Seeing the immortal’s decision, 209845 made its own. It set out to follow them, but was interrupted by a message on its frequency from the Cloud.

209845 hesitated. It had never lied to Cloud command; such an act would result in an immediate factory reset. But at the same time, the group of people before it intrigued it, and who knew? They might even help 209845 complete its function, and then it would be a hero. In the end, it opted for a version of the truth.

”Potential virus fleeing the scene. In pursuit,“ it transmitted. The message traveled directly through the Web, and received no interference from the land.

”Very well,” the message returned. “The fleet will see to the situation here. Continue course, Agent.”

Feeling a little guilty, 209845 returned to its path. And joined the rest.
