Do we have a source for people being unable to walk from Azir to Urithiru? There’s nothing in the contract that prohibits people from traveling through (or trading with) the “other god’s” territory. For that matter, isn’t it all Retribution’s territory now anyway? Aside from Urithiru (both due to Navani/The Sibling as well as its geographic isolation), why do we think people won’t be able to go wherever they want?

I'm becoming increasingly certain that Szeth will be the Champion

Why so much hate on the debate?
TheOtherDave replied to CognitiveShadow's topic in Cosmere Discussion
To be fair, it’s one thing to be attacked for public “hot takes” and quite another to be attacked for things you thought nobody knew about from years ago. -
I thought it was that Hoid could have kids, but whether or not he did was the RAFO. Maybe I’m misremembering too

And hopefully explodes Moash with one of Wax’s boom sticks and a sparkling red rod. -
Yeah, it really seemed to me like Adolin’s being setup to take Honor. Well, assuming he doesn’t die of old age while Honor figures out what he wants… I don’t think there’s any precedent for how quickly shards can grow and change since IIRC he’s the first to attempt it.
-
This is a horrible idea. Clearly Kal needs to get with Chana so that when the heralds return Shallan’s head can explode. Come to think of it, Adolin’s might too.

The sudden (aside from once or twice in RoW) switch to modern swearing for some characters kinda takes me out of it.
-
Ah, well, I stand corrected then
-
What kind of metal are the Honorblades made from? As long as it’s not aluminum (which would be a horrible choice for a sword), Marsh should be able to yank it out of Moash’s unsuspecting hands.

For the first time, I am disappointed in the prose
TheOtherDave replied to Ironeyes's topic in Stormlight Archive
Yeah. Although for me, it’s not so much the modern swearing, it’s that it didn’t really start until RoW, and it feels out of place considering that the Rosharans have spent the past four books using their own swears. -
Dunno, but I dearly hope we get an epic throw down between them. Admittedly, this is partially because I hate Moash with a passion that burns hotter than a thousand suns, and we know that at least Marsh’s reputation is around for Tress so presumably he’d win that fight.

Why so much hate on the debate?

I thought that was the weaker argument. AFAIK, there’s nothing preventing them from trading with lands under Odium’s control. The terms might not be great, but the length of the contract between Odium and Dalinar was, what, 1000 years? I don’t see how trade restrictions matter for the first 900 years. -
He certainly is smart… At the moment he seems rather distracted with the ten monkey wrenches Dalinar threw into his plans, so I guess we’ll see if he thinks to do it (personally I think he will, but I won’t be shocked if he doesn’t).

Wasn’t there speculation that Odium had help killing some of the other shards? Maybe 2 of them combined into “Unity” before they died? Although, as best I can recall, Dominion and Devotion were the only ones together, and I’m not sure “Unity” is the word I’d use to describe a merger between those two. Anyway, could that be the “we”?

She could leave and come back. Like, maybe Urithiru runs out of organic beef so she hops on over to Scadrial to buy some of theirs? Oh! Maybe she’ll get her ears pierced at that one store in the mall while she’s there…

We saw his soul do that stretching thing in Shadesmar, so… by the rules as we know them, “He’s dead, Jim”. The only thing that gives me pause is that line about “his soul belongs to another” (that’s probably not an exact quote… I don’t have the book in front of me). Odd phrasing, unless I just missed the point.

Does anyone else think Mraize is the most annoying character?
TheOtherDave replied to Gnmish's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think the key phrase there is “that we have seen”. If they never accomplished anything at all, they’d probably be a smaller, less-feared group. Also, it’s not really true. The Ghostbloods got that soulcaster from somewhere, and the only reason they didn’t manage to kill Jasnah is they didn’t know she could teleport away and heal herself from being stabbed through the freakin’ heart. -
The Alethi don’t seem to mind homosexuality, so I suppose it depends on whether Listeners have barbed genitals or something and what exactly Renarin and Rlain both want out of a relationship. Speaking of Rlain, do we actually know he’s gay, or is that just assumed from his comment about an “embarrassing surprise” when he tried mateform?
-
Yeah, but if the Taravangian's clever about how he splits Odium, the portion he's left with might have an Intent more compatible with his goals. He wouldn't be doing it to get out of the deal, he'd be doing it so that he didn't have to deal with Odium's Intent clouding his judgment. At least that's what I was thinking.
-
Maybe he's so crazy he looped back around to sanity?
-
Dunno. Also, do we know if the book ends after day 10 (well, and an epilogue), or does stuff happen after the battle? If it goes on for a while there could be some interludes there, too.
-
Ooohhh yeah that makes sense.

WRT Cultivation’s response, I thought it was interesting that she referred to healing as “action against” (emphasis mine). Not sure what to make of it… seems like someone who “cultivates” would approve, but then based on some of her other comments it seems she might have a very Darwinian view of the term, so maybe she’s playing such a long game that she doesn’t see individuals the way you or I would. WRT to the fact such restrictions exist, yeah, that whole section has me really wondering what exactly Odium agreed to and how Honor and Cultivation convinced him to do it.

Wind and Truth: Chapters 5 and 6
TheOtherDave replied to CtrlAltDepressed's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wait, what? Lost Metal happens between Stormlight 1-5 and 6-10. Unless something’s changed there’s only supposed to be a 10-15 year gap between the two SA halves… how do you figure there’s time Mistborn Era 3 in there, too?
