Satisfying pops followed suit.

He opened his eyes to the evergreen forest around him as he took in another breath, the earthy air filling his lungs, flora and fauna dancing around him with Mystical energy.

HIs Stimulation burst alight within, the windserpent tattoos that curled around his forearms burning a bright white, like a bonfire roaring with a toss of gasoline.

It's now...

He craned his head back to view the heavens above, shifting it from side to side, releasing more pops.

... or never.

Snapping his head back into place, Calix ducked swiftly as bullets flew over him, scooping up a handful of dirt as the bullets appeared to slow down for him; in fact, it seemed that all of time was slowing down for him. Darting from side to side, he sifted the dirt between his fingers, leaving him with small pebbles.

Perfect.

Slowed shouts came from the brush around him, pointed towards him much like the bullets flying in his direction.

A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, dancing in his pure golden eyes as Calix tossed the pebbles towards his assailants, then changed their direction of gravity towards his assailants.

More slowed, but now pained shouts sounded in his ears as Calix darted between the last two bodyguards, brushing their arms slightly, changing their direction of gravity towards the sky. The bodyguards cried out again, both of them shooting up into the air.

Standing up straight, Calix ran a hand through his pure white hair, then straighten his white vest and the cuffs of his black collared shirt as the gravity over the bodyguards returned to its proper order, sending them to the ground with sickening cracks.

The leader stood completely still in front of him with her mouth agape, forgetting the firearm in her hands. She looked over her bodyguards, fallen to pebbles and gravity of all things.

"Ho-how..?" she stammered, dumbfounded at the scene. "They're––"

"The best of the best, I know," Calix finished, bending down to pick up another good sized pebble, his Stimulation still ablaze, though subdued now.

"Then... what... who are you?"

"A blessing, a curse, a miracle, a plague, an anomaly, an experiment; I've heard it all," he replied with a shrug, but the smirk still played on his lips. "But to you: I'm the end to this sweet nightmare of yours."

The pebble shot from his now open hand, making its way to––

"Simulation terminated."

The leader and bodyguards dissolved before his eyes, the forest falling not far behind, leaving him with a bare white room.

Calix chuckled to himself, wiping his face with his hands as his Stimulation faded as well as the light from his tattoos. Perhaps may have taken it a bit too far for Moira's taste, but drastic times call for drastic measures... plus, it's not every day that he could let loose like that. It had been... oh, he'd stopped counting of how long it's been since he was allowed to be himself.

Besides, it wasn't all he could do.

What was he to do with all this power at his disposal if he wasn't allowed to use it properly?

Damn these people and their ideals, Calix silently cursed, but he still smiled as if he'd heard an inside joke. He made his way over to the table with water and towels. Really drove up a sweat, even though he was using the Stimulation from his Huyatian side... perhaps it was a drawback from his Zvsoan side? So many mysteries with his lineage and the implications of literally... everything.

Picking up a towel, he wiped his face properly when he heard a sound over the speakers.

"Cal," Khusa's voice sounded, smooth as ever.

"Bah, I know," Calix shot back, taking a swig of water. Oh, that tasted good.

"I'm certain you don't."

"I'm certain I do." He turned around, peering at the one-way mirror, sneering ever so slightly. "Moira's throwing a fit that I 'didn't do diplomacy properly'? That I 'can't do what I just did because what would the people think?'"

"Mm, it's a good sight." Calix could practically hear Khusa's lips curl into a cruel smile. "But no."

His eyebrow arched as he folded his arms. "Well?"

. . .

By all the gift and talents, I hate that lightn' woman.

If Calix had it his way, he would slap Moira upside the head every single time she told him to go to another planet to figure out something something blah blah blah. Frankly, he stopped paying attention after the "go to another planet" bit, since it all dumbed down to the same thing: Go, fetch, come back, they'd investigate while he goes back to the kennel... Maybe that last part was him fantasizing, but bah. Same difference in his eyes.

He carefully picked his way through the cave of... well, he really didn't know besides that it was a pathway of sorts, the glow from his tattoos acting as a makeshift light as he followed the voices. Acting like she owns everything 'cause she can't find her way back home, Calix grumbled quietly. And she thinks she knows the Iyerene. He's probably seen more of it than her.

The voices grew louder and louder, till he came across this group of... well, "ragtag adventurers" wouldn't fit. More of a band of misfits that Calix knew for a fact did not belong here.

Again, where was here?

Absolutely no lightn' clue.

However, there were a few that appeared to know something...

Calix carefully picked his way towards the group, listening in silently on their conversation while keeping his own.

”Regardless of your knowledge, the Cloud must take you into custody for both your protection and that of this world.” 207660 gestured towards the visible group, and the other two antiviruses began to move to apprehend them.

The antiviruses jump at the voices, looking around for their sources.

”No! You cannot destroy the barrier. Reveal yourselves!”

Acting on an impulse, 209845 suddenly stepped out of Jidah’s shield, making itself visible, then pretended to stumble, as if hurt.

”Help!” It exclaimed. “These mortals have taken me captive! Let me through!” 209845 lurches over to the barrier, pressing its hands against the invisible wall, ignoring the searing pain that burst out as its substance came into contact with the shield.

Hundreds of sentinels like 256889 were stationed around the perimeter of the Cloud’s territory. They were instructed not to engage with anomalies, and 256889 was very good at following instructions. It reported the being to Cloud command, then began to silently float after it.

Wrath laughed, playing along while Spirit glared at him. An illusion of chains now burst from his now visible figure, while a thought was impressed  to 209845. Is this sufficient?

The chains wrapped around 209845, appearing to constrain him - though they did not have mass.

He also impressed in the mind of one of the sentinels- subtly, of course - that he was weak to electrical impulse.

Voice booming, “Bow, sentinels, before the power of Madness.”

Jidah tilted her head. I haven't felt a disturbance like that in a long time.

It couldn't be... one of the old ones?

Reaching deep into the Rift for the energy, she dissolved into particles of light and re-formed behind Calix, maintaining the connection to cloak her presence. Then she reached for his mind.

Who are you?

". . . Hi?" said a voice to him from within the barrier.

“Yes, I’m talking to you.” Calix’s eyebrow rose as he studied the barrier. Strange. How? “Whoever you are… I’m looking for someone. They go by many names, but one apparent one she’s going by is ‘The Angel of Death.’ Ring a bell or two?”

The hairs of his neck rose as he shifted side to side, feeling his Stimulation begin to burn, his tattoos glowing a bit brighter. Lights, there’s more than I thoughts, Calix mumbled, then caught himself. And I assume you can hear my thoughts?

"Um . . . no?"

The voice was that of a young child's. Female, probably.

"Why are you looking for them?"

Lights. There goes that idea.

Calix placed his hands on his hips, shrugging as he scratched the back of his head, his tattoos pulsing with light. “She’s been missing for a while,” he replied tentatively. “I’m just helping out a friend in looking for her.”

If not here, then…

”And, if you don’t mind me asking,” he continued, “what is this place called? I blanked out on the name during travel.”

"Um . . . I dunno. It's called a "cave" I think."

I can. The angel of death? Ah, I believe I met her once, some time ago.

None of us know. An unnamed world. I shouldn't even be here, actually.

“Hmm, gotcha.“ Just what I need. “And how did you happen to end up here?”

And lived to tell the tale, he mused. Must’ve been a good day for her.

I fell from the heavens on my way to Nayori, she grumbled.

Not exactly. I'm a goddess, you see. I was back then. She couldn't have killed me if she'd wanted to.

Ahh, I see. Calix tilted his head, scanning around for any source of the voice. Haven’t been there personally, but I know a good handful of people who have; a couple of acquaintances of mine hail from there.

Hasn’t stopped her before; she’s killed worse.

I'm sure she has, Jidah thought to him patronizingly.

A blonde woman with striking gold eyes appeared behind him. She wore white. There was no aura of grand divinity or anything else to indicate any sort of godliness.

"What are we talking about," Lati whispered.

I'm not entirely sure.
