“It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Réva.”

"Maybe . . . I dunno."

"What? Why?" she said timidly. After a moment, she hesitantly reached out and touched his hand just long enough for it to sizzle a little before pulling back.

"There. There, done," she said nervously.

". . . Are you okay, Ver?"

Ver gasped as the sensation burned him. It hurt, but in the pain, it was so, so real. Slowly, he reactivated his vision to look around.

”Lati?” The broken word left his mouth sounding dry.

As he looked around, he saw oddly that the environment had changed. For some reason, the world of storms he had walked was gone, replaced with a light, treed meadow. Some birds chirped in the distance. Ver struggled to understand. It he didn’t dream. Could he be dead, or his mind controlled? He shoved the thoughts out of his head. He didn’t care. He was here, and the others were here too.

A slim youth wearing a baggy pale yellow hoodie approached from behind a stand of trees. They wore an excess of bracelets and charms on their wrists, and bore a sorrowful expression. “That’s… not a great attitude. Death? Maybe some people seek it. Pain? If you’re looking for pain, maybe you should get help.”

Ver turned to the man who had suddenly appeared. His clothing was unusual, nothing Ver recognized. But his words cracked through his meditations.

”Help? Yes, I need help. Help.” He had come here looking for help. Açila. The planet was still dying. The Cloud was still there. Could he still save it? A part of him wanted to ignore it, to forget about it. But his conscience wouldn’t allow that. Back to the present.

”Who… are you, exactly?”

40 minutes ago, Through the Living Hope said:

“Well, we can at least ask him."

She stood up and walked over. “Hey, Ver?"

@Slay the Living Hoid

Ver got up, and turned to her.

”Hello, Réva. It’s been a while. What… happened to you guys?”

As he looked at them, Ver kept an eye on Rane and the Fox, who now stood discussing near a log nearby.

“Ohh…”

Ver paused. He had been expecting one of their friends; Jidah, Owen maybe. Rhyme. He had tried them all already. All of the chips he had placed on them had gone dark, the same as the one on Réva had until now - he had never managed to get one on Lati.

”Réva, I’d love to, but… I don’t know who she is.”

Cris’ voice literally cracks through the next words, slightly. An awareness of the layers of the world beyond grants them a glimpse through the fourth wall. They do not understand what you are seeing, nor do they understand what you are looking past. But they understand a few things. “Mmm… a spiritualist? I dabbled in the occult back home. We’re still trying to decide whether or not the pig was actually demon possessed, though. What about you?”

As Ver slowly regained a sense of reality, he felt his vision swim. Within him, his code worked frantically, trying to piece things together. A being, with a knife of darkness. A hooded figure, standing at the edge of his vision. The knife approaching. Oxy...

Oxymoron was dead. By the Framework, the goddamn Primal Oxymoron was dead. No, not just Oxymoron... they all were. Ver lay in the rain, shaken. In his databooks, the Primals were immortal. They transcended time, incarnations of the Framework itself. Beings of myth, until he had met one, that short time in which his existence had begun to make sense. Oxymoron had seemed insane, and yet, Ver had found a kinship in him when he stood against the Cloud. In that moment, he had seemed so human, so tangible... and now he was gone.

The rain continued to pour.

Oxymoron had sent out a final message, Ver concluded. Why he had received it, so powerfully, he could not fathom. But something in the energy had unlocked a piece of his consciousness he hadn't been able to access before - his memories from Before. In a phenomenon Ver didn't know any other agent of the Cloud to display - not that he really knew any others - he couldn't remember anything from before That Day. He knew the logs were there, he could feel them; they just weren't his to access. But the force of Oxy's message had broken the walls that held them back, and for a second, he had tasted them - before something pushed them back again. And now, they would not leave him alone. The taste had made him hunger.

Ver shook his head. No, no, no. No, he couldn't think about that now. He needed to survive. He needed to... what was that. A voice.

Ver choked out a phantom sob. Lati wasn't here. No, she couldn't be. She had vanished, along with the others, into the nothing when the Others arrived. He had seen it, right before his eyes. They were talking, and then the explosions began. The barrier went up, and Ver screamed, but he was too late. The others fell away, and then they came for him, banishing him to this damned world of storms and thunder.

But the voice didn't go away, and there was another voice with it. It sounded like... Réva's. They were talking about... someone's mom? No, that didn't make sense. Ver shakingly raised an arm, reaching out into the downpour, hoping to feel the burning that would mean she was real.

Oh, Singularity, he hoped she was real.

The strange figure seems to stand still, as if split. If you dare to steal a glance at him, he will feel one overwhelmingly strong sentence explode in his head.

Well that's just offensive. Calling me 'that', cmon. I have a name ya know.

I don’t like normal names, if you can tell. They are boring. They have reasons, but I have to solidify their character first.
“Oh, just curious if you were a ghost. I’ve got something here that should make it difficult for those to interact with me, so checking to see if its either broken or if you’re just wearing the One Ring.” A mouse peeked out of their hoodie pocket and climbed up to their shoulder to say hi.
