Era 8 Episode 1: Troubles in New Hallandren

Altin stared out into the night. He was on top of the apartment block, where he and Leif lived. He loved this little roof. It was high and quiet, a place to rest, a place to forget the memories. Weaver spoke in his mind, a trace of concern in his disembodied voice. "You ok, Altin?" 

Altin responded, hesitation gone, "I'm fine. Let's get down to business." He strode to the edge of the roof and pulled out a vial of tin, downing it. He burned it and the world became more clear, focused and vibrant around him. The strange sensation was becoming more familiar to him. He looked around, and with his enhanced eyesight found he could see clear to New Hallendren. 

"Something big is happening in New Hallendren, Weaver. And that means opportunities." 

"Are you sure you want to jump headfirst into a whitespine den, Altin? You are not the strongest anymore." 

Altin winced as Weaver said that. Upon coming to the Alleys, he was dismayed to find out that having a shardblade didn't make you the most powerful anymore. He heard stories of men who could fly through the air, shape stone like water, and even heal from mortal wounds. He pushed back his doubt and spoke, "You're right. I'm not the most powerful and storms, I probably should be running away as fast as I possibly can. But my cousin needs food and I'm the only one who can bring it to her. So if that means fighting men stronger than myself, I will. And Heralds help anyone who gets in my way!" 

Weaver paused appreciatively. "We'll turn you into a hero yet."

Altin shook his head ruefully, "No, I'm a thief. So let's go steal some things."

Small note that generally having a little tag at the top of your post of 

character, district, specific location 

is a nice structure to have, just so that people know where your character is. Once you’ve introduced the character there, and you’re interacting actively with someone else, it becomes less important, but having that on at least every post you introduce a character/when your character changes areas is a good thing to do

Thav did as the shopkeeper suggested, though he was pretty well stocked on most items. Some aluminum would be useful, but he couldn't afford to use their limited funds on weapons. He did select some aluminum bullets--it wouldn't be enough to use constantly, but it would be useful for dealing with Coinshots and Lurchers. He waited at the counter for the shopkeeper to return.

Leon nodded. "Great. Follow fast." And with that, he took off into the skies, hurtling through the air, as he tossed coins down. He quickly left the Mistwarrens, arcing through the skies, occasionally glancing down to see if Fenna was following him.

Soon, he came to New Hallendren, a bright, gaudy district full of colors that nearly blinded Leon with disgust. He landed in the streets, and began to look around. The UFO must be somewhere close...

reminder that UFO is not currently known to the public. That's not saying you can't know about them, but you would need to explain how you got that information. The whole objective of a secret organization is to keep their organization a secret, so you'd be hard pressed to know about them without joining them.

Also as I mentioned previously New Hallandren is under lockdown. Its the sort of thing you can get around if you're clever, but it will not be as easy as coinshotting over them. If someone tries that, the guards will be instructed to detain you. Maybe that's something you want me to RP, but given that the whole district is supposed to be hunting down criminals, it would probably be a bad idea.

New Hallandren, Charcoal Road

A group of New Hallandren guards quickly surrounded the coinshot. A lifeless hawk perched on the shoulder of one of them, with others brandishing spears at the intruder. Each wore a standard issued uniform, an awakened coat with aluminum bracers. A rope was tied to the side of the uniform, with a blade on the end. As per New Hallandren standard, they wore a colored handkerchief to denote their rank.

"Halt! This district is under lockdown. State your name and intention, or we will be obligated to use force."

I would say this is a group of about 5, each with around second heightening. They are specially trained against awakeners, but have hazekiller-style training to deal with just about any type of person. If things get messy, expect reinforcements to be called.

Leon smiled. Fenna might have found a way past the walls, but he could probably handle the guards. "Leon Ferrion. I'm here to murder some folks. Now can you please let me go?" 

Unbeknownst to the guards, pieces of metal all around them began to quiver very slightly.

It is worth noting that none of the guards have metal on them. Partially for dealing with coinshots/lurchers, but also because their uniforms are made to have every part to be able to be awakened, and metals conflict with that. Their blades are made of an aluminum alloy, but are generally attached to some sort of hide or other organic thing that can be awakened.

Oh and these are shortspears, so able to be one handed. Obviously they will be less effective when one handed, but yk.

Two of the guards launched their awakened rope at Leon, holding the side with the knife. The ropes were instructed to entangle whatever it comes in touch with until unawakened. The guards looked grim, but were clearly itching for a fight.

I apologize if this is a lot of action with very little dialogue or monologue, but given that I'm RPing a group of people, its a bit hard to do. This is an experiment to see if this style of NPC control is smoother than RPing from the perspective of one person, but we'll see.

Leon hurled a coin at one of the ropes, which the rope wrapped around, Pushing it back towards the guards, hopefully entangling the guard. He hurled another coin over the guards towards a wall, and threw himself backwards away from the second rope.

For refrence, the ropes are around 10 feet long. Enough to entangle someone at range, but also not too long as to be cumbersome. The awakening helps a bit, but it is something that can move unpredictably for someone not used to fighting against it.

The guards fell back, bracers and coats protecting them. A rope snapped, but the guards were otherwise unharmed. They did, however, stop their pursuit.

Farenah, IRS weapons depot, New Halandren.

Farenah stood tall as she tried to accept her new position. It was an important position, overseeing the distribution of weapons was important. 

But it was also very boring. She stood in her beige uniform that had been stained by her and awakener blood alike, it was clean now but remembering her action filled assignments made her think of how bleak this one was.

her boredom and restlessness was pushed aside as a drab and his bodyguard approached. “Ah, you must be Tulen.” Farenah said, holding out a hand to the scientist. “My name is Farenah, though most people call me Fara.”

As she got closer to the man she focused of the small device under her coat. No vibration, so he wasn’t invested. It’s pretty easy to spot a drab, but she just had to be sure.

She spotted a group of people, on the street a hundred or so feet away. With another leap, she sent herself sailing in that direction.

Fenna tapped weight midair, slowing herself down, but allowing her to build up more momentum as she fell. As she neared the fight, she stored weight again, gaining a burst of speed that launched her at one of the guards. She flared pewter and extended her legs for a kick.

Leon smiled briefly, spotting Fenna, soaring through the air. "You know what's funny? On Scadrial, humans are supposedly more Preservation than Ruin. That's a lie. There are some people, like me, that are Ruin's own children." 

He pulled out a gun, aiming at the guard who appeared to be the captain, and fired, Steelpushing the bullet directly at his head.

The guard went tumbling away, his coat taking the brunt of the hit. However, there was a snap as bones broke.

The sound of the gunshot reverberated throughout the area. Guns were strictly prohibited, and hearing a gunshot inside the district was incredibly rare. Most people had cleared away from the street as soon as the guards arrived, but all the remaining civilians ran at the sound of gunshots.

The other guard took the bullet to the head, being unable to react in time. He fell to the ground, blood seeping out of the wound, his eyes staring lifelessly ahead.

One guard turned to run, attempting to hide in the maze of houses that lined the street. The other two backed away, not wanting to disengage, but knowing that they couldn’t fight them alone.

Fenna, New Hallandren

Fenna landed on her side then flipped backwards landing lightly on her feet next to Leon. The guards were disengaging, but not retreating.

She grabbed a metal vial from her belt and downed it, replenishing her pewter, which had been running low. Gone were the days where she constantly worried about running out of metal—she carried enough to last several days, and had even more vials stashed back in the Mistwarrens.
