She watched them run, then frowned and turned.

“209845?”

“It’s okay. I’m sorry. I’m okay now.”

Jidah RaB pver and shoved him away. “Hey!”

She wasn't a virus. She seemed to be a friend.

A force suddenly hit 209845's side, zapping it to its senses. It reloaded for a second, then looked around.

That was the Immortal... Jidah?... and Réva... she wasn't a virus... she was a friend...-

NO. Screamed 209845's subconscious. DELETE ALL VIRUSES. KILL THEM. DELETE ALL VIRUSE-

"Instant Kill Mode: Deactivating"

The voice inside 209845's head disappeared. It looked at Réva, then at Jidah. Why did they seem so afraid of it? And Réva... she looked like she was about to collapse. 209845 reached out to comfort her...

Lati was guarding her.

She yelped and got out of the way before Jidah could run into her.

“No! No. Not you. Me.”

Jidah slapped him away. She didn’t look scared anymore. She looked angry.

“WHAT was THAT?”

She took several deep breaths. She looked after where the two viruses had run, then back at 209845. "They weren't attacking."

She pointed questioningly at 209845.

She followed timidly.

Jidah decided not to correct her.

209845 turned to face her, and suddenly understood what had happened. It bowed its head.

"Apologies. I got consumed by the thrill of the fight. I will try not to have it happen again."

It turned towards the direction the viruses had fleed in.

"All viruses are threats. I should have followed them... perhaps they would have led to more." 209845 raised its head. "Our next priority is finding a place to camp. More beasts could strike at any moment, and I cannot fend them all off." As if the conversation ended there, 209845 turned and began to walk away.

17 watched with a frown. They looked back and were somewhat disappointed to see that the creatures had fled.

“You’ll TRY? No! I don’t think so! You WON’T LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN, or I will CRUSH YOU LIKE A BUG. You HEAR ME?”

209845 stopped and turned around. “I SAID I WAS SORRY. IS THAT NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU MORTALS? I CAN’T make a promise I DON’T KNOW if I will be able to keep. Right now, we need somewhere to rest. People are tired, and unlike YOU, I think about the future!”

She was lost for words. She eventually turned around and began to stalk after the viruses.

She opened her mouth, then closed it.

You mortals.

“F-fine! Be like that, I don’t care!” She ran off down a random tunnel.

“Lati…” 209845 felt a song of something odd. Like a string, pulling at its heart until it completely came undone. It was not a nice feeling.

“Rèva…” the pang intensified. Why? Why wouldn’t they just LISTEN to 209845. It was always right…

"209845. You can come with us. If, and only if, you restrain yourself. If the viruses don't attack, you don't attack."

The decision tore at 209845, more than anything else it had ever felt. And yet, the craving to stay with its new friends eventually came out on top. It bowed its head, then took a deep breath and spoke.

”I promise.”
