On a side note, a Nahel bond does increase the influence you can get elsewhere, but that's a side note.

Dying should in theory mean something, but that doesn't mean you can't do nothing. But attempting to mess in the physical realm won't work. I might suggest possessing a beast, or something like that if the gamemakers agree.

There are shelters- 2 of them are unclaimed. Claiming them requires killing a tribute. Check the post metrics for the most recent map, it shows the unclaimed shelters there.
