Moogle Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 does any one know when stormlight book three is coming out?? like not a exacte date or anything just an estimate. There's been a few different dates thrown out, but Fall 2016 is the one I remember Brandon saying a while back. (Maybe someone will chime in with a more recent estimate - I wouldn't expect any later than Summer 2017.) If you haven't seen it, Brandon keeps his progress noted on his website: http://brandonsanderson.com/ Stormlight's at 21% of the first draft right now. I was are of that bit, was just curious if he could do it whilst his D-Breath was suppressed. it would actually be nice to know what is actually going on in that regard, does he still count as highly invested or is he hiding/pushing the investiture elsewhere, perhaps into the Cognitive realm (that is so going on my list now) Sorry - I was replying to natc. I was unsure of the answer to your question, so I didn't post anything. It's a good question if you're going to ask it, though. (I would guess hiding his DB doesn't change anything, but I'm not at all confident.) 1
WeiryWriter he/him Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I believe the current estimate is Christmastime 2016. 1
Arkangel_for_Orcas he/him Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Hello hello im new to the forums and i want to ask a question about worldhopping from the Elantris world. Are the aeons with insane glyphs(?) possibly used to travel to another world? I assume someone who does that would lose connection to the power and would be stuck. And maybe how it starts for Galladon and Demoux?
natc Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 If you managed to calculate the exact direction and distance to another planet from the position you are standing at, factoring the rotation of Sel (the planet Elantris is on), its revolution around its sun, the whole solar system's movement relative to the destination, etc. And you gotta realize you're talking about distances in lightyears, so where you observe the planet to be is not where the planet is; you need to "predict" its current position based on what you know as well. Factor in the time it would take you to actually do all this maths then draw the aon. Once you miraculously pull it off, you can presumably arrive at the planet you want to reach. But of course you can't come back anymore since you're too far from Arelon. And that's assuming there's actually enough power from the Dor on top of Elantris' giant Aon Rao's boost to send you that far, I suppose. 4
Arkangel_for_Orcas he/him Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Right, makes sense. Then they would have to use the pool anyways. But i remember Sanderson siad that Galladon misinterpreted an aeon that would lead to something like that. Is that moment in the book and i missed it or is it relevant somewhere else?

There is a WoB either on the AMA or Theoryland that clears it up, or the AMA expands on it, one sec. From the AMA topic; http://www.reddit.co...a8e9x?context=3 cemonal: Hey Brandon. I have two questions: Is the Aon that Raoden misinterpreted Rao? If yes, does it mean "gateway" or something similar? Brandon: Which one are you talking about specifically? Phantine: You gave a hint in a signed book at one point World Hopping Hint in Elantris: Raodenhas misinterpreted one of the Aons. I think that's what cemonal is referring to. WeiryWriter: If I'm understanding them correctly they are refering to the "Big Hint" you've said there is about Worldhopping in Elantris, which you later explained as being an Aon that Raoden misinterprets. They are proposing that the Aon is Aon Rao (I think?). At least that's my current guess (though my guess is that Rao actually translates to "Investiture"). Brandon: Ah... They're on the wrong track. I'll cut this one off right here, as I see they're misinterpreting what I said. It's more simple than that, and is something I think they have probably already figured out. The "Big Hint" I put back in Elantris are the murals Raoden and company discover. I believe this is what we're talking about, not the Aon being misinterpreted. WeiryWriter: Ah, okay. That actually kind of makes me happy because that's what I and some (most?) others originally thought the Big Hint was but then someone who went to last summer's London signing reported that the Big Hint was actually a misinterpreted Aon. Of course that was a paraphrased report, so obviously something got lost between what you said and what got posted. Thanks for the course correction. EDIT: Do we have a timeframe of when Rock saw Hoid coming out pool to the start of the main story? And has it been answered exactly as to what place/world Hoid was coming from when he exited? Arkangel_for_Orcas he/him Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Thank you Paradox. Very helpfull 1
StijnArnauts Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Added. Moogle, could I be added as well?

The Sovereign Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) I recently bought a signed/personalized copy of Words of Radiance as it was one that I didn't have in my collection. I asked for the title of a herald that we didn't yet know. Answer: Nalan, Herald of Judgement. Yup, I got jipped. Sadface. Edited September 22, 2015 by Iron Eyes

natc Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 We do use the word "Justice" more though . . . Which reminds me, he's been doing way too much of the executioner's job lately and not enough of the judge's. Yet another way he's a bit screwed up.
The Sovereign Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 We do use the word "Justice" more though . . . Which reminds me, he's been doing way too much of the executioner's job lately and not enough of the judge's. Yet another way he's a bit screwed up. You actually bring this into an interesting light, Justice and Judgement are not necessarily the same thing. I would argue that Nalan is currently doing quite a bit more (brutal) judgement than actually serving justice. This may be nitpicking but Brandon may have been very subtly telling me that the In book view of Nalan's purpose is slightly skewed. Then again it may have simply been him dodging giving out new information as if I hadn't already read Words of Radiance it would be a new answer.
ParadoxicalZen he/him Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) I don't have my book handy and i can't recall off the top of my head, but in what book did Vin not meet Hoid due to a feeling, was it WoA or HoA? Edited September 22, 2015 by ParadoxSpren
ParadoxicalZen he/him Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Hero of Ages, in Fadrex City. Ta muchly. Hmm, it links in to a WoB I've just read but couldn't be sure due to timing and other explanations

IBNobody Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 So... I have a question I plan on asking Brandon, but I wanted to hear about it from all of you first. Brandon loves to name things after elements in his worlds. Names have meanings. It makes me wonder about "Nahel" from the "Nahel bond". A bond between a spren and a human isn't just any bond, it's a Nahel bond. Do you think Nahel was a person, place, or thing?
Arkangel_for_Orcas he/him Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 So two questions. Is it Axies that Rysn meets on the island greatshell? And, im assuming from the detail of the Stormlight Archive, Alethi writing is learnable?

And, im assuming from the detail of the Stormlight Archive, Alethi writing is learnable? 1. I think the general consensus is yes, but off the top of my head I don't know if it actually has been confirmed 2. Yeah, there's a topic on the various scripts of SA somewhere 1
Oudeis he/him Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 If by alethi writing you simply mean the characters that translate to phonemes as we know them, yes. However everything you see written in "alethi" in the books is actually just in coded English; I don't believe an actual alethi language has been made. So if by "alethi writing" you mean "the Stormlight Archive actually translated into alethi", nope.

I figured there wouldnt be a whole new language to learn just for his books. Might be pretty neat though Edited September 28, 2015 by Arkangel_for_Orcas
