Lerac went visibly tense. "Aventine, you should go, I-" He inhaled sharply.

Aventine felt the wave of his strange aura again, much stronger this time. It felt like the warmth she felt when he healed her and the cold she had felt from the dagger, both at once, clashing, disorienting, nauseating.

So disorienting and nauseating, in fact, that she didn’t have the strength to move.

After a long moment, it abruptly cut off. Lerac crumpled, tears streaming from his eyes again.

"Peaceably executing justice after violence has been initiated? After this debacle is over, could you teach me your ways? This thing is almost impossible in my homeland. If I could bring it back there, wars could be prevented."

“Well, first you need to completely and utterly outmatch the people; being able to turn their weapons against them qualifies. Next, you need an ulterior motive for leaving your opponents alive, and finally, you need to lack the ability to actually kill your opponents in an efficient manner unless they attack you first. Usually, I have a sling and sharpened darts in order to attack. And anyway, I need these two alive so I can find and kill their leader. After all, there’s nothing they could do to stop me…” Suddenly, he convulses, then stops, breathing heavily. “Oh no. We need to get these people imprisoned fast. Then I need somewhere to go where I won’t hurt anyone.”

Aventine, from where she lied on the floor, began to breathe more steadily, and slowly burned brass for him.

Lerac felt his emotions get Soothed away. "Thanks... Are you okay?"

Aora sighed. She didn't know what to do right now.

She got up from the beanbag and walked over to the door. She wanted to explore a bit, but . . . she didn't know if those men were still out there. She quietly opened the door and peaked out.

@SpiritOfWrath

I should go check on her, Trevor thought.

A hawk sat outside her door.

“I think so.”

“It’s okay. And you can let your emotions out.” She eased off her Soothing.

He cringed as it all flooded back, and tears returned. "I... I can't. You already have too much happening. I can deal with it on my own." He said the words with the conviction of a trained answer.

“Lerac, it’s okay, really.” She burned just a little brass.

He looked down. "I really can't explain this to you. Even if I could, I wouldn't. It's too much. Far too much."

The harshest thing Death ever did to him was right at the start when Lerac agreed to be his avatar. Death gave him a glimpse of the true grief for the loss of all things, to prepare him and make a point about what it means to be Death. The funeral made him think of it, which is why he broke down the first time.

She pushed herself up to a sitting position. “You could try.”

"You should focus on the things you're dealing with. You don't need anything else to add to that pile. I'm certainly not helping with it."

The two men were silent, watching him. Par had fallen unconscious again. Charlie spoke. “You aren’t like no werewolf or something?”
