Who is the most Invested non-Shard character in the Cosmere?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking about who the most Invested character in the Cosmere might be. Susebron is very Invested, and Rashek is a sliver. The Stormfather is also very invested, but probably not as much as Rysn. Rysn might currently be more invested than Hoid, but Hoid also held a Dawnshard at some point, so maybe they would have been about equal.

The dragons are probably also very invested, since Xisis is was shown to have acces to Nalthis magic.

What do you think? Who’s the most Invested?

Candidates: Susebron and Rysn among humans, Stormfather among spren, Nightblood is its own category.

But Rysn is more invested than Susebron, both Stormfather and Nightblood too, so it's the competition between those three. I would say Stormfather, because he holds the biggest remnants of Honor, which puts him halfway to becoming a Shard.

Hoid held Dawnshard in the past, but not now, that makes him less invested than Rysn and Susebron.

Who is more invested, Susebron or Nomad?

Brandon Sanderson

Nomad- uhhhh. Oh oh, that's a hard one. Nomad was, but is no longer. So Susebron. I was gonna say Nomad, but he doesn't have the Dawnshard anymore. So not anymore, Susebron would be more invested than he would be at this point. But Nomad can feed upon Investiture, so he could overtake that threshold in the right circumstances. But not currently. Currently he can't even get himself Connected to the planet to speak the language, so.

Questioner

You've previously said that Nightblood is the most powerful non-Shardic being in the Cosmere. Is he more powerful than the Unmade or Stormfather in terms of raw Investiture?

Brandon Sanderson

Raw Investiture? Here's the thing, when you say powerful, it can mean lots of different things. More raw Investiture than the Stormfather... probably not. Than the Unmade, probably. I would have to look, I don't have the numbers on this. But the Stormfather is very restricted in what he can do.

Orem Signing (March 16, 2019)

Between Rysn and Stormfather, I say Stormfather is more invested, because of Honor's pieces, but that's because we don't know how much invested Dawnshards are. Both of them can rightfully be claimed to be the most invested entities in Cosmere (without Shards).

Spoiler

At the bottom left of a post you will see a "+" icon, a "Quote" link, and (your posts only) and Edit link. On the bottom right you will see an up arrow.

  • The Up Arrow is how you thank people or "like" a post
  • The "Quote" link is exactly that, when you click it the quote will be added to the reply at the bottom of the thread wherever the cursor is
    • So, if you have already started to reply before you decide to quote you can then add the quote before or after your text depending on the cursor location when you click "Quote"
  • The + icon is multi-quote. As you read a thread, if you want to quote multiple items you click that for each post
    • As you click +, you should see a toaster pop-up on the bottom right of the browser window showing how many quotes you will have
    • They are added in the order you click the + icon, not in the original post order, so you can set the order of quotes for your reply
    • When you are ready to reply, click on the toaster pop-up and it will take you directly to the reply section and add the quotes automatically
  • Finally, you can also highlight a small section of a post and, when hovering over the highlit portion, click the "Quote" button that pops up.
  • Also note that you can move quotes after they have been added to your reply.
    • For example, you add a quote and realize there are no empty lines below it for you to type - so you can hit "enter" before the quote to make an empty line then when you hover over a quote you will see a 4-way arrow at the top-left that you can use to drag the quote up (or down)  and move the quote to before the empty line. . .
  • Use the Edit link to make changes to a completed post or add information to your post if it is the most recent (to avoid double posting)
    • Quote buttons will still send a quote to "Reply" if you have a post open for edit, but it is easy to cut/paste the quote to the Edit box
    • Editing allows you to add a reason for the edit (Spelling and grammar (SPAG), formatting, clarification, new information, etc.), but it is not required.
  • Next to Edit you will also find an "options" dropbox, you can use this to hide your post if you want to remove it after posting
  • At the top of a post you will find "Report Post"
    • Use this if you do accidentally double-post (sometimes it's the browser or a slow link that causes a double post) - just leave a message that it was an accidental double post and the Mods can fix it. If it was the first post of a new thread that doubled, they usually can merge the threads if they both have answers, so all of the content is retained.

Hope that helps.

One more category of contender, I think:  [TotES Spoiler]

Spoiler

The Primal Aethers.

Well, also TLM spoilers. Very good point, you're right. They could rival Stormfather/Rysn. They themselves claim to be co-equal to Adonalsium, and it might be true that they could be the most invested:

Is Adonalsium a unique being or are—were—there others?

RAFO! The aethers would say that there were lots. That there's like a bunch of aethers and Adonalsium. That they were co-equals. The aethers would say there were lots of them.

Yeah, I think as written, the Primal Aethers like Silajana.

If we exclude them as "Shard equivalents" then it's probably either the Stormfather or a major Avatar (Patji?).

If those are also outside the spirit of the question, and we're really looking for "most Invested person who primarily exists in the Physical Realm", then I'd say it's a Dawnshard - "currently" Rysn, but Hoid was probably more Invested when he held one (Rysn specifically doesn't have anything else, and Hoid was at least already a Lightweaver).
