mention, don’t be afraid to ask!)

Character sheet base: (I will be making sheets for my two main characters, August and June, for your reference as well).

Name: Beetle

Pronouns: He

Skills/occupation/’class’: He researches strange, magic-esque phenomena. He also happens to think he’s a wizard, though he does get weirdly lucky at times (which is likely what led him to this delusion).

Appearance: Glasses that make his eyes huge, shoulder length blonde hair,

Backstory: As a child, he was fascinated with stories of warlocks and wizards. He grew up to be even more devoted to the idea of them, due to some things that happened in his life.

Items of note they have with them / weapons: He has some animal eyes and guts for spell casting, as well as a variety of leaves, pebbles, nuts, flowers, and some steel powder, sawdust, and other strange things. He carries a bunch of knives (they mesmerize him. He says they hypnotized him as a child) of all lengths and shapes on his belt, most made of iron or steel, some carved from wood or stone. He also carries a bunch of “potions” and lugs around a small cauldron on a rope to carry his things in.

Personality: Eccentric. Very eccentric.

Idk it could be fun to play with the genre like that

YES HALY PLEASE JOIN!! So far I love this concept! I forgot to put it in the sheet itself, but where is your character from? Just a citizen of the empire? It's not super important, but might effect interactions with other characters.

Per the 'no magic' rule, we've been staying pretty far away from non-human races. Soooo . . . probably not. I don't know, what were you thinking?

Yay!! :D

Sure, citizen of the empire is fine. He doesn't pay much attention to politics, which means don't have to pay much attention. Which is exactly my style. I'll try to get the basics down, though :D

Nice! I like it. The reason I used the word 'class' is because dnd/ttrpg stereotypes are really easy to use as a base for this sort of a thing. You don't have to pick a dnd style class (my characters don't really have them), but if you wanted to specify your character with one of those classes, you could. If that makes any sense.

Name: Jolane

Pronouns: she/her

Skills/occupation/’class’: Former server at a tavern.

Appearance: Dark brown hair to her shoulders and blue eyes. I have a couple things saved on Pinterest that she would wear but I can't access my phone ATM, so I'll attach them in another power later. Average height and on the skinny side. Has a brand of a pint on her wrist, but keeps it covered with a cloth cuff made by her mother.

Backstory: Shortly after she was born, her father gambled to try and get more money for his family. He lost to an innkeeper of a nearby village named Robert. Since he didn't have the funds to pay back Robert what he owed, he took his daughter as a slave and employed her in his tavern. She grew up there until she was ten, when she started to work, and got a basic education in reading, writing, and arithmetic to help Robert keep the in. She tried to run away once, and she was punished for it and he threatened to allow things to happen to her if she tried to run again. Every week a man she didn't know to be her father came in and tried to win her back, but every week he added 5 years to the initial 20 years of her slavery. When she was 18, she met July and August, and shortly after, the tavern burnt down. Due to their destroyed property, the patrons in the tavern at the time beat Robert to death, which freed her. She, with the season one party, reunited with her family and stayed with them for a while. She eventually left for Truehearth, where they planned to reunite before the empire fell into chaos. While with them, she developed a crush on July. During the timeskip, she learned sword skills from Ma'tani, a character previously played by The Bookwyrm.

Items of note they have with them / weapons: Stuffed barn owl, old family-made blanket, a new sword she got from Ma'tani, and the things in the pins that I'll put up later

Personality: Generally quieter but friendly, nonconfrontational unless she needs to be, curious

~~~
Name: April
Pronouns: she/her
Skills/occupation/’class’: Emperor's adopted daughter.
Appearance: Dark brown hair down to her calves, usually kept in a braid. Brown eyes. Slightly shorter than average height. Has a brand on the inside of her left wrist, but wears sleeves that cover it.
Backstory: April occasionally receives prophetic visions from the God Perdulei. When she was seven, Jael was taken from her family to become one of the emperor's children against her will because of her visions. She was renamed April by the emperor to fit his name structure. She has a close bond with August, who promised to help her get out someday, and July, and used to be friends with June as well. August wrote a letter to her parents after she was taken and smuggled things they sent in to her. In the time skip, she reunited with her family and two younger siblings she'd never met before. She sent them ahead of the main group for their own safety, along with another runaway heir, May. She sent many of her things with them as well.
Items of note they have with them / weapons: Her mother's necklace, a blanket, a carved wooden rabbit, throwing knives
Personality: Kept her emotions completely subdued for years as a form of silent protest, unless alone with August and July. She is not reaccustomed to expressing emotions around others yet. Fairly closed off but polite about it
Name: Khoi
Pronouns:  He/Him
Skills/occupation/’class’: Khoi is a wandering priest of [insert god here] (maybe a dragon?), without magic. He preaches of rebirth and renewal, that tomorrow will come, and we must keep moving. He's a skilled orater, and has a deep, unshakable faith.
Appearance: Khoi is a young man marked by tragedy-He lost his sight in a bout of fever when he was a young boy. As such, he wears a simple blindfold over his milky brown eyes. His skin is marked by long travel, tan from years under the sun. He's not physically weak as some might expect- he only lost his eyes, not his strength, and carrying his pack many miles certainly helped. He wears simple trousers and a tunic, with a wide brim hat to protect him a bit from the sun.
Backstory: Khoi was born in a distant land (?), where lived a uneventful childhood. That was until, the plagues came. Khoi and his family whered struck by bouts of fever and weakness, but when all was said and done, he, the youngest of the family was the sole survivor. He was taken in by a temple, who raised him as a foundling. 5 years ago, at the age of 18, he was sent from the temple to preach, and has been walking ever since.
Items of note they have with them / weapons: Khoi carries with him his back pack, full of many things; a bedroll, a tent, food, flint and steel, his holy ropes (knots as stories) and his walking stick. Plus a Golden Canary (if you know you know...) Khoi talks to sometimes and chirps when someone approaches.
Personality: Khoi is content with his lot, and is optimistic about what tomorrow will bring. He's prepared enough to weather the storm and if it gets too bad, he can always leave.
Is there a list of gods? Also where should he be born?
There isn't a list. It would probably be similar to real life, in that there are several varying religions different people practice, even in one area.
Shenai is based on Chana/Japan, and To'atani is Polynesia inspired. What real life nationality were you thinking?
You can if you want to. Toph got hers because of her closeness with the earth, maybe it could be some sort of divine "blessing"
