Channelknight Fadran Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 "I suppose some information on this world might be helpful for you all..." Kris began tapping the table again. "The government is quite authoritarian, even though it's electoral and merit-based. Due to the volatile nature of such commonplace plants, this is really the most efficient social contract for the world. You need permits for anything and everything here: collecting plants, growing plants, harvesting plants, owning plants. The rarer and more powerful the plant is, the harder it is to get to it. It took me a year and a half of building social credit and screening processes to get my hands on this pass here."

"I was wondering why people weren't revolting in the streets over the government confiscation. I guess that answers that." 21 hours ago, Channelknight Fadran said: "That's literally what the top of the mountain is for. This..." Kris began growing more and more impatient. "This is a single-use pass. It doesn't give us infinite... it..." "We could take some seeds and grow them on a mountain in a different world, though, right?" Silver looked thoughtful. "Seems like it could be useful in a lot of situations, being able to look into the past..." Edited January 23, 2023 by xinoehp512

Channelknight Fadran Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 "We don't have the resources to cosmically expand across this universe, and any others don't have the same form of magic required to have these plants produce Vange properly. Besides; this mission isn't about growing more Moonsuckle. What we get from this one expedition should be more than enough."

Replicating this world's magic system in another world would pose an intriguing challenge, but it was one he could worry about at a later date. "So," he asked. "What's the catch? It can't be as easy as just waltzing up the mountain and grabbing the Moonsuckle, surely?"
Channelknight Fadran Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 "Again, the climb can be somewhat treacherous for the inexperienced. Annual casualties are low, of course, but injuries and failed expeditions are common. That said, I suppose the catch is that it will take a significant amount of preparation and no small amount of caution."

Channelknight Fadran Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 "Climbing mishaps. Spell failure. You hear stories about mountain lions, but I'd be less worried about them than spraining your ankle or forgetting a component."

Channelknight Fadran Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 "Of sorts, yes. They're somewhat situational."
Channelknight Fadran Posted January 23, 2023 Author Posted January 23, 2023 Kris procured the Macrosmos's most efficient form of list maintenance: a note card. "This is a list of supplies we'll need to ensure a safe climb," he explained, setting it down on the table. A few of the items had been crossed off already. "The rest of them have been ordered and should be at the general store soon. From there we just need the right plants." He brought out a second card - this one written on both sides - and handed it to the others.

Quote I think I asked this earlier but I don't know if you answered, is there anything that Tacien could theoretically draw that would be helpful or interesting? "And what are these?" Cufre asked, examining his note card.
Channelknight Fadran Posted January 24, 2023 Author Posted January 24, 2023 Quote I guess he could sketch out the spell circles maybe - 'maybe' because I haven't decided if the circles are just circles or require notation.

"The plants we need. I listed them in order of importance. At the top there are Tagates Marigold, which is the primary component for functional teleportation. You can chain them together using Foxgloves to create a sort of spatial-warp line. Just lots of short teleporters that we can use in various safe spots up the mountain."

Tacien walked up, handing Kris a drawing of the Tagates Marigold, that he had been working on even before Kris handed out the cards.
Channelknight Fadran Posted January 24, 2023 Author Posted January 24, 2023 Kris took the drawing and smiled. "This is quite good. Very detailed."
