Voidus Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 Are the Inquisition sorcerers in the courtyard or in the Tower itself somewhere? I'm trying to do a post and I realized that since he's not in uniform not many would recognize Samuel as an Inquisitor. Is there some form of ID he could have?
Mailliw73 he/him Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I think I'll wait for Khuvlai to post until Bran comes out of the palace. That's when they'll meet up.
BreathTaker he/him Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 I'm going to post right now, sorry I haven't been on. I went to Vegas for New Years and got stuck there an extra night due to weather between there and home... plus I've been devouring Towers of Midnight so it's been hard for me to tear myself away.
Seonid he/him Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 That is one excellent post, BreathTaker! And no problem about the time elapsed. We've all been busy over New Year's (at least it seemed like it from my less-frequent visits to the forums...it looked like much fewer people were on, even the regulars), and Towers of Midnight is a bulletproof excuse. I'm liking Bran more and more! Oh, and one other thing. Since there hasn't been any feedback on the spell system, and since this is a free-form RPG, I'm going to relax the magic rules. Pretty much, the spell points and power costs are more guidelines than actual rules. Reasoning - 1 - it is rather difficult to actually keep track of all of these different spells/points using a play-by-post mechanism 2 - there isn't actually a mechanism to keep track of day and night 3 - this game is meant to be about story, not mechanics I do plan on keeping the spell points system for when I eventually make a pen and paper RPG in this setting. It seems excellently suited for that sort of thing.
BreathTaker he/him Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Hey Joe, you could probably post your point of view of the whole thing. I loved Fen's POV.
Voidus Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Are the Inquisition sorcerers in the courtyard or in the Tower itself somewhere? I'm trying to do a post and I realized that since he's not in uniform not many would recognize Samuel as an Inquisitor. Is there some form of ID he could have? Just because I think you missed it
Seonid he/him Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Yep, I missed that one. Sorry Voidus! The sorcerers are in the Tower itself. All Inquisition agents (but not necessarily all Inquisition-aligned soldiers) have a tattoo of the black cross on the inside of their upper arm. That serves as a permanent identity marker (and the size/quantity of the serifs at the end of the cross lines indicate the rank of the agent). However, the inside of the upper arm is hard to show off in random conversation, so there is also a secret handshake (actually, several) to identify agents working undercover.
BreathTaker he/him Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Ok, really quickly. I have weapon names for most of Bran's weapons. Gungir: Of course the name of the spear of Odin, crafted by dwarves and given by Loki. Bran named it after a Svalding war hero. Balmung: Odin's sword in the tree that Sigmund was able to draw but was broken by Odin and Sigmund's son Sigfreid reforged (A mix between Excalibur and Andruril) Bran's father Marik's long sword. Jotunfist: Couldn't find the Norse word for fist but basically "Giant's fist". Bran's grandfather's war hammer. (Also, basically Perrin's Power-wrought hammer) Allenir: It's a knock off of Perrin's "Hopper" hammer but in axe form. Also Bran's grandfather's. Svalin: Norse mythology, the shield that keeps Midgard from burning up from the sun... so I guess the Ozone. Bran's Svalding shield carried with Balmung. It is painted red with a Raven in the center. Anyone want to help with enchantments that aren't OP? I will be working on armor too but I've only got another half hour with computer access until tomorrow. Also, Bran only rarely uses Allenir and Jotunfist. He normally carries Gungnir and Balmund with Svalin on his back into battle. He's obviously an expert spearman but is well versed in Long sword usage with a shield and Hammer/Axe fighting. His short sword technique is good but against and expert swordsman he doesn't really stand a chance.
Voidus Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I think I'm going to drop out of this. I think one RP for now is enough. Sorry to see you go Winter! I hope that post was alright with the magic.
Seonid he/him Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 Winter Cloud, thanks for the time you spent here. We enjoyed having you, and hope to see you back sometime. I'll write up a closing post for your character (get her injured and put her in a recovery place for if you come back or someone else wants her), if that's alright. Voidus, the magic was definitely in-bounds. That was a very Inquisitor-y thing to do. And the post was excellent. I really like the character you've got there. Question though (I'm assuming that the squires that came in the tower with Shuster blocked the doors behind them, I'll have to go back and read the passage again), how did Samuel get in through the outer walls of the prison. Through one of the postern gates?
BreathTaker he/him Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 (edited) Hey boss, if you get the time could you post Bran meeting with the King. You can take Bran over if you want as to point everything in the right direction. You can PM me and Bran and the king can talk there and you can transcribe it that way you get his tone right. Also, if I wanted to write a short flashback, would I post it in the story or on here? Ok, so I'm going to post a huge wall of text back story/flashback here and a more recent flashback in the RP itself. Holy Storms, I didn't realize I wrote so much. Bran, son of Marik, son of Dvalin “The Wolf” fought a terrible battle this day. His spear digging into the stomach of a man whom he had once played staves with as a child; another who had died earlier, was an old hunting friend from his earliest days in the woods. A single tear slid down the Svalding’s cheek as he ripped the spear free. It was saddening how so small a thing as a clan feud could spark all out war between two tribes who had been neighbors for two generations. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be! He thought to himself as he engaged the next man to die. Why do we kill those we once considered friends? The thought sprung into his head unbidden. It is simply the way of things, a man cannot let an insult go unchallenged; his uncle had once told him when he asked the very same question as a child, he still didn’t understand. Another man lay dead at his feet. Bran was one of the best spear fighters in the Odinsen tribe, almost as good as the legendary Gungnir if the elders were to be believed, and they used that to their advantage. Putting him at the head of the assult “A place of honor,” they had called it, he knew better. Bran asked too many difficult questions, thought too differently from those in a position of strength. They said it was unnatural for the grandson of the Clan Chief to dislike war so much. The Elders were wrong on that part. Bran didn’t hate war, he understood its purpose. To defend who and what you held dear. To protect your lands from outlanders who came to destroy your friends and family. No, Bran didn’t hate war. He hated the needless slaughter of potential allies and long time friends over the smallest insult. He hated being forced to fight for a cause he didn’t believe in. Yet another man laid dead, blank eyes staring upwards to the gods, his blood feeding the grass. Live well in the halls of your fathers, friend. ***** That night, after the long day of battle, the Elders had picked a new clan chief. Both Marik and the Mighty Wolf had fallen to the blades of their neighbors to the east. The Elders would not pick Bran to lead their tribe saying, “He’s only sixteen, too young to lead a tribe,” instead of the truth, “He is too different from us; let us cast him out instead.” The Elders had given Bran his forefather’s weapons in a ceremony of the dead, passing the souls of the departed to protect their bloodline. His father’s long sword and shield, Balmung and Svalinn; as well as Dvalin’s axe and hammer, Allenir and Jotunfist. After the ceremony Bran retreated to his hut for contemplation as was expected. Instead of contemplating on the battle and the loss of his family members, he did what should have been done long before. He packed. Strapping Allenir and Jotunfist crosswise across his back with Svalinn overtop of them and Balmung at his hip, he grabbed his spear with four raven feathers hanging below the head and donned his elk hide and fox pelt cloak. Lastly he grabbed his hunting bow, quiver full of raven fletched arrows, and extra clothes. He had no need to pack any food or water because both were plentiful in the Svalding forests. Quiet as a mouse, he snuck out the back of his hut and made his way to the nearby river dock. Once there he found a small, shallow keeled boat and loaded his supplies on to it. Finally jumped in and pushed off, down the river into unknown lands. ***** Over the next five years Bran truly grew in to a man. He had travelled far and seen many new things. He had also fought in a few small wars. He trained with whatever weapons he could, his sword, axe, hammer and spear with plans to become the best warrior he could. At one point he was taken in by a small band of Nessei and lived with them, they had laughed at him for his pale skin, hulking size and long braided hair and beard, as well as his steel blue eyes. But they also respected him for his honor and his ability to handle himself in a fight. Soon after, he made his way to Al’Linde, The Court of the Gods. There he found a fight he could believe in, fighting against evil and defending justice as well as those who could not defend themselves. Bran signed up to fight as a spearman in the front lines and he fought there for three years before becoming a squad leader and eventually a sergeant. Eventually, his commanding officer, a Paladin named Tyrr who also had Svalding blood, discovered that Bran had the potential to be a sorcerer. Bran was immediately whisked away to the Paladin training center where he advanced in his training at a remarkable speed. In just three years he had been bonded by his now dearest friend and familiar Fenrison and graduated to the rank of Paladin. Now, a decade later Bran son of Marik son of Dvalin, was a Banner-General for the Legion of the Tribunal. Given his own house and lands near the Holy City he took the surname of Mariksen along with the Raven as his standard. His armor was lacquered black and red and shone in the sunlight; if one looked closely enough they could see Svalding runes etched along the backs of the gauntlets, the front of the helmet and behind the Raven on his chest. Bran Mariksen was a Paladin of the Tribunal but he was also a Svalding warrior. He was not a man born for parades and laurels, but for war and blood. Edited January 10, 2015 by BreathTaker 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Hey Joe, you could probably post your point of view of the whole thing. I loved Fen's POV. Sorry, I was offline for the past four days. I might do that tomorrow, if I've gotten caught up on the rest of the site.
Seonid he/him Posted January 11, 2015 Author Posted January 11, 2015 Sounds good BreathTaker. I'll look through the backstory in more detail too, but it looks good to me. I'm off until Monday, though, so I'll see y'all then. And Joe, I hope that you have gotten your homework under control! Welcome back!!
Seonid he/him Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Alright. I'm going to try and get back in the swing of the Edassan business. (Sanderson Elimination is very fun, but it takes so much time) Here is a list of the things I still have to get for people, ranked by how pressing the need is for them to be finished: - Spell Books for Voidus and Mailliw - Get Quiver the information on his character's religion - More Svalding details for Breathtaker (including ideas for enchantments) - Post maps of Menkor and the nearby area - Post world maps - Create new worldbuilding thread (in the Creator's Corner) with most of the background/cosmology/how does magic work info. Update the OP to be more focused on the RP threads. - Write a short story in Edassa for January's prompt (I realize that it's not RP stuff, but it is Edassa stuff. If anyone's curious, I have posted a story involving a Tribunal winter festival here. I just wanted to place this here so that I could check them off publicly (It's a motivational help for me). After I finish these, I'll post an RP response to Shuster (Unodus) and Samuel (Voidus). If it's OK with both of you, I'm going to retcon that Samuel got in through the northern postern gate (which was only lightly guarded), and that the two squires who went with Shuster barricaded the door behind them before following him. I'll have one of their viewpoints, as well as one from the courtyard. I'll probably split it up into a three-parter, and include a part with Bran and the king, too. Unodus he/him Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Sounds awesome! If you need help with maps- I have access to photoshop and a bamboo tablet, perhaps I could lend a hand? :V
Quiver he/him Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 (edited) Sounds awesome! If you need help with maps- I have access to photoshop and a bamboo tablet, perhaps I could lend a hand? :V Another sad victim of the Pandaspren.Anyway! I... haven't thought much about the character Iimentioned before...sorry! I've been kind of busy....though, since you guys just lost a fighter (ie, Winter), would you prefer if I came up with something more combat orientated than "hippy priest"? Seonid he/him Posted January 15, 2015 Author Posted January 15, 2015 Another sad victim of the Pandaspren. Anyway! I... haven't thought much about the character Iimentioned before...sorry! I've been kind of busy....though, since you guys just lost a fighter (ie, Winter), would you prefer if I came up with something more combat orientated than "hippy priest"? We are not especially running this as a party-type game, so balance of roles really isn't an issue. I'd say to go for whatever character type you most want to play. 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 10 days ago, this was a bustling land, full of Warriors and Priests. Why have they been forsaken?
Mailliw73 he/him Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I think There's just a few people waiting on Seonid and he's been busy lately.
Seonid he/him Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 (edited) 10 days ago, this was a bustling land, full of Warriors and Priests. Why have they been forsaken? I think There's just a few people waiting on Seonid and he's been busy lately. That is probably a wholly and completely correct answer. I'm going to move my post up on the priorities list, so that the RP isn't waiting on (more) backstory. Sorry about the wait all y'all. Apparently working 40 hours while going to college is more time-consuming than I thought. EDIT: I just posted in the RP. It isn't all I wanted to get, so expect (probably tomorrow) a post with an Inquisitor's reaction to the fireball, as well as a Lord Earney section where he gets the gates open. But I hope that it helps move the story forward. Edited January 21, 2015 by Seonid 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 No Problem. I just don't want this to go the t\way Tamriel did.
BreathTaker he/him Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Sorry I've been gone. We are kind of emergency house searching (family drama forcing us to move) and I've been depressed. I finished the Wheel of Time series last weekend and I totally didn't cry or post an unhealthy amount of quotes on facebook.. nope not at all.
Unodus he/him Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 Ok, I've made my move- sorry if I'm forcing a confrontation, but we've got to meet each other eventually, right? And, in case it wasn't entirely obvious, Voidus- I do fully intend to cheat via chronomancy >:3
Voidus Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 (edited) Sorry Unodus, I've been a bit distracted by other RPs and waiting for a list of spells from Seonid. I'll try to get a response up soon. Edited January 25, 2015 by Voidus
