Calten_Gnomercy Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 So now that we’re post WaT and there is a gap until the next arc begins what does everyone see as advancements for the Rosharan’s? Magnetic Propulsion (4th Brige) Steam Power (“Flares” of domesticated Flame spren going to work in a boiler system to generate steam power. Electricity, steam engines, etc? More Wind based energy from Wind Spren? Fissionable (Fusion? I dunno) reactions when mixing War Light and Stormlight (granted and taught by Retribution) What else do you guys think? 3
logicless.bt Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 (edited) My concern is that without Navani fabrials might not progress much further, they'll just spread out into the niches they already have. We do have Rushu making discoveries but we've always seen that Navani needs to keep her on track Edit: forgot that Vasher is there. Since he seems to finally be taking an active role in things by training Lift, he might be able to be convinced to share his knowledge on fabrials. Edited December 16, 2024 by logicless.bt 1
Calten_Gnomercy Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 I think the development will come from the Singers, and aided by Retribution since Stormlight is unavailable at the moment. Did I pick that that up correctly at the end?
Dofurion Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I think the real tech boom will come when Sigzil returns to Roshar.

Elite01 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I think there might be a little more headyway made when it comes to understanding Light/Towerlight but I do worry we won't see much advancement without Navani. I think they could extrapolate from what she left behind, such as herding spren but besides that I wouldn't count on much. I wonder where they will continue to get gemstones cause they crack over time if used in a fabrial right? 1
teknopathetic he/him Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 (edited) I think Brandon can basically arbitrarily play with how much light Uritheru can utilize depending on what he wants for the story 1. Lift can continue to produce Lifelight because of her boon from Cultivation. However, it is also possibly that Lift lost her ability to do it to some extent when Cultivation fled the system. Maybe Lift can do it, but she is much less efficient now. I think it is likely that Lift can still do it, but maybe not or maybe not as well. 2. Towerlight may or may not be be siphonable from the Tower and used to power external devices. Brandon could play around with things such if The Tower can still hear the tone of Cultivation and/or Honour, or can play around with what Navani as an active bond smith can provide in terms of connection to light. It is possible that the barrier shield is taking up most of the Towerlight, and that there is not enough left over to be used for other non essential tasks. As well, maybe being in a coma changes the amount of light available. 3. The Everstorm/NewStorm may possibly be a source of light that can be siphoned away. I am not sure how, but possibly there is a way to draw it in and either utilize it as is or use the converter method to switch it to a new tone (if that even still works). 4. New Bondsmiths may be possible. Perhaps someone bonds Sja Anat or Ba-Ado-Mishram and then begins providing void or new-light. We don't know if the Tower is protecting Unmade, and we dont know what an Unmade Bondsmith would be like. Other options could be Sja Anat enlightening The Nightwatcher (should she still be around), or something else wacky like that. I do LOVE the idea that Cultivation didn't bring the Nightwatcher, and so the Nightwatcher asks to be enlightened. 5. Ba Ado Mishram may be able to provide voidlight or new-light somehow. I am not sure if The Tower or the Oathpact is protecting Ba Ado Mishram or not. Perhaps it is not right now, but Mishram could eventually be called to it somehow. Or Perhaps Mishram makes a play for the Well of Control again which changed the rules a bit. Edited December 17, 2024 by teknopathetic 1

Something interesting I would like to point out is the Rysn interlude where she's trying to lobby for standardizing patent laws between Urithiru and Thaylenah. I see no reason Taravangian wouldn't encourage the spread of such a law (considering the outsized effect it's had irl), and at the start of the series, Alethkar and Jah Keved were at the front of the scientific curve. So yeah, I think most of the technological development will be done by the (now singer/human societies) east, with Thaylenah/Uirithiru maintaining a narrow cutting edge using their better starting position. 2
