The man nodded to her companions. “I suspects they are with you? How many rooms will that be, then?”

“Nah. They’re the ones talking to someone they can’t see.” The Burnt Grinned wickedly.

Note: it’s certainly a good idea to get all your information from insanity personified.

I don’t think I would either.

Yes. It reminds me of... of our hopes for the world, before Madness took control, and after we bound her with the Archstone.

“And I control the wind, so I can control the spirits.” He concentrates, trying to send messages to his companions.

Excellent point.

Cole elbows @Spark of Hope. “That was a pretty good story. Where did you learn it?”

“Uh- my friend taught it to me.”

“Nice. I’d love to meet your friend; mine don’t teach very much, we just know each other. Most of the people I know are clumsy, too; it’s a hazard of being a carpenter.”

“I would think the opposite is true,” she said, looking away from him.

Cole continues, not noticing that she’s trying to end the conversation (I think. Maybe my social awareness isn’t up to spec either). “I get to know people who are common customers. I was friends with some other carpenters on the ship… but that didn’t end well.”

Mirth’s prior warning echoed in her head, but… she was curious. “What ship?”

The Burnt Man faltered. "No... they are no longer on the wind. Once that might have worked... but no longer."

"I'd bet one of those spirits once on the wind taught her." The Burnt Man snickered.

What is the Archstone?

A blueprint... but that carries an incorrect connotation. It implies the Archstone is a creation of Intellect, when it is really of Madness. It is what she used to bind the world to reality; it was the source of most her power before she agreed to bind herself away from the world. She was curious, you see, what would happen should she abandon this world. But doing this also removed her influence upon us, allowing us agency. But... she did not like what happened with her withdrawal... and the Servants are a result of that. Manipulating the proximity of threads of the Archstone, pulling on them, to bend reality. Intellect would have a better explanation.

It is... Never mind. That is not relevant. Only Madness or her Servants can use it to its fullest power... its design is too complex. Intellect has studied it since Madness was bound, but to no avail.

Guys the correlation between these two dialogues is a complete coincidence... it just worked out perfectly.

Cole hunches a bit, as if hiding, but continues. “I was a ship carpenter, once.  A fire on the ship killed many of my friends and destroyed the cargo, ruining the captain. I left, and I haven’t been at sea since, because land carpentry doesn’t ruin lives if you fail it.”

“They sound unpleasant and self righteous. Freedom is important. Perhaps we could reason with them.”
