She shook her head.

He nodded. “All right.”

"Okay."

Lerac spoke up from where he was sitting. "TAAron, you're nervous about using your powers? Is something wrong with them?"

TAAron hesitated. "I don't know if something's wrong with them. But when I access them, I feel a sort of... pressure. I don't understand it, but it worries me."

In response, Lerac reached out and touched TAAron's arm. TAAron felt a rush of healing warmth, as was typical with Lerac. Nothing seemed to happen, though. Lerac just frowned, as though concerned by something.

Aora led them directly to as many people as they could find.

"That's . . . probably good for now," she said after they'd accumulated 30-ish people.

He nodded. “Tell them all to fall backward.”

“What?? Is he okay???”

"Well, there's nothing to heal. Though I recall that his magic resists external influence."

“Hmm.”

". . . No, you tell them . . . it's your hiding spot."

He told them.

Most of them just stared at him.

“No, I’m serious!” He did it, and then came back up. “Trust me!”

They eventually all did it, though some needed a little help.

"He does have a different feel to him than most... people." Lerac sounded like he was about to say a different word than "people," though TAAron could not imagine what.

“So what do we do?”

“Yeah. Wanna try it?”

Lerac meet her eyes, and there was a definite grim sadness in his expression. "I don't know. I would avoid having TAAron use his powers, but it probably doesn't matter."

"No- no! It's fine! Um . . . I can do it myself."

He held up his hands. “All right. Go ahead.”

She looked over at TAAron. “That… doesn’t sound good.”

TAAron struggled to understand what Lerac's words could mean. "What aren't you saying?"

Lerac sighed. "I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. It's... TAAron isn't in danger. You don't need to worry about that."

She nodded, stepping up to the hole.

You can do this- you can do this, she told herself.

It just . . . seemed like she was going to fall into an empty abyss, was all.

She took a deep breath and stepped on the rim, then tipped herself over the edge-

-and stepped perfectly onto the other side.

Well, almost.

She did trip over her own feet a little, but at least she was fine . . .

She was in a dark hallway. A golden glowing circle of light shone on the floor beneath her feet, shifting with her steps. The walls were lined with doors of various colors, designs, and shapes, and tiny blue glowing motes floated in the air above her head.

A new circle appeared as Vey stepped down as well. “You didn’t even trip! Nice. The lounge is this way.” He walked down the hallway.

Lerac didn't respond for an extended moment. "Maybe nothing. I don't want to bother you with a worst case scenario. Even if it does happen, it might not be that bad."

Whoa . . .

". . . What is this place?" she breathed softly.

“Evalyn Basilica called it the Belowplace. I prefer to call them the Glowing Hallways, unwieldy as that is.”

His nightingale hopped off his shoulder into the air and snapped at the little blue firefly lights. They parted so she could fly through them.
