Can we schedule that?” The person asks. Likely an Epic. No non-Epic would walk up to Fish and just request a meeting like that, and ignore Fish's question about who they are. Usually there would be a lot more cowering and stammering. And who’s this Epic’s client? Unless there’s a new faction in the city, Fish could guess that it’s Ignis. Sundew doesn’t send lackeys. If it is Ignis who wants a meeting, it was a huge mistake for the fire Epic to not talk to Fish by himself. Means that Ignis’s weak. Fish would never make that oversight. Let's see who this Epic is, Fish thinks. He crosses his arms. “Who are you.” @TwinSouls ---------------------------------- “Oh, so you parry them. Oh,” Ignis says. The fire Epic sounds pleased that he made a pun on Parry’s name about his power. That isn’t the first time it’s happened. The joke is getting old. Parry shifts his weight to his other foot. “Yeah.” @RoyalBeeMage "so did you want to join me or not? i could use a body guard and you seem perfect for the job."

Aeternum Posted March 18, 2024 Author Posted March 18, 2024 “Indeed,” The Epic says. A person of few words. Doesn’t give Fish much to measure the Epic by. This does mean that Ignis is making moves, Fish realizes. That’s probably not too big of a problem – Fish is pretty sure he would easily beat Ignis in a fight. He’d just prefer to not fight in the middle of his city, however. Honestly, it probably would be best if he saved his strength for Sundew. No point in exerting himself over a useless Epic now. “What does Ignis want?” Fish demands. His arms itched, begging to be loosened on this other Epic who dared talk to him like that. You failure. You know you're weak. You're going to turn around and face him, are ya? He'll know he hit a nerve. A sign of weakness. He stopped and whirled around, arms forming into blades, face contorted with an ugly expression. Who was this...this underling? This peon. That dared to say he would fail. So what now that, after you've exposed yourself? You want to stab him? How cute. What, you think he wouldn't be able to toss you into a building before you laid a finger on him. You loser. No. Calm down. Blades reformed to hands. He took a breath. Calm down. As if. More like shut up and save your own skin. But go ahead, I want to see your rationalization for this one. This was just a lowly servant of Fish. It was laughable that this fool thought he wasn't Fish's lackey, doing his bidding. That he was his own master. Of course, every Epic had to think this way to maintain their sanity in this hierarchical world. Power was everything. Very few reached the level of accolade Swordfish had achieved. Bravo. A great performance. And now for the pièce de résistance. "Your loss Aries. When I find Mesmerize and do something worthwhile, I'll make sure to put a special note in to Fish for you, don't worry I won't forget. I'm sure you'll love your reward for all the help you provided." Swordfish turned and headed into the city, teeth gritted. No more waiting for him to reply, cajoling him to join in. This fool would pay. That's it. Turn and run away and then tattle on him. Who's the real lackey here? @Scars of Hathsin Swordfish walked slowly, his footsteps heavy in the quiet dark of the small alleyway. It had taken a few choices threats and couple blades to the throats of loved ones to get some of the non Epic witnesses to open up about the missing minor illusionist, Mesmerize. The story he'd extracted was a strange one. Apparently Mesmerize had been doing his robbery, as planned, when a couple of assailants started attacking him, shooting at the Epic, something unheard of in the streets of Buffalo. At least, unheard of by him. The battle had gone on for a bit before they'd managed to shoot down Mesmerize. Apparently once they'd managed to bring him down, they'd tied him up and carried him through streets, sticking to the shadows before their trail went cold in the alleyway he was walking down right now. He looked ahead - it was a dead end. There were piles of old world refuse stacked along the sides, a couple of boarded up windows, a few flimsy looking doors and a set of stairs, heavy metal, leading down to a cellar door. Swordfish moved in slowly, his guard up, hands itching to be turned to blades. It was probably another Epic, maybe a small street gang of minor Epics, that wanted to send a message to Fish. Nobodies, just refuse to clean up. If they'd jumped Mesmerize, he'd have to be careful though. But there was something else too. The one thing that the stories all the witnesses he'd "encouraged" to talk had in common was that the assailants only used guns. No powers. That was strange for Epics. Why wouldn't they use their powers? It was an expectation, almost. Something they flaunted, a mark of pride. Yet these individuals hadn't. Perhaps their powers were related to firearms. He'd heard of such cases before, firearm related Epic powers. But there were two assailants. And that was the part that stuck out to him...what were the odds that two Epics would use firearms. Possible, but not high. There was another possibility that tickled his brain. Reckoners. He'd heard the rumors about the Epic hunters, non Epics bold enough to take on their betters. Epics bickered and quarreled amongst each other, even sacrificed their own - but all differences were tossed aside against these lesser creatures that managed to kill gods. The hair on the back of his neck stood up, his arms itching in anticipation. If there were Reckoners here in Buffalo... Still, he had to be careful. Whoever they were, Epic or Reckoner, they'd taken out Mesmerize. He knew Fish thought he was reckless sometimes. His desires...his ambition pushing him towards danger. But he knew his limits. Yes, you coward. You definitely do. He could still be hurt by bullets, though it would take a fair bit to actually kill him. He could be ganged up on. For all his talk, he was small fry in the grand scheme of things. So what if he'd killed droves of non Epics and even helped on teams taking out some minor Epics? He was vulnerable. Even a small gravity epic like Aries could cause him problems. The idea appeals to you doesn't it. The Reckoners. The powerless killing those with power. Your own little power fantasy. Key word - fantasy. A movement in the alleyway broke him from his thoughts. Eyes peeked from behind an old, rusted dumpster. It darted away, but it couldn't match the Epics enhanced endurance. He broke into a sprint and slammed the individual into a wall. A child. An arm turned to a blade, pressed to his throat. But the child's eyes were defiant. Fiery. As if challenging him. This wasn't normal. This was what happened when a child sees an Epic killed. And believes that there are heroes to save him. Unacceptable. Can't even scare a pitiful whelp? Worthless. "Where are they?" Swordfish's voice was calm. The adrenaline pumped through him, his senses feeling honed as the world seeming to slow around him. More oxygen filled his lungs as his cells optimized their metabolic processes. This calm, this rush. This was what he lived for. The child's eyes darted. It might have been involuntary, but a quick movement, down and to the right. Towards the metal stairs, leading down to the cellar door. But for Swordfish, senses honed, it was enough. It might be the kid's parents, for all he knew. But if there was the possibility... "You're coming with me." The child struggled, about to scream, but a hand clamped over his mouth. The kid tried to bite, only to whimper as his teeth struck steel, and his lip was torn, blood rushing down his face. The blade turned to a hand as Swordfish carried the struggling, kicking boy - one hand grasping him by the head, arm clamped over his mouth, the other a blade to his throat. His small body flailing in front of him, protecting his abdomen. You need a hostage? Are you really that scared? He moved down the metal stairs, one at a time, each step clanging with heavy footfalls. Finally, reaching the ground level landing, the door in front of him, he raised a foot, hostage still in his hands, blade to the child's throat... And Swordfish kicked open the door to the Reckoners' hideout. @TheFrugalWizard @Lord Spirit Edited March 20, 2024 by xariori 1

Through the living jeff he/him(straight) Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 (edited) Quote Uhh… I could’ve sworn I’d posted the thing… oops. Phalanx wanders through the streets. He had decided hours ago that he would find his way into that meeting. Whether or not he would tell his employer, Ignis, or not was the real question. Where have the sundews been appearing again? Phalanx thinks. He heads over to an alley where he knows an informant that is- well informed. He walks into the alley where he’d previously stashed his trench coat. He dropped his leather jacket and donned his trench coat. He pulled on a bowler, and stepped out a completely different man. He scurried over, past the alley of the informant from before, and entered a pub. “I would like a Saltstrom.” Phalanx said, adopting the voice of the people of this area. The bartender nodded over at a man sitting alone at a table in a muddy brown cloak. Phalanx walks over to the man, pulls out a chair, and sits down. “I have information.” The man eyes him “Eh? Whaddya wan’?” “I have information,” Phalanx repeats. “I know ya want somethin’.” “I have a proposal: you answer a question of mine and I give you a very valuable piece of information.” The man seemed to think for a little bit, then slowly nodded. “I’ll agree to this if yer do one thing for meh.” “Alright. What’s that?” “Tell me your name.” ”John. Ask around and you’ll learn more.” ”Now you may ask the question.” Phalanx leans in “Where have the Sundews been appearing?” The man laughs “Anyone with half a brain knows that! Surely you’re kidding?” Phalanx looks him in the eye “No.” “Well, that’s a rather stupid question! They’re all on the coast. All along the beach, and they’ve even started creepin’ in!” “Thank you” Phalanx says, getting up “Hey! You promised!” “I lied.” Then, Phalanx leaves, with people shouting behind him. The coast. Why the coast? It seemed obvious. It was the safest seeming place outside of the city, and in general, its people. A hand clamps onto his shoulder not a block past the pub. “You’re gonna regret wha’ yer jus’ did,” A rough voice growls behind him, pressing something sharp into his back. “Oh really?” Phalanx says, taking a deep breath. If he pushes any more, a shield should appear, preventing the blade from piercing his skin. Phalanx would really rather that didn’t happen, because (1.) he wanted to keep his persona of John, the friendly informant, and (2.) trench coats were pretty darn hard to find. He takes a deep breath, and twists, rolling his body towards the flat side of the blade, simultaneously pushing the man away and dashing down the alley where he’d stashed his leather jacket. He quickly drops the hat and trench coat, stashes it behind a bin, and dons the leather jacket. A few moments later, the man who had tried to kill him dashed into the alley, running right into Phalanx. “Move it!” The would-be murderer shouted at Phalanx. “No,” Phalanx says. The man brandishes the knife. “I said, move!” “No,” Phalanx repeats, “I will not move.” Then he makes some shields appear. The man stumbles backwards, going white. “I- I- I’m sorry m- m’lord.” ”You are forgiven. What do you want?” ”Uh… er… there was a man running through here a moment ago and…” ”I have dealt with him. Now go.” The man steps backward, then runs back to the pub. Well, Phalanx thinks, that’s one issue dealt with. Then he heads down towards the beach. He drew in heat from around himself knowing that he would need every ounce of heat he could get if he wanted to confront the epic fish! he made his was towards fish’s bace where he knocked on the door. When it didn’t open immediately he blasted it off the hinges. He stepped inside and drew heat from the surrounding area to replenish his heat. He pointed at someone. Does he really have to deal with this today? There's a loud knock on his office door not long after (he's noticed that very few Epics risk blowing up his personal office door), and Fish turns himself a bit more incorporeal, to the level he usually is at when having to deal with annoying Epics constantly barging into his office. "Come in," he calls, not moving from his chair. Quote We're back! Did a bit of a timeskip since the RP died, so we're ignoring previous stuff that went on. The front door is for intimidation. Roy walked in and pulled out a chair in front of fish’s desk. He slumped down into it. “Hey fish. How are you doing?” Roy used a bit of his heat to make the room uncomfortably warm for fish and smiled. he grabbed a coin from his pocket and stared rolling it down his knuckle while looking intently at fish. He was here for business not pleasure but he could still have some fun in the meantime. 1
TheFrugalWizard he/him Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Andy knew he couldn't take on swordfish on his own. The epic was stronger and better trained than he was with the swords, and swordfish's body was literally made up of blades. Andy wasn't new to the longsword, however. Swordfish attacked with relentless power and precision, and Andy was only able to barely fend him off. He was pushed farther and farther back into the hideout by his adversary's furious blows. As he was slowly cornered, he started to become more and more frustrated. Why couldn't he use his powers? This idiot was nothing compared to him. And the child-- NO! he firmly told himself. Calm down! He had to focus to get this right. Swordfish was cornering him, about to deliver the final blow. But Andy was a reckoner. He was always prepared for an epic. He unholstered his sidearm and fired. Right into swordfish's chest. @xariori 1

Who do they think they are? And then use their powers to try to make him uncomfortable? Fish considers if it's worth damaging his office to be able to kill this annoyance of an Epic. It's a good thing for Ignis that Fish has more patience than usual today. "What do you want." @RoyalBeeMage Quote Sorry for late reply! Feel free to message me or ping me in the other thread if I forget.

"what do you want?" helios aksed quietly from the corner. "shut it!" roy said loudly. he took a deep breath and clamed down. "i am here to discus the presence of the reckoners." 1
