  1. Do you think it'd look better if the words were on a stylistic ribbon/banner or just by it? I've always struggled with how the women's script ends up looking, tbh.
  2. I want to get the Knights Radiant symbol tattooed on my chest and want to include a quote but not sure how to place it or what quote to use. I put it here because of the idea of the quotes could be spoiler-y. I was thinking of "always the next step" but not sure where it would be placed properly (or stylistically) or if that's the best option for the knights radiant symbol overall.
  3. Did kaladin actually get the tattoo?
  4. Little equation I just wrote up # Cosmere "gravity math": Lashings (L) × Feruchemical Iron (I) # Definitions # m = true mass (baseline) # g = normal gravitational acceleration # L = Lashing multiplier on g (1 = 1g, 2 = 2g, etc.) # I = Feruchemical iron multiplier on effective weight/inertia # W = weight (force due to gravity) # a = resulting acceleration # Step 1 — Baseline weight W = m * g # Step 2 — Apply a Lashing (modifies gravitational acceleration) g' = L * g W_L = m * g' = m * (L * g) # Step 3 — Apply Feruchemical Iron (scales effective weight/inertia) W_LI = I * W_L = I * m * (L * g) # Step 4 — Newton’s 2nd Law (equate total force to m * a) F = m * a # Step 5 — Set gravitational/Invested force equal to m * a m * a = I * m * (L * g) # Step 6 — Cancel m (m ≠ 0) and solve for a a = I * L * g Taken further to introduce drag: # From Iron+Lashing → adding aerodynamic drag (step-by-step) # GIVEN DEFINITIONS # m = true mass # g0 = baseline gravity # L = Lashing multiplier on gravity (1 = 1g, 2 = 2g, etc.) # I = Feruchemical iron multiplier (I<1 storing; I>1 tapping) # ρ = air density # Cd = drag coefficient # A = reference area # k = 0.5 * ρ * Cd * A (drag constant) # v = speed along the acceleration direction # 1) Lashings only (no iron, no drag) # a = L * g0 # 2) Include Feruchemical iron as an external force multiplier # F_total = I * m * (L * g0) # Using F = m * a: # m * a = I * m * (L * g0) # a = I * L * g0 # (This is our previously derived endpoint.) # 3) Introduce quadratic drag opposing motion # F_drag = k * v^2 (opposite direction) # 4) Write Newton’s 2nd Law with drag # m * dv/dt = I * m * (L * g0) - k * v^2 # 5) Divide by m to get the acceleration ODE # dv/dt = I * L * g0 - (k/m) * v^2 # 6) Terminal velocity (dv/dt = 0) # 0 = I * L * g0 - (k/m) * v_t^2 # (k/m) * v_t^2 = I * L * g0 # v_t = sqrt( (I * L * g0 * m) / k ) # = sqrt( (2 * I * L * g0 * m) / (ρ * Cd * A) ) # 7) Optional variant if you treat iron as scaling inertia too: # Let m_eff = I * m, so: # (I * m) * dv/dt = I * m * (L * g0) - k * v^2 # dv/dt = L * g0 - (k / (I * m)) * v^2 # Terminal velocity (dv/dt = 0): # v_t = sqrt( (I * L * g0 * m) / k ) # same result as Step 6 Summary # ODE with drag (standard form): # dv/dt = I * L * g0 - (k/m) * v^2 # (or L * g0 - k/(I m) * v^2 if inertia scales) # Terminal velocity: # v_t = sqrt( (2 * I * L * g0 * m) / (ρ * Cd * A) )
  5. Lashing affects gravity. Weight is a measure of gravity's pull on you (roughly). If they stored 100%, ofntheir weight, I think their lashing would be less effective because it would reduce the pull their lashing is having on them.
  6. The problem ls that this would require two metal properties- aluminum and duralumin because aluminum shields but duralumin doesn't. We don't see Bronze having the effect of noth Bronze and Copper. Besides, if it was duralumin there'd be no reason to be so circumspect about what it is from a writing perspective. This is also the clash where some anti investiture was created. I also want to posit that Brandon has revealed Braize has a unique attribute at its core that attracts investiture abd Canticle also has a unique interaction with investiture. Whatever the fourth moon is, it was part of the overall construction Adonalsium placed in the system. Like...some sort of machine where Roshar. The fourth moon (maybe the other three as well), and Braize act as individual parts.
  7. I could see this if we assume the glowing is due to the plate not being fully dead now.
  8. I am relistening to Words of Radiance and realized something - the first time Taravangian and the diagram fail is when Kaladin fights and beats Szeth. The diagram saw many people and was almost assuredly made with access to fortune. It didn't see Kaladin specifically. It saw that some people would get oaths but the existence of Kaladin was the first thing that beat taravangian. Later, in Wind and Truth, Ishar says he did not "see" Kaladin in his plans. We know Ishar accessed fortune. The Wind clearly has access to fortune. Has the wind been influencing Kaladin in subtle ways causing him to be hard to see with Fortune? I think the only time we know that someone DID foresee things about him was Odium when he told Rayse that Kaladin would become more dangerous.
  9. Ive been considering this and the nature of the nahel bond. Honor is becoming self aware so at some point it may not want a vessel but may decide it needs a nahel bond to develop further since it is a melding of souls. It would still be its own being acting of its own will but it would be receiving part of a humans soul to help it grow - like Dalinar and the stormfather The problem with this is that their unoathed scene technically Ll takes place before the battle starts on the top of urithiru.
  10. Honestly im not sure that the heralds are stuck on roshar anymore. Spren are able to leave the subastral now
  11. Shallan didn't suck. Her plot just didn't matter.
  12. To be honest, a lot of what we see sounds like feruchemy and allomancy in effect even if not mechanics. Limited future sight and drastically enhanced physical abilities.
  13. I liked it because if reinforces hos Taravangian puts up a front. He talks about doing what's best for everyone but that's not it. It's about power for himself.
  14. I was thinking about the Nohadon stuff with this, to be honest. We still don't really have an explanation for those visions - especially the last one which seemed not to be made by Dalinar while holding Honor.
  15. or Dragonsteel
  16. Just thinking: Could there have been a better answer to the Odium problem if Wit had given his dawnshard to Dalinar before the final challenge? Everything else going the same....I feel like having a Dawnshard would enable him to defeat Odium without mass destruction.
  17. Taravangian died but Honor stayed alive, becoming sentient. This caused Cultivation, Odium, and the Stormfather to work together to banish the increasingly erratic sapient shard to the Spiritual Realm. Kaladin will not die in the conventional sense. He will either live, ascend, or somehow stay around as a cognitive shadow. Shallan is pregnant but we won't find out until the epilogue as a setupbforba potential viewpoint character for the future kaolin heirs. All humans on roshar have some singer blood - indicated by the strange hair genetics on roshar. Zahel was working with Gavilar as a part of a small secret group ran by Gavilar. He wasn't coerced but WAS tricked by Gavilar hiding that he was also trying to bring back the Fused- not just prepare to stop them. Discovering this betrayal is what leads Zahel to give up on preventing war/possibly somehow led to him losing Nightblood to the Nightwatcher. We will finally see Azure confront Zahel. Chana Davar The unmade heavily influence Shallan's mother and was part of what drove her to trying to kill Shallan. This was set up directly by Odium long ago as he foresaw that driving Chana insane could lead to another return. Cultivation made a mistake with Taravangian. The "cannot see into their hearts" line will end up having a lot of meaning when understood with Dalinars critique of Taravangian wanting to be the one who solved thr crisis. Cultivation didn't understand that Taravangian wasn't selfless to begin with. Kaladin will meet someone new and it will hint at a relationship with them. Dalinar loses but the stormfather is killed first which takes away Dalinar's position as the one speaking for Honor so he's just a Fused Blackthorn without any bondsmithing craziness.
  18. I guess that was my main point: I don't think they're being used that way. The exceptions to the shards working the way they do make sense in my head. The magic systems seem to work consistently and are built up to in my mind, as well. I DO have an issue with the ghost bloods bringing answers too easily. He does it well by building the organization up the entire book and introducing things like the purified dor relatively before it is important but it was a large amount of information being dumped on us suddenly which made it hard.
  19. Light is no more a way to make powers vague than metal reserves are - Sanderson just uses it more. The only time metal reserves are an issue is if duralumin is used or they are using Atium. The cameos are an issue since their powers aren't explored enough in the book, though. They said, i know the law being referenced but I disagree about our level of understanding. If they act directly they risk an opening for the other shard to kill them. Harmony doesn't have another shard to worry about and Ruin only had to worry about preservation. Autonomy knows Harmony is hindered and acted through a proxy (Avatar). Cultivation visited them and acted directly when Odium was still on Braize and restricted in action. I can agree we don't know exactly where the line is drawn. My biggest example would be Kaladin. Was the connection through Moash needed because that makes it okay for Odium to do without risking his life or was that somehow not considered direct action? Other than that we mainly see them creating things to work for them, talking to people, or subtly pulling strings. It feels a little contrived but going into the book I know that the shards can't just clear the way for our heroes or villains because that direct action would lead to their death unless the individual puts themselves under their power.
  20. I really don't think the back half will be about Odium vs Honor. I think that's the front half conflict regardless of how it ends.
  21. My issue with this is that reforging the Oathpact would kind of undo the work of the last two books showing that this isn't a one-sided conflict of good versus evil. It's just not good from a narrative aspect disregarding the fact Odium has already implied it wouldn't work.
  22. It was explicitly stated that it is in the Spiritual Realm.
  23. They don't have to "find" Honor after finding it in the Spiritual Realm. Honor - the shard - exists solely in the Spiritual right now. It's not sitting in the physical or cognitive somewhere waiting to be grabbed.
  24. True, but we also know from Rhythm of War that the method of using the Oathpact to keep the Fused back wouldn't work anyway so there's no reason to reforge the Oathpact or replace a Herald.
  25. We have literally only seen two operations outside of Shallan's missions - both attempts to kill Jasnah. This seems weirdly judgmental of the group as incompetent when all that we've seen from them has ended up largely successful.
