JustQuestin2004 he/him Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Just had a crazy thought: Kandra using Unsealed Metalminds to augment themselves. Iron Medallions: The ability to alter their weight, even just by storing it to make themselves lighter, would be a huge boon to their shapeshifting abilities. By making themselves lighter, they could assume larger forms, like a Chasmfiend for instance, without needing to worry about crushing themselves under their own weight. Could you imagine if a Kandra turned into Godzilla? That would be awesome. Maybe they could make a really big metal True Body? They could also be able to become far more agile, even potentially forming wings and flying if they kept some bird bones on hand. Copper Medallions: Kandra are skilled actors, but what if they had the ability to force their targets to give them memories of themselves before eating them? They would be even better at mimicking their targets since they'd have their direct thoughts and feelings on hand to work with. Duralumin Medallions: Why bother with learning a language when you can just speak it? Accent will probably be an issue. Also filling them would help them be even sneakier, by reducing other's awareness of them. Brass Medallions: Not super interesting, extra warmth would just be convenient for cold temperatures. Storing would probably make them fire-proof or just very resistant, so there's that. Who knows what else is possible, hopefully we see Kandra make use of these Medallions by Era 3, just so many possibilities by combining universal Feruchemy with a Shapeshifter. 3

Oxygen, nutrients, and body heat could still be an issue with enough mass (though cadmium, Bendalloy, and brass can circumvent this if needed), but overall this would greatly increase the power and versatility of any Kandra's repertoire. Easy flight and buoyancy, added agility and speed, total allowed mass, extra muscle, it would all be very potent in the right circumstances. Skeletons getting the ability to reduce weight might be harder, but if you can get an airship to do it, figuring it out for a True Body shouldn't be too difficult. Kandra cannot turn into such larger creatures, they are still limited by their physical mass, which as about that of adult human. Theoretically, if you fed them enough people sure, but they would then be limited to creatures of that size.

Kandra could gain the mass by just eating a lot of meat, eating the giant creature in question if they could subdue it. Mistwraiths can reach very large sizes on their own, so a Kandra could also probably do it, it just wouldn't be very quick. I'm pretty sure that they can shed excess mass whenever they want, the only part of their body that is actually vital is their brain and they can shift that around anywhere they want.

I dont know about shedding mass, if its possible or what it might cost them, but at worst I think Kaiju-form might just be something they could get trapped in Edit: for a while. It would provide all tools necessary for a Kandra to (eventually) mimic and hide as a Chasmfiend or similar kaiju greatshell on Roshar. The only thing stopping them from growing themselves that large is the Gravity issue all the greatshells already face, and this should be a perfectly viable alternative to spren for solving that problem. Edit: Shedding Confirmed Edited October 24, 2024 by Quantus 1

Melaan confirmed the possibility of Kandra shedding mass in SoS, such as by forcing it down a drain when creating a disguise. Otherwise they'd be too large each time they tried to mimic a human. Elite01 Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 If they turned into a bird would they also need the feathers like they need to use the hair of mammals? 1
