"AAAAAAAAAAAAAOof!"

If anybody had been there, they would have noticed that something could be clearly seen clinging to a branch of some tree.

"...trouble this time! Why can't you be SENSIBLE once in a while? Eej, are you listening to me?"

"Holy gosh hecking heck!" Vance scrambled out of the foliage and ran towards... wherever the screaming had come from. "Hello? Anyone? Are you okay???"

Not me double-posting

Personally I love me a good power gap for characters, but given that this is a first-ever RP for a lot of people (and an easing into others for everyone else) I'd stick to some balancing for the time being.

“I’m Kealie. Nice to meet you. Where do you come from?”

Be back on tomorrow evening

"You probably wouldn't know where I'm from, its very distant." Quest began to fiddle with his staff at the question.

From the distance a deep roar sounded, pulsing through the forest. The trees around the duo shook, leaving falling to the ground. The floating red lights that were barely visible before began to pulse bright crimson.

"That can't be good" Quest said.

Fadran what's the timeline on our entrances? Because I've already been talking to Haly for a minute. Would it be ok if you ran in now?

Also Haly is that an ok inciting incident? I felt like we need to get things moving and I liked you idea with the red floating lights.

That sounds cool! I'm okay with that as long as he was originally from the planet. I would also be interested in knowing what the artifacts were.

Annamus walks through the forest, listening to the creatures of the forest. His armor rests a familiar weight on his shoulder, covering him, yet a piece of him.

Absentmindedly crunching on a Coriont, the forest wind breathes a smell on Annamus, a scent of men, sweat, and metal. Annamus freezes, memories flashing through his mind, memories of a night where his home burned, of being shoved quickly out of the treetops by his parents, scrambling away armor having saved him, blending in with the forest floor. Never again, never, observe I must observe. Of course you must. Annamus follows the scent and the vibrations from the metal.

Terakor ran the rod across the ground, totally focused on the task at hand. Or, well, at feet in this case.

He did not notice the hulking figure behind the girth of the trees, even as he approached.

Lyras stood at the deck of the ship, watching the sun rise.

The salty sea air filled his nostrils, and a faint spray from the moving ship misted his face. The morning was chilly, but his blue traveling robes and cloak served to keep him warm.

"We'll be arriving in less than an hour," Captain Trekov said as he walked up next to Lyras. He was human, and wore a simple sailor's outfit indistinguishable from his crew's; the only distinctive feature was a purple sash tied across his shoulder. Many of the people Lyras had met since he left Asteri had been wary of him: His distinctive dark blue skin with it's speckled white pinpricks and his glowing eyes had drawn attention to him. Stellasti didn't travel often, so when they did, it caused a stir.

Trekov and his crew had treated him kindly, and while Lyras occasionally caught them staring at him, he didn't mind. They weren't rude; simply curious, and he had been happy to answer their multitude of questions.

Lyras smiled and nodded. "Thank you, captain. Your hospitality and kindness has been greatly appreciated."

Trekov grunted, but Lyras could see a hint of a smile cross his gruff bearded face. "Of course. You're a paying passenger! We wouldn't treat you any different."

Lyras smiled again. "Even so, you have my thanks."

Trekov smiled a little more fully then.

"You should probably go gather your things," he said. "We're stopping in the port town of Cavelin, where you'll take a road north to Alverton, the biggest city on this island. If you want to head to Orteo, you'll need to book another ship's passage."

Lyras nodded.

"Oh, and watch out for thieves. They're common on the docs, and what with your valuable traveling equipment, you'll seem ripe for the picking. Watch yourself."

Lyras smiled and expressed his thanks once again, then went to his room below decks to gather his pack and equipment.

He'd soon land in the Orteo Chain. And he could hardly wait to see what he would find next.

A figure clad in robes and a peculiar cone-shaped hat stood nearby the docks. He was talking in an animated voice to a pair of travellers, who looked like they wished they were anywhere else right now.

Terakor looked up. And up. And up.

"Tall, aren't they?" remarked his compatriot, his armor jingling as he rode up besides Terakor. "Hard to believe they aren't magical."

"What?" Terakor twisted in the saddle to face Anikel, trying to tell if his friend was joking. "Surely there has to be some magic involved. Trees don't get that tall."

"These ones do." The silver-clad knight slipped off his horse and laid a hand on one of the massive trunks. "Takes them centuries to do it. Shame, really, that we're cuttin' em down."

Terakor furrowed his brow, looking upwards once more. "What, all of them? Surely just one of these would be enough to supply Pietmed for a year!"

Anikel laughed uproariously. "Not even close, felo. Not even close." Still chuckling, he began to pull long metal rods out of his saddlebag. "But we aren't chopping em for the wood. We're chopping em for what's underneath them."  He laid one rod, made of iron, against the ground. After a moment, it began to vibrate slightly. "See? That means there's iron here. Not much, and" -  he bent down until his ear was almost touching the rod - "not very close to the surface, either. But there will be other veins, including one of a... particularly valuable material." His fingers brushed over rods of gold and silver, coming to rest on a pair of reddish-tinted metal cylinders. He pulled them out, handing one to Terakor. "Here. Start searching."

Quendi observed her 'companions' quietly. They'd been kind enough to let her tag along and get some research in. For most of the ride she'd been scribbling down notes about the trees, but now they were searching for metals? With some form of enchanted rods. She hadn't seen anything quite like them yet.

"What enchantments did you use to give those rods such properties?" She asked.

Insanity, I noticed that your character seemed designed like you wanted her to run into mine at some point, and Haly has made one in the same place as me. Both of you can add yourselves to this plotline whenever it suits you.

Lyras stepped onto the dock and immediately drew looks. His night-sky skin and glowing eyes seemed to draw just as much attention as his deep blue robes and cloak and his ornately carved staff. He had specifically dressed and packed in a way that downplayed just how much money he had, but...

Some of these people definitely weren't staring at him just because of his race.

Lyras walked across the dock, his staff making the steady thump of wood on wood as he used it to prop him up. He probably didn't need it here, but there were definitely roads in the world where it would come in handy. And he hoped to travel those roads in the future.

As Lyras walked away from the docs and towards the main street, he noticed a man in a curious outfit talking to a pair of human travelers. They seemed to be making excuses to leave, and Lyras could tell that the man would probably want someone new to talk to. And Lyras did not want to be that person. Not now, at least.

He hurried his pace as he left the docks and began to turn on the paved cobblestone street that ran alongside them.

Annamus stands behind the figure with the rod on the ground and he raises his club. Can I really do this?

Yes you can.

I've never killed anything other than some animals.

You killed that one human.

Annamus flinches from the sting of the comment. I'm not going to kill anyone this time.

Noticing that the figure on the ground is turning around, Annamus speaks one word, "LEAVE." And it reverberates from his armor, coming out much deeper and menacing then he had intended.

"What?" He looked very (understandably) confused. "That roar from earlier? That's a dorgrin. No, I don't speak it. Who was screaming? Are you okay?"

Quest began to pull his staff close, unconsciously backing away from the roar.

"Oh that bad" he paused, looking at the (understandably confused and) short man who had ran out of the bushes.

"That's bad, right? We should run? We should run."

The red lights began to pulse brighter, swirling together, beginning to form a shape. As Quest looked behind him he saw that the crimson lights filled the forest, all of them pulling together into...something.

Quest sighed, summoning a orb of fire on top of his staff. Of course it had to be a fight. He should have just stayed eating those berries.

Nayka stopped in her tracks. No ships leaving. No rescue for her. She let out a derisive laugh, frantically searching for somewhere to hide. Anywhere to hide. She scanned the crowd, looking for anyone who might help her, and noticed a man… uh, person… no, being… who had skin like the sky and odd clothing. From out of town. Maybe she could work with that…

“Excuse me, sir, are you from out of town? I mean… are you maybe leaving soon? On a big ship, maybe?”

“Excuse me, sir, are you from out of town? I mean… are you maybe leaving soon? On a big ship, maybe?” She asked.

Lyras hesitated. "Ah...no. I mean, yes, I am from out of town, but I just arrived." He pointed to the ship he had arrived on, a fair sized three masted cargo ship with white sails and simple features. "Sorry."

Lyras turned and out of the corner of his eye saw a woman run right into a flagpole. His eyes widened.

Not sure what that was about...

Increasingly baffled, Lyras turned back towards the young woman who had asked him about a ship.

Nayka bit her lip as three familiar people turned the corner and started scanning the street. Perfect, perfect, perfect. Aaaaand I’m dead. Frantically, she ducked  between two buildings, but there was nowhere to hide. She glanced out of the alleyway and met the eyes of the sky-skinned man. She retreated. Wonderfyl. Just one more person who can help them.

Its over now. This time I’ve done it.

Two women and one man—all human as far as it could be seen—spread out, asking if anyone had seen a girl with short brown hair and dark black eyes pass this way.

Lyras blinked as the young woman darted away and into an alleyway. She briefly turned and met his eyes, then vanished.

That was....random.

Lyras turned to go find the road north, or perhaps a wagon to bring him part of the way, but was almost immediately stopped by a human man.

"Have you seen a young woman run through here? Short brown hair, dark black eyes?" he asked.

Lyras blinked. He had just seen someone matching the description.

Suddenly the girl's urgency made much more sense.

Lyras didn't want to lie, but his instincts told him that he should probably not tell this man anything.

"I did see her," Lyras said after a short pause, "but I don't know where she went. I'm sorry." It was a partial truth. Once she had vanished into the alley, she could have gone anywhere.

The man nodded and walked off with a brisk pace.

Lyras stood there for a moment. Then he continued into the city.

I suppose we'll meet again, if the Stars will it...

Quest stared at the spinning red lights that were gathering into a monster. What had started out at a group of lights has grown more substantial, more real. It was stretching, limbs beginning to grow out of the main body. It looked canine in nature, it looked hungry.

"You have swords right? Go stab it or something!"

"Knives are vaguely swords" Quest said, "But are we really arguing about the classification of weapons when we about to be attacked?"

"We're not about to get attacked. It's currently watching us. It'll attack when it finishes weighing the amount of energy is has to put in versus the amount it'll get by eating us." Vance fell into a stance regardless. "Or so my crazy sister tells me. Bunny lady! Do you have weapons or magic or something?"
