Do we think Dalinar will ever find out what Gavilar really thought about him? And if he did, how would he react?

Because Jasnah and Navani at least acknowledge that Gavilar had bad traits and saw it more, whereas Dalinar seems to still hero-worship his brother as of the latest chapters.

Cuts me up a little inside to hear how Dalinar thinks of his brother vs how Gavilar thought of him.

I think this will happen, eventually the Stormfather will reveal to Dalinar that he was forming a bond with Gavilar and chose him as a champion (as I believe it was the real Stormfather). I don't think the Stormfather is purposefully hiding all of this from Dalinar, rather he simply doesn't understand human ways - if you don't ask, he won't even think about telling you this. But I also think he won't tell him everything about what he wanted to do with Gavilar, he might keep some secrets.

OB ch 64:

Quote

“When … when were you thinking of informing me of this?”
When you asked. When else would I speak of it?

When Dalinar will find out the truth, I think he will be disappointed, betrayed, angry and maybe even a little bit relieved? In this recent chapter he thought that Gavilar would do better than him, but if he learns the truth, he might be more confident, thinking it is the better and more honorable choice for Roshar. He definitely is doing better than Gavilar would have done in his place, so this knowledge might bring him a little bit of relief. Maybe, or maybe not, it's hard to say, those are just my wild speculations.

I hadn't considered that take of him taking comfort from it, but I like it! The fact that he has already outdone Gavilar and been better for Roshar, and that the Stormfather himself thinks he is better suited than his brother. (I'm also not on the Stormfaker train.)

He does have limited means of doing so.

Stormfather - or Stormfaker ;) - clearly didn't know Gavilar thoughts (such as making Dalinar remember Evi death on purpose).

Most damning was "Dalinar is a big, dumb, blunt instrument you apply to problems until they break" - but Dalinar probably wouldn't disagree. Thats what he really was. He had potential, but didn't realize it back then.

Frankly the tragic part in Gavilar -Dalinar relationship is that Gavilar clearly is scared of Dalinar under thrill - and rightfully so. Dalinar did want to kill him. Sure, he got this under control, but Gavilar reasons for being scared of Dalinar are good and if Dalinar learned of this - well, again he would agree.
