Lost Tales Discussion Thread

This topic is for all discussion of the three Lost Tales. Do note that sharing the entire contents of any of the stories is not allowed on the forums, as it is a violation of copyright. If you don't know what the Lost Tales are, they are a series of 3 short stories that Brandon released at Dragonsteel in the form of collectible trading cards. Each story was split up into 52 cards, and those cards are currently the only way to read the stories. The cards are currently sold out, and the stories aren't available online anywhere, but Brandon will likely release them digitally sometime this year.

Before this fills with spoilers I don't want to see, can I just go on record to say that I really love being told "Have-nots can't get these stories, because you can't travel or are too poor to do so" (might not be the words used, but that is the message I received at least). 

- I undestand the "let's try something different for conventions" mentality
- I do not understand the "let's exclude everybody else. . . because" mentality

Sorry for the mini-rant - but the commercialism of "exclusive product" really really bothers me.

Yep, definitely valid, and agreed. I can see keeping it exclusive for a week or two, but I wish they'd released them digitially sooner after

Yeah, my personal take is that the ePub should release the week after the Convention. Let those that enjoy Swag chase the cards (during and after - especially to "collect" a physical copy of the story) but let the rest of us have the story too. 

But I also have a similar personal problem with Audio exclusive Content (non cosmere)

I was at the convention and even I thought it was a bit flawed to make it take so long for the stories to be released by themselves

I know things none of my other fan friends do and I'm on the verge of blowing up and telling them

And I keep on having to lend my card decks to them

Thanks for setting this up @#1 Taln Fan. I totally get the criticisms of this whole thing but still nice to have a place to talk about it! Here's a few conversation starters:

1. What do we think about the two Worldhoppers Jasnah met in Shadesmar? Do we have any idea what planet they came from? How does the girl have Futuresight? And did anyone else find it strange that the green man's name sounds Terris?

2. What is the Current? This is - I believe - the first mention of it. Where does it lead? What's its source? 

3. This is the first mention of Emberdark. Is it on Roshar, or somewhere else? I had trouble understanding from this story alone.

4. Who was your favorite character in the stories, and why was it Lopen's hand-Wit?

Ok, so when it came to the cards, I basically sacrificed all of my Jasnah, and a good chunk of my Lopen cards to get the complete Chasm friends story because that's the only one I cared about. The art is incredible, and it is easily my favorite part of any of the card sets.

I haven't read through my mostly complete Lopen story, though.

Yeah I’m really curious about the two world hoppers especially the green man, doesn’t he mention where he comes from investiture/magic seems evil. He could be from an unseen shard world but my moneys on a non shard but still invested shard world. Like first of the sun or canticle 

 

im also really curious about the future vision girl, has anyone gone through all her predictions to see if they came true? I’ll make a list later in case anyone’s curious

We talked about Lorieta's predictions on Shardcast, I think the general conclusion we came to was that some of them seemed to have happened, some we were unsure about, and some we had no idea about. 

Cool to see someone here whose favorite was Chasmfriends, I think you're the first I've seen who liked that one the best, @IcedOutPenguin!

I thought the ShardCast ep on these was really good! It came out just a few days after this thread started, so also very timely  

I'll also admit that Chasmfriends has been the story I think the most about. The ending was so funny!

Why didn't Jasnah see Shallan? Shallan did go into the Cognitive Realm to change the boat, so why didn't Jasnah see her.

Also, having two of these stories be canon is weird. I'm re-reading Words of Radiance again, and I had to stop to read Elsecaller.
