A tear ran down Terrance's cheek, though it could have been mistaken for a drop of the water now dripping from his hair.

"Maybe he became paralyzed somehow? Does anyone in the group know anything about healing?" Elsie asked, determined to help her friend.

He did not answer, or even seem to hear her.

Not knowing what she could do, Elsie just silently panicked. She started phasing in and out of view. She looked towards the other people in the train for help.

Unfortunately, he didn't seem to hear her response.

This was probably Jenny’s fault. She hadn’t done enough to save him. Maybe she’d just made things worse. She could’ve interrupted something by forcing Terrance out of the void. She might’ve broken him, somehow.

She’d hurt him. The inevitable had finally happened. No, she didn’t know that. He could be okay. She might not have messed up. But with each second Terrance was unresponsive, it was becoming clearer that wasn’t the case.

"Elsie?"

"Elsie?"

Terrance speaking again was somewhat reassuring, but it didn’t mean that he was ok. He wasn’t really reacting to what was going on. Elsie was probably right in her guess that he was hallucinating.

”Do you guys think it would be an awful idea if I put Terrance to sleep, then woke him up again?”

Jenny didn’t have much experience with technology, but she knew that turning something off and on again could oftentimes fix whatever was wrong. Her worries wormed their way back, however.

”Never mind. I might just make things worse again.”

"I mean, maybe it will work. Maybe it's like when you turn off a computer, then turn it back on and it works again."

So, my sleep deprived brain just noticed that Elsie essentially repeated what Jenny thought. Whoops. :P

A thought occurred to Jenny. She felt stupid for not remembering it earlier. Ambrosia had worked for Terrance when he’d acted weird like this before!

”Has Terrance had ambrosia today?”

He’d gotten injured earlier, but she wasn’t sure if he had ended up needing any. He probably had, but she wanted to exhaust every possible option before restoring to hypnokinesis.

He has already had some ambrosia and nectar, but Jenny doesn’t know this.

"Ambrosia? Like, the salad thing with the marshmallows?"

“No, magical food that heals you but also makes you combust if you eat too much.”

What the heck was Elsie talking about? It did sound kinda good, though. Anything could make salad better- it wasn’t possible to make it much worse. Jenny pulled out the last bit of ambrosia she had and showed it to Elsie.

“He had some, he can probably have a little more, just not a whole square.”

She blinked. "It... Makes you combust?" She leaned away from it.

Jenny nodded and broke off a small piece. She tried to ignore how worryingly little of her emergency ambrosia was left. She put it in Terrance’s mouth, trying to tilt his head so that he had to swallow it. There wasn’t enough to choke on, thankfully.

“Only if you eat too much. It’s perfectly safe to be around, otherwise.”

Elsie continued to eye it suspiciously. "But it makes people explode?"

“More like overheat. You don’t get blown into pieces. I think.”

Jenny hadn’t seen anyone eat too much ambrosia before. Maybe it did make you explode. That would be cool! She wasn’t allowed near anything capable of starting fires at camp after a string of accidentally using said things to burn objects not intended to be burnt, so she didn’t get to see explosions very often. Imagining that possibility made her briefly forget the awful situation she was in.

She made a face at that.

She will not eat that willingly now.

Also, do you guys know when our characters are gonna get off the train?
