“It’s scary, but there’s nothing we can do about it. Only thing to do now is live our lives to the fullest. And who are you?”

"An envoy, of sorts." His voice was smooth and quiet.

Owen blushed even deeper. She's actually good at this. She's royalty, she can dance, she's formal and not awkward, and GOODNESS she is gorgeous. Maybe I should just... leave? She's too good for me... "I'm sorry..." He says again.

“You have nothing to be sorry for! And if you wish to become more skilled at dancing…perhaps I can tutor you?” Aubrey blushed despite the fact that the offer was completely non-romantic and would only involve dance lessons. It certainly was annoying to have such warm ears, visible to everyone, though.

Dancing lessons? I guess... is she asking me to court her? Is that this? Or... no, it would be completely non romantic. Yes.

"Uh... yes." Owen said, "Tutoring would be much appreciated." He blushed. Did he sound terse? Rude? He hoped not.

“I’m very glad. I can give you my address after this dance. I am so happy just to dance with you.”

Can he also be a lord of dubious origin?

"Of course!" Owen says. Wait. Does she... like me? His body tingled, and his face reddened more. "It is wonderful." He said.

A young person watched the party from the outside. How luxurious they all were. She sighed. It was not fun being in poverty. She melted back into the shadows.

Similar to Pending, of course.

Although he'll probably be Lord Miros instead.

"It certainly is." Wait. Does he… like me? This was a curious turn of events. How had Aubrey gotten this Scottish Prince to fall in love with her, who had been sheltered to live essentially alone for all of her life before now.

Owen was confused. A beautiful, smart Princess loved him? Him, who wasn't smart, couldn't dance, was unattractive... this was a turn of events.

"Clem!" A raspy female voice yells from outside the room.

I quickly close my handbag and turn around at the sound of the bronze doorknob turning.

"Time to go." My aunt grabs me by my wrist and her pale hand grips me tightly. I follow a step behind her, straightening the edge of my itchy dress with my other hand. I walk out into the main room. The golden chandelier hangs above us, I stare at it, looking directly up.

Pretty...

I quickly realize we've come to a halt as I bump into the backside of my aunt, I look over at her as she lets go of my wrist and swats at me. I yelp quietly and take a step to my left.

"Mister Ashcroft, sir." She does a little curtsy and I do the same, looking up at the tall man in a black and white suit. I stare at him for a moment before he meets my eyes.

"And you are?" He seems half-heartedly amused with me.

"Formerly Clementine Ellington, sir." My voice comes out as a low quiet whisper. He doesn't seem to pay attention to that, he simply turns to the woman.

"And this is my daughter?" My aunt nods.

"Yes, and you'll be taking her at once. I can not deal with this woman in my home anymore! She is of no use to me!" She pushes me forwards slightly, I just look down and hold tightly to my handbag.

He leans down to my height, placing his thumb beneath my chin and pulling my face up.

"Are you really the daughter of Charlotte?" He looks me in my eyes.

"Yes sir..." I mumble quietly. My mother died a year ago, she was a former servant to my father and his family. Since then I've been living with my aunts.

"She brings shame upon our family! She was born out of wed-lock. Her hands are calloused and she is so frail and pale.” She pokes at my side. “She hardly packs anything in that little behind of hers.” She swats at my behind and I step to the side.  "Stupid little girl can't even bring in a husband to help support the house."

My father holds up his white gloved hand to her, signaling for her to stop speaking.

"She doesn't have a husband?" He looks over at my aunt questioningly.

"No sir. That little disgrace is of no use to me." He snaps his head at her.

"And what makes you think I want her?" I lower my head, turning away. Tears glitter on the edge of my eyes.

"I don't think you want her, I don't want her, nobody wants her." They all go silent for a moment before my father speaks up.

"How likely is it for her to be courted?" Before he even finishes his sentence she interrupts him.

"Sir, there is no way you're daughter will be finding any husband, not now, not ever." He straightens up, brushing his hand on his slick pants. A singel tear drop drips from my eye and hits the floor.

"Is that a challenge...Miss Wilde." She glares at him for a moment, opening her mouth to speak but never has the chance.

"I mean, you got courted... surely it can't possibly be that hard." He snarls at her, placing his hand on my shoulder.

"Mister Ashcroft, are you insul-" She gets cut off by his swift turn.

"I'll be going ma'am. And I'll be taking my daughter with me." He grabs my hand and drags me behind him.

The door slams behind us and off we go.

Okay. I'll have one main character, the one from before, then this will be a side character.

A Canadian Princess strolled into the room.

As the music ended, Aubrey walked back to the table that was where Owen had been sitting. She wrote down her address on a piece of paper and handed it to Owen. “I live here,” she said. “You can come by anytime and I can teach you to dance.” As she sat down, she saw Sir Nahn Plaijer Karaktér leave the ball with a posture that indicated sadness. “Does anybody know why he left?” she asked.

It was at this moment, that the doors to the ballroom opened and announced the arrival of Lord Miros.

"My dear friends! I am Lord Miros!" He exclaimed, "I come from the hometown of the king himself, and have come to save you all."

Assorted whispers of various things flooded throughout the ballroom.

"That's right. Because you, yes you, all of you, are in grave danger. And I have been instructed by the king to save you all. And that starts by ending this ball. We have not the time for romance and soliciting and politics! We have a world to save!"

“Alright then…I’m going to get some fresh air.” Seth moved away from the man, out through the front doors. He saw something slink into the shadows. He slid over, looking closer.

@Canada Lover

The girl noticed him, sliding away from him.

“BOOOOOOOOOOO!” Aubrey yells before putting her hand to her mouth. “Erm, maybe I shouldn’t have done that.”
