Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) Quote *pokes head in* Hey there So. I wanted to start another RP (because my other ones crashed and burned) (which was probably my fault) but I had no idea what I wanted it to be about. Then, I realized that two of the most successful RPs on the Shard -- FotT and Insanity Clinic -- didn't start out with a fully-formed vision of what their worlds looked like. By leaving things open to interpretation, the RPers got to craft a world they were invested in. In contrast, many of the RPs people started with a fleshed-out premise in mind didn't last. This RP can be whatever we make it to be. It can be serious or silly; sci-fi or fantasy or both or neither; it can have hard worldbuilding or soft worldbuilding -- whatever. Just to be clear, this is not me trying to mechanically engineer a huge RP. I'm not expecting this to grow to FotT or IC size. In fact, it's probably gonna crash and burn. But I think it'll be a fun experiment. I'll start: Allera loved the storm. Rain cascaded from the heavens, relentlessly crashing against the soil, sending chunks of sod flying feet into the air. Lightning lit up the sky, setting fire to a nearby tree for an instant before it was snuffed out by the downpour. Thunder boomed, momentarily deafening Allera as they soared up towards the sky, wings flapping on the breeze. Edited May 26, 2023 by Szeth_Pancakes
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 What... in the... worlds... Ayia found herself skating alongside the... bird person. "Hello? Hi? Um... hello?"
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 26, 2023 Author Posted May 26, 2023 Allera started, then turned around and began flying quickly away from the person. Hells! What sane non-Winged would go out in this kind of storm?
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 "Hey! Wait!" Ayia seemed to be... almost gliding upon some unknown surface. In the chaos of the storm it was hard even for her to make out. "Are you okay?"
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Quote I want to be me again because that's what I do in RP's like this... But is it a good idea... Is it not... I'll just be a stardragon what the heck. Astwyr soared above the storm, the light of the stars warming his soul. He basked in it, those glimpses of distant worlds... A rumble of thunder brought his attention back to the storm below him. It held a different beauty to the distant mystery of the stars; a violent, unpredictable danger, and yet a calm steadiness at the same time, when one could see the whole. Chaos coming together to form order. Everything followed a pattern. He smiled. This world was one of the beautiful ones. Astwyr was yanked from his thoughts as he noticed two figures flying inside the storm below. One of them was obviously one of the Winged. He couldn't discern the nature of the other one. What in the worlds...? Astwyr folded his huge wings closer to his narrow black-scaled frame, which was speckled with silver scales the color of stars. He dove into the storm towards the other figures.
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Quote Wait no. We can't have THREE A NAMES
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 26, 2023 Author Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) Hells! Burning hells! Why was a stardragon here? This forest - Five Gales, this whole planet shouldn't have been important enough for the skydragons to care about, much less visit. That was why Allera had come here! They flew faster than they had in their life, weaving between trees, trying to lose the dragon in the storm. Quote Edit: alliteration mwahahahaha Edited May 26, 2023 by Szeth_Pancakes
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) Astwyr blinked as he watched the Winged dart off into the storm, into the forest that was being pummelled below. ...Huh. That's...weird. He pulled out of his dive and climbed again, following at a distance. His interest was piqued now; he wasn't about to let this mysterious person leave. At least for a little. Quote Haha YES IT BECAME AN INTERPLANETARY FANTASY STORY Edited May 26, 2023 by The Bookwyrm

Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 26, 2023 Author Posted May 26, 2023 (edited) "Why are you out here?" Allera yelled back at the crazy person. Quote They mean Ayia. Edited May 26, 2023 by Szeth_Pancakes
xinoehp512 he/him Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Jaster squinted up at the sky. No... Surely it couldn't be. He ran inside, sprinting past scattered piles of paper and haphazardly strewn flasks to the wooden door at the other side of the study. He threw it open and dashed up the stairs behind it, taking them three at a time. At the top was an enormous telescope pointed upwards into the sky. He grabbed a nearby crank and began to turn, rotating the device to point in the direction he was interested in. He dashed over to the scope and peered through. "At last," he breathed. A Stardragon.

Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 27, 2023 Author Posted May 27, 2023 Just now, Channelknight Fadran said: "I DON'T KNOW." "What in the Fi- what in the Hells does that mean?"
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Ayia managed to catch up and fall into pace with the bird person. "Hi. I'm Ayia. Where am I?"
Szeth Pancakes he/they Posted May 27, 2023 Author Posted May 27, 2023 "Where..." Allera looked around. They didn't see the dragon anymore, but that meant it could be anywhere (which was arguably more terrifying). "You're... in the Kcheli Forest. Where did you think you were?" Their comment was punctuated by a bolt of lightning; striking the ground not too far from the two of them.
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Astwyr continued to drift above the storm, watching the two figures below. He was suddenly seized by the strange feeling of being watched. It was unsettling. He craned his long neck around, scanning the ground. Where... He noticed a small building with a large telescope built into the top. It was pointed directly at him. More and more interesting things keep happening today...he thought to himself. How am I ever going to keep track of it all...?
xinoehp512 he/him Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Jaster dashed over to the copper tubes on the other side of the tower. Hands trembling, he extracted a paper tube from the cabinet below and loaded it carefully into a tube. He pulled a dash of powder from the pouch at his side and snapped. A spark flew from his fingers and landed on the paper tube. With a hiss, it shot into the air, smoke trailing behind it. "Please work please work please work," he muttered as his eyes tracked its path. "Please-" Abruptly it exploded in a shower of blue and silver sparks. He let out a sigh of relief. The firework had worked.
The Bookwyrm he/him Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Astwyr watched as the blue and silver sparks glittered and faded as they fell to the ground. Was that supposed to mean something? I really should have studied the local cultures more before I visited. Astwyr turned for one last moment towards the two storm-shrouded figures, which were quickly gaining distance. Then he decided to leave them behind. Alignment willing, I'll find them later. Astwyr flew towards the mysterious building, and the source of the firework.

Yes: there was no mistake; the Stardragon was approaching. Unable to contain his excitement, he stuck his head out the window and began shouting enthusiastically into the storm. "Here! I'm right here!"

If she was really one of them, she likely would be acting more... dignified. Ayia just seemed confused. "We're on Akcali. Eldriad system." Quote Ayia probably hasn't heard of it.
Channelknight Fadran Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Ayia hadn't heard of it. "And, uh..." On second thought, bringing up the multiverse seemed like a bad idea. "In general, is this place, like... cool?"
